Indeed. He'll be recycled, lead a team to instant improvement yet failure in the playoffs, grow at odds with his GM or players, see his team fall out of the playoffs and be fired.Airdog wrote:I'm sure that he'll end up somewhere else again.XXXIV wrote:![]()
I dont think Ive ever known an NHL without Pat Quinn.

You're kidding right? Just look to the pre-lockout Leafs. When playing against a speedy team (eg. Ottawa) it's just clutch and grab baby! Brian McCabe was the MASTER. Shane Corson as well.10spro wrote:
But one thing I like about Pat is his coaching philosophy, that Hockey should be a fast open tempo game, no muggins or clutchings, and all the teams that he coached, played that way.
I can't verify the accuracy of this claim, but I was told in Canada they teach kids to play 'backwards' from how Americans pick up and learn because it's better to have your strong hand (aka throwing hand) on top of the stick, not down low.Feanor wrote:Why do so many right handed people play hockey left handed? I'm not saying P. Quinn wasn't good for the leafs during his run, but I don't think he was the anti-clutch/grab guy that you played him up to be.. that's all.10spro wrote:James, where exactly did the Leafs stand prior to the P. Quinn era? In those years which team in the Eastern conference didn't grab and clutch? What I am saying is that he brought respectability to a franchise that was the joke of town. And the play he installed in the team was more fun to watch from a fan point of view. Ask any player in the NHL and they'll play for a Coach like Quinn anytime, but like I said before, his fault is that he's too loyal to his group, and that includes players and coaches.
Don't get me wrong, I believe Toronto needed a change of air badly but that includes J. Ferguson Jr. Bringing players like the often injured E. Lindros (although he was a nice addition before his injury) and J. Allison. Oh and how about bringing another oldie in Richarson for Klee. That's moving forward? I hate the Leafs.
If you're going to clean house, start from the source of the fire and IMO that starts with the GM.
Grew up playing hockey here in Canada, and now my kids are playing. Neither myself or my friends were taught this way and I don't know of any parents or coaches on my kids team that do this. It MIGHT be the case for some... but it's not widespread as far as I can tell.Naples39 wrote:I can't verify the accuracy of this claim, but I was told in Canada they teach kids to play 'backwards' from how Americans pick up and learn because it's better to have your strong hand (aka throwing hand) on top of the stick, not down low.Feanor wrote:Why do so many right handed people play hockey left handed? That's what I was told when I was a kid in Detroit.Naples39 wrote:I can't verify the accuracy of this claim, but I was told in Canada they teach kids to play 'backwards' from how Americans pick up and learn because it's better to have your strong hand (aka throwing hand) on top of the stick, not down low.Feanor wrote:Why do so many right handed people play hockey left handed? PK, I think you also described Mike Keenan, except that Keenan likes to reduce the franchise to shambles before he is tossed.pk500 wrote:Indeed.
