Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
Another interesting tidbit swings towards Sony. PS4 has a user replaceable hard drive (hello SSD) whereas the One uses proprietary Microsoft hardware. Obviously the MS advantage is USB storage, which isn't mentioned by Sony (to which I assume IS supported since it's just software that enables it, but who knows).

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
I wasn't really being snide in my post. I honestly have not been able to follow all of the E3 footage and the little I searched for on YouTube was cutscenes or that NFS game which looked like it was on a current gen system.Zeppo wrote:I think you're a little bit nuts. I only watched the Xbox presentation and The Division gameplay footage and pretty much everything I saw blew away what I get from my 360 and PS3. I mean blew it away. That Roman soldiers game had some pretty insane s*** going on all over the place. The Battlefield 4 stuff shown at the Xbox show was incredible, what with all the water, and stuff flying around every which way. Very dense images. The gameplay footage of Dead Rising 3 was about one million miles ahead of the previous Dead Rising games. That bizarreness that is TitanFall could never be done on the current gen stuff. Maybe Ubisoft's The Division thing was being done on the PC but I think it might have been on the PS4 and it was way, way beyond what the 360 or the PS3 can do.Spooky wrote:Can anyone point me to actual gameplay footage from these new consoles? Or more specifically, any gameplay footage that actually looks "next-gen" or better than what I see on the lastest gen of 360 games? I am having trouble finding anything...
I was sincerely hoping for a few ideas of titles or links to see videos of awesome (actual) gameplay footage. I will sek out Dead Rising 3 and The Division. Didn't even know about those games.

The XBone stuff is on the Xbox 360, but gametrailers.com has some stuff, I think.

Xbox One showed off more exclusives. The Show doesn't count for me - I can't get into baseball games.
I'm back to undecided, except I know I'll get one of them as my birthday/Christmas gift to me.

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
So EA is not letting people film any footage at E#, not just next gen which makes sense but current gen as well. That's not a red flag at all

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
I think they should be fine. They stopped developing EA Sports games for the PC except for FIFA but I remember one of the last Madden PC versions looking great even on a laptop because the resolution was so much higher and the lighting was better.Danimal wrote:So EA is not letting people film any footage at E#, not just next gen which makes sense but current gen as well. Tiburon may not be developing PC games but Vancouver certainly has.
Most of the polishing they do will go to replays and close up sequences, not as much with the LOS view on Madden and other zoomed-out views.
It's the features and gameplay that are in question.

Amazon closed off Xbox One pre-orders today. I'm glad in got in. I'd be interested to see how many pre-orders were placed.

Who cares? I mean who really spends more money on an SSD drive to put in their gaming consoles on top of the money they already spent?dbdynsty25 wrote:Another interesting tidbit swings towards Sony. You won't spend the extra $100 for the xb1, but you'll spend $250 for an SSD drive?
You comments in this thread are worthless. Champagne popped!

