OT: Where is PK?
Moderators: Bill_Abner, ScoopBrady
Ha...I'm so stubborn about that XBox Communicator. I should just accept that I've lost it and move on...but I have this sneaking suspicion that the day I purchase a new one will be the day that I find the box that it's hiding in. One day, it will be found. Maybe it's under that pile of Hilary 08 bumper stickers PK sent me last week....
Jared, I don't think the point has every been that your moderation was harsh, but the fact that you have several people who aren't moderators trying to moderate.Jared wrote:Forum always slows down during the summer. Things don't pick up usually until football season starts.
As for thread locking, I use my judgment as to whether lines have been crossed in a thread. If a thread looks like it will devolve into nothing but personal attacks, then I lock it. It's much better to do that instead of letting people go off on each other. In that thread, it was clear that it had become personal, so I locked it.
I have absolutely nothing against "heated discussions", and anyone who's been around the forums for a while knows that I allow many heated discussions. Note that some of the other sports gaming forums don't even allow discussions about politics because of the potential for animosity and chaos. I think it's fine to allow it, but lines have to be drawn somewhere.
If you think that our policy is harsh...then I really don't know what to say. We tend to be much more liberal about posting policy and thread locking than most forums. But I will be happy to discuss this further if people think my moderation/locking is too harsh.
And to keep the thread on topic....
Hope you come back PK.
I understand the desire to keep things together in certain threads, but so what if someone posts a question about an mp3 player and starts a new thread about it? I, for one, am not going to look through two or three pages of topics to make sure the one I'm about to post hasn't been done already.
There are a lot of threads I don't look in like the Xbox 360 marketplace thread. I'd much rather see a new thread posted that says "Dead Rising demo now on marketplace" than see it posted at the end of the multi page marketplace thread. Not to mention that there may be discussion about the demo itself so why not have its own thread as opposed to cluttering up the marketplace thread with 15-20 posts about Dead Rising?
You somewhat endorsed the "thread police" and apparently that has given them unseen power. My take is if you're not a moderator, then don't moderate. This place has always taken care of itself in most cases anyway.
I used to frequently visit a Minnesota Twins forum that got out of control on the "few active threads as possible" way of posting. There are 20-something page topics that have nebulous "Twins in 2006" titles and things like "Liriano moved into rotation!" that got locked. Drove me crazy and I don't go there much anymore.Badgun wrote:There are a lot of threads I don't look in like the Xbox 360 marketplace thread. Personally, I don't have much of a problem with new posts about new but similar topics. Yeah, we probably don't need 3 different NCAA on 360 posts and definitely don't need a new soccer post for every major transfer, but otherwise the traffic isn't so high here that everything gets pushed to the third page by the end of the day.
