I finally bought rFactor last night...what an incredible game. Now I just have to tweak my MOMO wheel. Does anyone have any settings that work pretty good for them so that I can have a baseline to start with?

Oh, boy: Another animal for the rFactor zoo! rFactor is killer, isn't it? Now you know why those of us who play it criticize Gran Turismo so much. :)

In Windows Game Controllers:

Force Feedback Strength: 100
Everything else: 0
Centering spring box: Unchecked

In rFactor:

Force Feedback strength: -80
Everything else: Default

That's a good starting point. Have you downloaded any mods or tracks from www.rfactorcentral.com? If you think the default cars and tracks in the game are good, you'll splooge once you grab some mods and tracks at rFactor Central.

Post here or PM if you want some tips on good mods and tracks.

Take care,
PK

I haven't done anything yet...just played the demo and loved it, so I bought it. I would be surprised if GT5 even looks as good as rFactor. 1920x1200 with everything maxed out...it's gorgeous. Can't complain there.

I'll get into it more tonight...the Suns/Spurs game last night distracted me...nothing is going on tonight so I'll start downloading some of the mods to see what all the fuss is about.

Thanks.

I obviously don't know what the hell I'm doing because I can't figure out how to use the mods. I installed a couple of them PCC and IRL and only the IRL shows up...in fact, the whole game looks like it's dedicated to IRL and there aren't ANY other cars available. I may have jacked it up.

Get this, now, if you haven't already.

Back in January, I posted a couple of hundred words on the v0.9 release:
The car models are fairly simple by rFactor standards but nicely done and easy to recognise.
Happily, this is also the case with the new models for those cars not included in the 0.9 release. It's a full 1988 grid now, which is wonderful news for all you Oscar Larrauri fans out there, and you could safely run all the cars with plain white skins and still be able to recognise each car instantly on sight. They're among my favourite models of any rFactor mod, in spite of their relative simplicity.
The sound...as the mod maker says, it's all the same sound file, and it's too high-revving for the cars.
That's been fixed, with a much deeper, more convincing engine note now on offer.
The default setups (I lack the time and inclination to change anything) have nutty amounts of downforce - Eau Rouge at Spa 1988 is flat in the McLaren, but even a Honda turbo doesn't have the punch to get into top gear down the long back straight. Consequently, there's tons of grip and it's nigh-on impossible to lose it exiting a corner, though you can still spin on the way into a turn. Maybe that'll be changed for the 1.0 release...
Lordy, has it ever changed. Carrera.4 says there's 25% less downforce now, and while it didn't feel quite that dramatic a loss to me, straightline speeds are higher and cornering speeds a little lower. At Spa the McLaren now tops 190 down the back straight with a decent run-up, and Eau Rouge is back to being a truly great corner; it's flat in 5th, but for me it's only just flat in 5th and there's absolutely no road left if I get everything right. If I don't, it's a wrestling match trying to get everything straightened up for the exit, and with the barriers being so close to the track it really catches your attention. Blanchimont, the left before the Bus Stop, is a tremendous challenge now too.

(Edit - Eau Rouge is only just flat in 5th in a McLaren. I haven't tried it in another car yet, but if you're planning on going flat in 5th through there in, say, a Coloni, I'm not being held responsible for the terrible, terrible accident you'll inevitably have...)

The only black mark again concerns the occasional suicidal tendencies of the AI off the starts. Because I can't get these cars off the line yet (it looks I'm starting races on my own terms instead of the starter's) I've had a good view of several starting straight disasters at Silverstone 1988, including a cracker that left three cars upside down and a fourth rolling across the track just in time for me to hit him amidships. Once they're up and running, though, the AI are as good as they were in v0.9, leaving racing room but no more than you absolutely need and pinching places from you, and each other, without hesitation.

This has gone straight into my rFactor Central Hall of Fame. I really do like it that much.

I need to get this tonight. I loved the 0.9 version, and it sounds like the 1.0 version is improved in every way.

Thanks for the tip, boys.

One thing about the mod is that I need to turn the engine mapping all the way down to 0. If I don't it seems I spin out constantly.

Grant, did you get the 1.01 patch for it? I can't actually remember if I have it, but I'm not spinning off too often. The mod maker has been saying that people are reporting trouble keeping under control on downshifts or something like that.

No, I'm on 1.0. I'll grab the update and see how it goes.

EDIT:
Yup, that was it. The 1.1 update made all the difference. Fantastic mod, I was having a blast zipping around the Glen in them.

I guess Simbin is working on another racing game besides the addon for Race '07. This is the first i've heard of GTR Evolution. Gamespot posted three screens. :D

GTR Evolution is the add-on for Race 2007. I believe it is going to be available as an add-on for Race 2007 or a stand-alone. The speculation is they are milking the development and licensing rights from the failed Xbox GTR game. More info on it here:

http://www.virtualr.net/race07-patch-1104/
RACE07 - Patch 1.1.0.4
Posted 30 minutes ago in RACE07
Normally, a new patch for RACE07 is not too big of a deal. Some little glitches get fixed, mostly stuff that is just noticed by a handful of people. Simbin released a new update via STEAM yesterday that brings some more important stuff though, strangely this patch was not announced like all of them before.

The 1.1.0.4 gets the Honda Accord into the 2007 field for V-WTCC competition. It also comes with changed menus, skid sounds and physics.

Most importantly, the patch prepares the game for the upcoming GTR Evolution add-on as the logo can already be seen in the menu. GTR Evolution is announced to be released on June 20th, making this very early preparations.
Simbin Announces GTR Evolution
Posted 3 weeks ago in Other Sim Racing, RACE07
Remember all the speculation about the RACE07 Addon pack? The two most expected things were either a GT-style addon or the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Turns out that it will be both as Simbin has announced GTR Evolution today!

Available as add-on to RACE07 or standalone game, GTR Evolution will feature 49 unique cars in 500 variations which will race on 19 tracks including the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. This will mark the first time that the 16-mile track will be included in a PC racing game since Grand Prix Legends.

GTR Evolution will include 22 different GT cars in three classes plus an exclusive collection of production built cars. The choice of cars will be enriched by tuned versions of the well-known WTCC cars.

Sporting extended body-kits, rear wheel drive and 600-hp engines, these cars will make you forget what you thought you knew about WTCC cars.

GTR Evolution will be launched in 2008 and distributed by Atari in Europe, Viva Media in the US and Akella in Russia

I don't get the point of GTR Evolution: If you already have GTR or GTR 2, why do you need this game?

Why is SimBin creating a GTR add-on for RACE 07 when it already produces GTR and GTR 2?

I'll pass. Pretty screens, though.

Thanks for clearing things up DChaps that makes a lot of sense now. Thanks for also mentioning the new patch for Race.

PK I agree with what you are saying but to put things in perspective, Simbin is not the same group of guys who did GTR and GTR2. Those guys sold Simbin to another group who went on to produce Race, Race 07 and now GTR Revolution.

The original cast from Simbin went on to form another company called Blimey Games. I think they are currently working on a Ferrari simulation for the PC.

Ah, interesting. Confusing, though, to the average customer. I'd like to think that I'm not the only one who sees a SimBin GTR add-on and thinks, "Sh*t, didn't SimBin create GTR?"

Then again, maybe I'm the only moron. :)