Never said anything about the money being an issue. I did say I wouldn't be buying two 500 dollar consoles. I buy more worthless s*** than anyone so not sure why I am worthless.MizzouRah wrote:Who cares? Peter Moore denies EA lobbied for blocking used games sales:DivotMaker wrote:This is where I fall right now.....way too early in the game to tell and since there are strong indications there will be no Tiger 15 for ANY console, I may just wait and see how things fall out before making any purchases. I also think that EA is behind the MS push for the used game sales and always connected to the net/every 24 hour log in. If so, and if it is just EA, then I think MS will be forced to relax/remove these requirements. If it is more than EA, then who knows how this plays out.tjung0831 wrote:At this point, I'm keeping my options open and while PS4 sounds great right now, it's way to early to make any call on this so obviously no need to pre order anything at this point. I think some of you are jumping the gun Sony's $100 less price tag right now. I'm sure not going to make my decision based on $100 on something I'm going to have 6 or 7 years.
http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/11/442...and-used-gamesPolygon: The narrative I've heard is that EA lobbied hard to have the hardware companies come up with a solution so you guys are not faffingaround with online passes and you're not losing potential used game profits toretailers.
Moore: "Absolutely incorrect. As the guy who is the chief operating officer of Electronic Arts I can tell you that EA did not aggressively lobby for the platform holders to put some gating function in there to allow or disallow used games. I am on record as being aproponent of used games. I like the ecosystem. I like the fact that it's kept pricing at a good level for eight years. I like the fact that someone can buy a physical game and see some equity in that game. That keeps GameStop vibrant and they are agreat launch and marketing partner for us.
"EA has never had a conversation, and I have been present at all of them, with all of the manufacturers, saying you must put a system in place that allows us to take a piece of the action or even stop it. Absolutely incorrect."
And he explains that they didn't cancel the online pass because they knew the Xbone system for blocking used games was coming:
You had the Online Pass and now it's gone. The view is that you made that call because either the Online Pass was commercially marginal or you have got something else waiting to take its place.
Moore: "We cancelled Online Pass. I was at the meeting. It just wasn't resonating with the consumer. It just wasn't consumer friendly. It was hard work and it was as much work for the guy who would never trade his game in, even though we gave him some digital content, because you're punching numbers in. We just made a decision. I was the chair at the meeting. We said enough of Online Pass. Not saying, you know, it was Austin Powers type meeting of Doctor Evils saying [places pinkie finger on eyetooth, Dr. Evil-style] 'we know we can get it back down the road'. No. That was not the meeting I was in. Online Pass was more trouble to the consumer than it was worth. It was a mistake. The consumer's feedback was that this thing gets in the way of a good experience so let's get rid of it."
So looks like this whole scheme is Microsoft's idea.

IndyCar announced for Forza 5 at E3:
Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
I doubt F5 will include anything other than the IMS (F1 course and Oval) and a few licensed Indycars. Licensing adds to the price of development.
Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
Lost in some of the talk...
Will we see the same reduction in features in the "new" Madden, NHL, etc games that we saw when going from the xbox/ps2 to the current gen systems? Like just season modes available and no editing, etc.

You and Rod do buy a ton of stuff.

Please don't take my words to heart, long day yesterday and I've been an asshole since the loss of our Golden Retriever.

I didn't get the reasoning for the new DRM on Xbox One and it put me off. But this article helped.

If you want your games all digital, at least they are providing some limited ways you can share and transfer your digital licenses.

That's right, boys, amidst the smoke from BF4 and craters from Halo, they won't notice what we slipped by them until it's too late! While the Internet is decidedly up in arms about the way the Xbox One handles game ownership and online check ins, Mehdi said it was "hard to say" what the larger reaction from the less attentive mainstream consumers would be. "I think it's fair to say there's a segment of consumers at this show in particular who really pay attention, who are very passionate about all aspects of gaming, and that we listen to closely. In a broader set of community, people don't pay attention to a lot of the details. We've seen it in the research, we've seen it in a lot of the data points."

Re: New Xbox AND PS4 Info/Rumors
Microsoft has earned a lot of capital with me over the last generation so my initial leanings remain towards XB1.
I think Microsoft was more innovative, introducing multiple UI refreshes, Kinect (which while love it or hate it, my daughter thoroughly enjoys and its use as a Skype cam will be appreciated by family on the other coast) and concepts like Illumiroom on the horizon. Like many others, the Xbox controller is far more comfortable to me and while Sony's may be improved this go-round, I'm not sold on it yet. The ability to launch Netflix and Hulu content directly from Smartglass on my Android phone is a big plus too. And while Live requires payment, I've routinely gotten deals in the $35-40 a year range which is quite palatable given the ecosystem is leaps and bounds better than Sony's offering IMHO.
As a result, and also like many others, my PS3 has been used predominantly as a Bluray and Sony exclusive player. I am going through Ni No Kuni with my kids (Studio Ghibli fans) at the moment, and have a couple of other titles I'd like to get to, but far more of my time is spent on X360.
In the long run, the 100 bucks is less material if this upcoming gen is at least as long as the last one. I won't enjoy it as I plunk it down, I'm certain, but I won't let it deter me given I bought into Kinect last gen and see the improved hardware as something to offset the difference.
I've resisted the urge to preorder either console yet. If past history serves, I'll own both at some point but won't out of the gate. I'd like to see a bit more coalesce before throwing in with one or the other. I tell myself I even have enough to keep my busy some few months into the new generation if I decide to wait it out, although I'm sure the pull of getting one of them will be stronger come November if I'm still fence-sitting
