Don't forget to go into course settings and set conditions for Tournament. It makes quite a bit of difference. I played St. Andrews tonight and had several nice fairway shots end up rolling into the rough because the fairways was so fast. It was nice if you got the right roll, but those round bunkers all over make even that treacherous.DivotMaker wrote:

Terrific game. So many courses. A shame Rory isn't even half of this. Game.
I'm just informing people of a quality alternative at a great price.

I am simply letting you know that there are serious issues playing online if you do install the only patch. It will reset your clubs in the bag and remove your putter EVERY round you play online. Pardon me for trying to give you a heads up....I won't make that mistake again.

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
It's not a freezing issue Will.....but if you apply the patch and play online, you will lose your club selections (they reset to default clubs) and your putter will be missing. I know that the DLC courses/content is no longer for sale, but if you had paid for it before, it should be available to re-download.Wilk5280 wrote:I've been playing '14 on the PS3 and haven't had any freeze ups. I do remember having them on the 360 and it was quite frustrating to say the least. I also popped in '13 and forgot how much I enjoyed that game as well. I'd say '13 is my favorite of the series.
Not to derail the Rory aspect of the thread, but does Divot or anyone else know about EA pulling the Tiger Woods games and their DLC content off of the marketplaces? I had downloaded some DLC for '13 that I've sense removed and it doesn't appear to be available for me to download again. Maybe I'm missing something here... anyway back to Rory
Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
i thought you were talking about a rory patch, not tiger14. i don't play online so it' won't affect me. Tiger 13 was like 7 bucks at walmart, 11 bucks for the master edition. maybe i should get that game as well. but so far 14 is sufficient.
Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
Thanks Divot.
I haven't been able to find '14 for the 360 anywhere cheap (I've looked at Walmart), but I wouldn't mind having it again on that system as I see myself keeping it longer term than the PS3.
Anyway, I do hope that EA does provide some substantial post release support for Rory. I'd love to hop on the wagon, but I need more than what's available in the game right now. I wonder if it's possible to expand on the career mode post release, allow for us to customize it more, pick which courses are used for each tournament etc. More than the number of courses, or lack there of, I'm concerned with just how bare bones it is across the board.

agreedAristo wrote:You can get the content back, at least on the 360. You will need to go into your download history and find it. From there you can redownload anything you've bought, even if it has been pulled from the store. And yeah, EA pulled everything after splitting with Tiger. So if you never bought it before, I don't think you can get it anymore. But I did download content for 13 recently.
I was playing 14 on the 360, and finally gave up. I does play a nice game, but getting 16 holes into a match and then having it freeze up is frustrating, especially if it was going well. TW 11 is still my favorite, just for the TrueAim zoom without the reticule and such. It basically had the system everyone is wishing RMPGAT had. But TW 13 is a really good game.

Here's yours and everyone else's chance to have your comments taken into consideration.....especially those who hate the putting....J_Cauthen wrote:I've wondered if there would be enough demand for another difficulty level that DivotMaker has tagged "Tour Custom" (Advanced swing, Advanced Lies, Wind gusts on, shot arc off, green grids on [I take it "beadless" green grids is what is meant here?] Diagonal swing for draws/fades on) with the swing/fill meter HUD devices turned off and required a fully proportional swing interface for putting, and really, all shots? I wouldn't mind seeing the swing meter after impact as a feedback mechanism. I can see this design working for a significant segment of the market.Diablo25 wrote:Totally agree. I hate that the set up of the putt (and shots for that matter) is more important than actually executing the shot.
This would constitute a design change and I'm not sure it fits their three difficulty level model. Then again, I'm not sure that the majority of those now playing Tour difficulty (in ranked matches) wouldn't rather play something like I'm describing anyway. I read a lot more complaints about the load and fire putting interface from this group than praise, but I'm probably not doing a scientific survey on it either.
BTW, ths "Advanced" swing in the Tour Custom settings, I'm away from my XB1 for a while, but are the swing difficulty settings Normal, Hard, and Advanced, or is it Advanced, Hard? I had it set on the highest one and I could see a minor increase in accuracy control for full shots, and a higher tendency to push putts, in that highest setting, whatever it's called.

Nothing like playing a round...being completely bored by hole 8 or so, and then having your golfer disappear completely so you can't hit anymore shots. Ball is still there, you can still aim, but Ricky Fowler was a ghost!

