As far as the glass, it's the supports in between each pane of glass that is different. They are bigger and when pucks are sent high around the boards they can hit one of those supports and ricochet out to dangerous scoring areas. They were talking about it during one of the games yesterday. They weren't sure why they were changed but the theory was that it was to support more cameras attached to the glass. Not sure if that's true at all.

Yeah, that's what it was. I knew I remember hearing that the supports or the glass were different and causing different bounces. If Emerick said it then who knows if it's true.LAking wrote:As far as the glass, it's the supports in between each pane of glass that is different. Count me among those who cant wait for the game today. This is how Im seeing it shaping up...
1) Miller has been the better goalie not only in this tourney but all season long.
2) The sum of the Team USA parts have been greater than the the sum of Team Canada's so far. Its looking like a hockey team vs an all star team to me.
3) I cant remember seeing a bunch of guys freeze up the way I saw Canada stick to the ice the last five minutes friday night's game vs Slovakia. That pressure is supercalifragilisticly massive.
4) Most importantly Team Canada has three Blackhawks to Team USA's one. I know the Hawks arent the Cubs and shouldnt get the same curse credit they get here in Chicago but they do share some of the same fans
If Miller keeps playing as he has been and his guys clear the players and rebounds from in front of his goal....I see no reason they shouldnt... Im going to along with this pick.

Disclaimer...I wouldnt bet on the US.... Canada could come out and finally hit on all cylinders, Luongo could be incredible, Miller might not be enough this time or he could have a down game and the score could be Can 5 US 1 ....MizzouRah wrote:USA - 3

Unfortunately, this is what I expect. Of course, I didn't think USA would win the group game, never imagined USA would finish the group stage as the top seed, I thought FIN would beat USA, and I thought the CAN - RUS game would be the best of the tournament.XXXIV wrote:... the score could be Can 5 US 1 ....
So, I don't know anything. But I do think the Canadians will play like they have the whole country on the ice with them, and that's a scary thought. I think they will be focused on avenging the group stage loss rather than feeling the pressure and playing not to lose. But hey, this USA team seems to be getting better every game, and they are fast and full of heart and are playing for each other.
I just hope the game lives up to the occasion, and is at least half as good as the first meeting between the two. One thing I do know is I am finally getting tired of the screeching Emerick, and really wish good ol' Sam Rosen could fly in and do the game. I guess there is a reason I prefer watching Rangers games than Devils games, beyond the very slim difference of hatred I have for those teams. Or at least let Kenny Albert do this one. Or how about Michaels himself?
I don't see how the US can lose this game other than if Miller has an off performance. Going into the Olympics I would not have been disappointed if the US did not make it to the final game. Now, I will be disappointed if they lose in the final game. They are clearly the best team at the moment, with the best record.

U.S., 4-2. Same as the score against Finland in the gold medal game in 1980.
Karma is a b*tch, Canada.

Karma+Canadian Mojo= I may have to pull a XXXIV and hit the scotch early!
Just one wish other than a Canadian victory and that is that the game not end in one of those horrible European overtime shootouts. Ridiculous way to decide a game never mind a championship medal.
Best wishes,
Doug

I just hope that should the US win, the sport of hockey and general interest will be boosted all around south of the border. That people will care...finally. Cause I honestly think for the next Olympics to come the next rivalry is this one: Canada vs USA. There will always be a hatred between the Russians and team Canada whenever they meet. There's a lot of history among them.
But looking at the Russians with the exception of a few players, they'll be in a transition mode for a few years as they develop more players. USA has improved that much over the past 5-6 years.
Huge monkey on the back of Canadian players to lift off playing at home. They all know that only Gold is accepted. Will they overcome all the adversity? I think so.
Team Canada 4-1. Drop the puck folks...

Canada will win decisively. This game has a chance to be over very early. Miller has played well all tournament/year, and he's due for a slight letdown. I just don't see the US team being able to score enough goals in this big game. The first game against Canada means nothing right now. Broduer was struggling mightly in that game. Luongo is going to be up to the challenge. I don't know why but I just have a feeling Crosby will score 2 goals today. I also feel like Getzlaf will be a terror today, running around hitting people and setting up scoring opportunities. I have $200 on Canada to win this game, and I wouldn't have put up any cash unless I was certain of it. Canada NEEDS to win. America WANTS to win. If the US loses today, they will be happy with silver. Canada needs gold or bust. I just don't see the US team being able to match the high powered Canadian team. Canada is due for a 5-6 goal performance tonight. I just don't see the US scoring more than 3 goals, so if they want to win Miller can only allow 2 goals.
Canada 5/6
US 3
Canada 5/6
US 3

I just don't see this happening. Look at soccer. America has their best team in years but no one is talking and no one cares. Hockey is a great sport for sure, but too many people still view it as a niche sport just like soccer and tennis. Hockey is neck and neck with the NFL in my eyes, but sadly most people here wouldn't go to an Nhl game if it was in their backyard.10spro wrote:I just hope that should the US win, the sport of hockey and general interest will be boosted all around south of the border. Which made the rivalry with the Russians so bloody intense and meaningful over the past years. Personally, losing to the Russians was always tough to swallow, all that pride, the honor of being the best. But at least we knew that the Russians cared about the sport.fletcher21 wrote:I just don't see this happening. Look at soccer. To me losing to USA goes beyond what the final score maybe. Deep inside with the exception of a few, people will not care about Hockey win or lose. To all Canadians, that's bothersome...
They are greatly over estimating Richards abilities as a center and they havent yet realized that Pronger should have retired 2 years ago.Diablo25 wrote:I realize Canada has to be favored but don't get why people can't at least see the USA pulling it out.
Canada is up 1-0 but as strange as this sounds I think the US actually played em more even in that period than they did last sunday. Except for the one turnover I really like how they have looked.
