Ya the playoffs have been great this year. I hadn't watched as many games in the past as I have this year. I think not having a dominating team which you knew would win it helps. It's more like the nfl this year where the playoffs are wide open and any team can win it.lexbur wrote:Yeah, I know I'm nothing but a low-life fairweather fan/bandwagon jumper, but man, I've REALLY enjoyed the NBA playoffs this year. I've always enjoyed the hockey playoffs in the past, but apparently the NHL doesn't want me to watch their playoffs this year. Especially after watching the Blue Jackets all year long, it's kind of a slap in the face to only throw me a bone once a week on Saturday afternoons. Way to grow your fan base, NHL.
But thanks to the NBA I haven't missed the NHL one bit.
And even if the Cavs lose their next two games, it's been a great run.
Btw, classy move by the Cavs yesterday, the whole team going to St. Louis for Larry Hughes' little brother's funeral.

The jump balls at the end not sure about. I thought on the 2nd one they should have given a time out to Dallas. But then again, Finley got punched in the nuts so I guess a jump ball evens it out.
The block on dirk was great, but why was that a foul last game and not now. Dallas still had a chance to win but terry hurried it instead of maybe getting a dribble and shooting. Dallas is still in charge though so thats a positive.

The fouls on Duncan and the and-ones they were giving him were stupid beyond belief. He was throwing himself into the centers and getting calls. The Mavs were *begging* him to shoot that little 8 footer. Nope, Duncan just plows into you and gets the foul... no moves, put your head down and let's go. Parker travels on just about every play, and Ginobili did a neat trick where putting the ball behind your back distracts the ref from seeing you took 4 steps.wco81 wrote:Come on 10 fouls on guys guarding Duncan in less than a half?
Geez they want to extend this series at all costs.
As Barkley says, the officiating in these playoffs has been horrible, to put it charitably.
And usually Duncan is allowed to be brutalized so I guess they owe him something.
Oh well... at least I got a kick out of seeing the LeBrons win...

Bah. I saw nothing no worse than any of the stuff Dirk has been getting bailed out on.Kazuya wrote:The fouls on Duncan and the and-ones they were giving him were stupid beyond belief. Why not also compain about the sun setting and rising? As I always say when is pass inteference and when is it not when it happens nearly every play. Or since this is the way it has always been time immorial from Jordan to Bird to Dr J and so on in the NBA your complaints always strike me as odd. What version of the NBA have you been watching your entire life? Superstars get calls. The game is played fast and since refs don't have the benefit of sitting and watching plays in slow mo instant replay like you do, they will always be judgment calls. Stars tend to get the benefit in those cases. You always act as if this is something new or some form of deceit when the entire sport has/is always been this way. There are some games that are officiated worse than other games. I'm not saying that doesn't exist of course. But some magic standard where everything is the same through your subjective eyes seems bizzare to me. Team play differently everytime. Players play differently everytime. Agressiveness changes the nature of how a game is called.wco81 wrote:That may be. But then use that standard every game and even better, throughout a game.
Or gasp, apply to all players equally.

Man, this just drives me crazy when I see it. Did it ever occur to the NBA Conspiracy theorists that 7 game series between playoff teams tend to go 6 or 7 games in sports?wco81 wrote:Geez they want to extend this series at all costs.
If you ignore the first round, which may have some mismatches, here's how the NBA compares against the NHL in the past 5 complete postseasons. I also included MLB, but the number of series is obviously much smaller:
NHL: 4 games 9%
5 games 20%
6 games 31%
7 games 40%
NBA: 4 games 17%
5 games 23%
6 games 34%
7 games 26%
MLB: 4 games 13%
5 games 33%
6 games 13%
7 games 40%
We have arguments on calls in pickup games. I'm not sure I've ever played in or watched a basketball game at any level that didn't have questionable calls, pissed-off fans, or coaches screaming at the officials. Basketball is a difficult game to officiate and it's only getting harder. Almost every play requires the same judgment as a pass interference call in football and we know how controversial those can be.
It's always been bad. Some people accept it and some don't.reeche wrote:Why not also compain about the sun setting and rising? There are still times when you're not aware of refs affecting the game. Other times, they put themselves front and center so much that you are pulled violently out of the immersion that in sports, only athleticism and skills matter and nothing else.
If you could only write it off to judgement calls. It's amazing people won't tolerate such forms of cheating as performance-enhancing drugs because they eliminate a level playing field. But they don't mind bad officiating which also eliminates a level playing field? It must be about having tolerance for bullshit.
So what are you supposed to do if you don't accept it? Stop watching? It seems like a lot of people that don't accept it watch anyway so why bother?wco81 wrote:It's always been bad. Some people accept it and some don't.
I'm just sick of all the bitching about the officiating whether it be the Champions League, Super Bowl, NHL, or NBA playoffs. I think it's fine to expect top notch officiating in sports, but I don't see anyone doing anything about it besides bitching. It's almost like people are watching NBA games just to find things to b*tch about regarding the officials.
The Immaculate reception. A boxer's scorecard, Baseball strike zones, Michael Jordan shoving off on Russell, and the list goes on and on.
You will never get the 100% objective satisfaction you crave, but then sports fans are like housewives. They need something to complain about.

no but you can grab a guy in the nads and squeeze and only get a fine. Terry was on the bottom when two guys on top of him (that doesn't sound right). He's trying to get up. NO ONE, knew that there was a problem with that scramble after the game.dbdynsty25 wrote:I guess players throwing punches and getting suspended now constitutes a conspiracy theory.SoMisss2000 wrote:Jason Terry has been suspended for Game 6, lol. Not to keep rehashing this but saying that the nba has the worst officating in all the major sports doesn't mean everything is a conspiracy theory.
This has been a problem for years in the NBA and seems to be systemic rather than some kind of mass conspiracy. I think that's what most of us are saying.

He punched Finley in the junk...that's a little worse than the reacharound that Evans gave Kaman.SoMisss2000 wrote:no but you can grab a guy in the nads and squeeze and only get a fine. Frankly I'm amazed that the Suns made the series last this long. They are significantly outmanned down low. They handled the Lakers because it was just Kwame Brown...but that just doesn't work with Elton Brand...that guy is virtually unstoppable by anyone on the Suns. Hopefully the Suns will give them a run in Game 7...but it just looks like they are dead tired...especially Nash.
