It's ironic, I've spent the last nine years volunteering for an organization whose main goal is to make sure as many racing greyhounds as possible DON'T wind up in body bags, and can honestly say it's been an amazing and rewarding experience, one which I can't even begin to put into words.

And another thing, about 4 a.m. this morning my greyhound woke me up. Most people would be upset if their dog woke them up that early. But when I realized why he woke me up, I was STOKED!!! Overnight we had gotten about 6 inches of fresh, powdery lake-effect snow in my backyard and my greyhound was just chomping at the bit to go run through it.

I don't know if anyone here has ever seen a greyhound run through fresh, powdery snow, but in all my 40 years, it's easily one of the most beautiful, awe-inspiring things I've ever seen. So graceful. It's like the hand of God was gliding him through the snow.

Oh well, back to the dog-bashing...

Dogs are great! nothing like coming home to a face waiting for you at the door.. all that they ask is for food, water, & a pat on the belly..

oh well..

i have to laugh about the whole "reckneck/blueneck " issue.. it takes me back to the time when I went to see my relatives in SC (just outside Charleston).. I can remember lmy sister & I looking at each other everytime we heard "yes ma'am, no ma'am".. ahh.. the memories of the pig roast

So I've lived in both the North and the South and have owned both cats and dogs...so what does that make me???

For what it's worth...

...I like the North a teeny bit better and like dogs WAY better than cats.

Lexbur........HUGE PROPS to you my friend, for doing such a noble duty!
I saw a special on TV last year....one of those "undercover" shows, that showed what happens to these racing greyhounds and it was one of the saddest things I have ever seen. These "hit men" are paid a few bucks to come pick up "unwanted" dogs, kill them (usually a bat to the head) and then dispose of them in a trash bag in local garbage dumpster. All just for $$$. Very sad indeed. I can never go to a dog track again and contribute money towards this abomination. For every dog you see winning and racing, there are hundreds more that were bred and just don't have what it takes to compete and so they are destroyed. We really should put an end to dog racing. It's one small step up from cock fighting.

The only difference between horse and dog racing is that horse racing brings in ungodly amounts of money from all over the world, whereas dogs are mostly local money.

Think nothing of it...it's not a serious thread anyway, and this is DSP, after all...which I think stands for Diversion from the Stated Purpose, doesn't it?

Thanks for the kind words and the link, Jack.

But I'll tell you the same thing I tell strangers when they meet my greyhound and say something like, "Wow, I've seen what happens to alot of greyhounds and your dog sure is lucky to have made it off the track and found a good home."

All I can do is smile and say, "No, you've got that backwards, *I'M* the lucky one because I found such a GREAT dog."
