Anyone can beat anyone but this is the least likely to happen.
NJ is the hottest team. They have no weakness I can see.
As for Brodeur... he is as about as good a playoff goaltender as the game has ever seen....Plus he wears a mask, which will make it very difficult to get at his eye with a stick.
Ofcourse if you are correct...I will take me hat off to ya..

There's the overstatement of the year. Sabres will be fighting for their lives just to make it of the next round.
We'll see what happens. Goaltending could be a problem for the Sens in round two. I think alot of people are forgetting that Buffalo had 110pts this year and next to the Sharks was the hottest team in the league going into the playoffs. This will be a tough series for the Sabres for sure, you know that going in. My point is that whoever wins this series, will be the team that wins the cup this year.

You're forgetting a very large roadblock in the East known as the New Jersey Devils. The Devils are the best team in the playoffs right now.
Buffalo could do it, but it will have to go through the swamps of Jersey first. And then it will meet the Oil in the final -- and lose!
The Sabres and Oilers are very similar, though. Good goaltending, good special teams, four lines that can hurt you, a lot of hustle, a lot of grit, a crafty coach. No one wants to play either team right now, I would think.
Take care,

I don't think the Devils are anywhere near a threat to Buffalo in a 7 game series. No Stevens, no Niedermayer...they don't scare me at all. I think they're going down in round two anyway. I'll take the Canes in 6. If Buffalo gets past Ottawa....watch out! The Sabres and Oilers would be a very entertaining cup matchup.

Tim:
Are you suffering from amnesia about New Jersey? The Devils have won 15 consecutive games, the last 11 of the regular season and a four-game sweep of the Rangers.
It doesn't get much hotter than that. San Jose and Buffalo are two chili-pepper hot compared to the full habanero blast of the Devils.

Carolina is going to put an end to the Devils run, so i'm not worried about it.

Maybe Carolina is the second coming of the 80s Oilers???

After sweeping the Rangers in the first round and seeing Carolina struggle at times against Montreal, why should my opinion change one bit?

Carolina was dead in the water. A freak injury occurred with the Habs up 1-0 going for a 3-0 series lead. The series changed on the dime and still every game they won was by one goal. stll nice comeback by the Canes but nothing that gives any indication that they will beat the Devs.
15 in a row is something that should not be taken lightly...but then again the 80s Oilers should beat these Devils...

The new coming of Cam Ward? He's the reason they turned their last 4 games into the W column and as we know in every playoff, a team discovers a HOT goaltender that can take them all the way to the finals. Although I am with you on this one pk, NJ in 6.

That's cool Paul, we aren't trying to get you to change your opinion! Somewhere in this forum we had some Stanley cup predictions from after the lockout was settled but i can't find them. I think I actually picked the Sharks and Flames in the western conference final, then again i could be wrong.
Oh..is it ever good to be arguing about playoff hockey again! I missed that last year! Hell who am I to talk this year anyway, i'm a Blues fan, so I have to jump on someone's bandwagon and i've been high on the Sabres for the last few years after seeing the kind of talent they've been drafting. Plus the Sabres have been my alternate team for years. They are going back to the Blue and gold next year as well.

I would agree with you in principle on Ward, 10s, but New Jersey has an even hotter -- and proven -- man between the pipes in Brodeur.

The Rangers were the worst team in the playoffs. Any team would have swept them. I can't wait to see how Laviolette uses his team speed to get around the trap. Either way, the Sens or Sabres will have a great gameplan if they end up with the Devils. I'm really not scared of the Devils because they aren't a team that's going to blow you out of the water. They just play a smart, solid hockey game.

Right. Which is exactly the formula used by every Stanley Cup winner.
I HATE the Devils, but I can't believe how many of you are dismissing that team. Show me one major weakness in the Devils' game right now.

I gotta disagree. The Stars were the worst team in the playoffs. No, no, maybe you're right. The Stars were the most disappointing team in the playoffs.

Based on a playoff series against an inferior overrated Rangers team, we can't show you one. I don't think the Devils were even in the playoff hunt the first half of the season. They turned it on in the 2nd half if i remember correctly....i could be wrong because i don't really follow the Devils that much. The Canes were down 2-0 after losing both games at home and then down late in game 3, they could have just quit but they didn't. They're hungry and they want to win. We'll see what happens. Should be a great series.

Well, PK, the only argument I have against that is:
It's the NEW NHL! Speed is much more a factor than it used to be. I'd like to think that 2 years ago, that Philly team would spank the Sabres. And the Devils are a step below the 3 remaining teams. Their great team play seems to offset the speed, so I'm not really underestimating them, I'm just saying I'm not afraid of having to play them.
I would say the Devils skate better than the Hurricanes actually. The Deviled Egg line of Elias, Gionta and Gomez could well be the best skating line in the league.
Since I know you are all dying in anticipation, I'll also be posting some picks for round two after the calgary game tonight. So far I'm 6 for 7 (damn detroit ruining my perfect record).