I don't get the vitriol over this. I'm having fun with the game. The putting is bizarre, but I don't find myself wanting to throw a controller or anything over it. I've had some really fun matches with a buddy, and continue to have fun offline...especially once I unlocked all those additional point distribution types and start mixing things together, like precision and biting to get iron shots that get extra spin.
Just weird how this whole thread has devolved into tossing sh*t at each other, mostly.

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
I played Chambers Bay last night with Rory and followed immediately with Chambers Bay on The Golf Club. While Rory was far prettier, I had far more fun and felt far more connected to the joystick and my golfer's swing with TGC.
I want tactile feel with a golf game. Rory doesn't deliver that. TGC does, in spades.
'Nuff said.

The problem with RM is that the developers cannot cure it this year. Patches and fixes don't make up for a sterile and boring game. There's literally no pull for me to continue playing the game after a few holes. It's far to easy to hit straight, the putting engine is atrocious and the lack of content, while fixable (I guess), is historically bad. They had a full featured albeit flawed as well, TW in 14 (the Masters Edition was awesome), and just like NHL, they thought it would be OK to give us what amounts to a demo really. It's unacceptable to me, and if that constitutes s*** tossing and complaining after developer comment links, then F*CK it...I'm a s*** tossing complainer.DivotMaker wrote:TCrouch wrote:I don't get the vitriol over this. Nope...don't care about that. You can toss sh*t at the game all you want and it doesn't bother me a bit. It just seems that a lot of this lately is tossing sh*t at other DSP users back and forth, which is what has me scratching my head.
We don't generally get this angry at each other for football or racing games or something that is far less niche than golf--it just seems odd.

I was the 7th to post at OS in the thread linked above. It sounds like most are beating the same drum. I know Justin Patel is reading the responses and I'd imagine if there's a common enough request, they'll try to accommodate. There's no reason in the world they can't get rid of the fill meter/green ball, and that would be a great start.

Maybe because it shouldn't be as tough to create a realistic golf game as it is team sports' games. Team sports contain multiple players, complex AI schemes for offenses and defenses, etc. Racing games contain different kinds of cars with many variables.TCrouch wrote:We don't generally get this angry at each other for football or racing games or something that is far less niche than golf--it just seems odd.
Golf contains a consistent number of uniform clubs in a bag, terrain and one player. Yet developers/publishers like EA still can't get it right.

That's still getting angry at the game, which I can understand. But a lot of this is turning personal, at each other. That's what I don't get.

How the hell do you know that? Why would they be asking for feedback and suggestions on what the community wants if they could not patch in better gameplay? We all get that you don't like the game. I cannot believe anyone would claim RM as "sterile and boring" over TGC which has the most sterile and non-imaginative Golf environment I have ever played. Okay, you like TGC better. No need to s*** on this thread. If you like TGC so damn much, go post about how wonderful that environment is. But you have a bug up your ass simply because I have a different opinion than yours regarding TGC for Xbox versus TGC for PS4 and you make every effort to let everyone else know it. Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
The problem is that most developers are too damn scared to make the games harder. Been asking TGC Devs for a year now to give that game more simulation mode options. They have no interest.pk500 wrote:Maybe because it shouldn't be as tough to create a realistic golf game as it is team sports' games. EA has already developed more of a simulation mode and it is testing right now based on feedback here, on the RM forums, OS, Twitter, Facebook, and other telemetry. They gave users Simulation Mode in Tiger 14 and it was the worst selling Tiger in 10 years. The answer is not simple, IMO and it takes a developer who is interested in listening to user feedback to deliver on this AFTER the game ships because all they have to go on is their telemetry which doesn't always crank out the right scenarios for game design.

Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
Bingo. But it's been thrown both ways...must be some history that I'm unaware of.
Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Golf
They made a game that is great for people like me, who pretty much suck. On Tournament conditions, Friday pins, and the highest wind settings (which was still a touch less than expected for St. Andrews today, I shot a +10, had trouble staying in the fairway, avoiding bunkers, and avoiding three putts with Jordan Spieth. It was fun as hell, too.
And I think the presentation and commentary is better than any golf game I've ever played. The game lacks modes and other content, but I'm loving it on the course. I wish it had some of the social aspects of past games, where you were challenged to be the longest drives of your friends and other top performers.
And when playing Online tournaments, it would be cool to show the leaderboard for those who have finished, and those playing. even better is to include stuff like hole averages, average drives, and stuff like that. It's all being tracked, so feed us that info as we play. They should rip some of that stuff off of PowerstarPowerstar Golf, because it goes a long ways to making you feel like you are always playing against your friends and others.
