Conspiracy theorists have suggested that Microsoft has updated the machines to report the error differently, with the E74 error (NOT covered by extended warranty) actually reporting what used to be the RROD. Evidence for this is apparently the same tricks that can be used to fox the RROD (towel trick, etc) also fix the E74 error.JackB1 wrote:I guess I have been lucky. I am only on my 2nd 360 and I have been keeping the console AND the power strip very well ventilated and so far so good.
Seems like the number of "Ring Of Death" cases has decreased quite a bit. Wonder what this can be attributed to?

Which retailer? I've checked Walmart, Target, Toys R Us and Best Buy and the arcade versions they all have include the memory card.Rodster wrote:Most of the retailers are now carrying the Jasper Arcade 360's. The dead giveaway without opening the box is to look at the contents. If it doesn't include a memory card it's a Jasper. The memory card was replaced with on board memory.

That is very true. I think either Joystiq or Kotaku reported that a while back.webdanzer wrote:Conspiracy theorists have suggested that Microsoft has updated the machines to report the error differently, with the E74 error (NOT covered by extended warranty) actually reporting what used to be the RROD. I believe it because I believe I have experienced it. I couldn't play my last 360 for more than a few minutes without freezing when it "died" and I never got the RROD. Of course, Microsoft doesn't know that and apparently they don't checkwebdanzer wrote:Conspiracy theorists have suggested that Microsoft has updated the machines to report the error differently, with the E74 error (NOT covered by extended warranty) actually reporting what used to be the RROD.JackB1 wrote:I guess I have been lucky. This is a great reference article for finding a Jasper.

There's an easier way to figure out if you got a Jasper. As I mentioned earlier, "cough cough". If the Arcade 360 doesn't come with a 256 memory card it's a Jasper because it's now on the motherboard.
The article confirms what I posted earlier.
"An unexpected bonus is that all Jasper based Xbox 360 Arcade systems come with 256MB of NAND Flash on board:
All Xbox 360 Arcade bundles will now come with 256MB of Flash, if you get a non-Jasper you simply get the Flash in the form of a Xbox 360 Memory Unit. The on-board flash is another mild advantage for Jasper systems, if you don't do any downloading then it's sufficient for save game storage. While I would've preferred more flash on-board, for a business losing money it makes sense to try and cut costs wherever possible.

Are you on number 4 from the repair center or have you bought a newer model?johnvon314 wrote:Deja vu all over again... I'm on to machine #4 and just when I was ready to get excited about Race Pro. Guess I'll join the action in a few weeks.

The first two I've gotten back appeared to be slightly newer models. The one I'm sending back now was manufactured in mid 2006. It lasted the longest. The towel trick didn't even work here.Danimal wrote:Are you on number 4 from the repair center or have you bought a newer model?johnvon314 wrote:Deja vu all over again... What i meant was you just keep recycling from the repair center right?
I'll give you the same advice I gave my buddy who was on his 5th or 6th the repair center machines are s***.
Next time it comes back, Ebay it and go buy a newer model. He hasn't had an issue since doing that almost a year ago and I think the machines out there now are more reliable then a year ago.

Here I am looking around for a Jasper, not even realizing that the RRoD warantee extends for 3 years, so screw buying a new one for 2 bills, even if it is a Jasper.
Hell, I've still got the box MS sent the first repair in. Label printed, sending this b*tch out tomorrow.

I just got the dredded RROD. Here's my question.
When I bought it through Circuit City, I bought a 2 year warranty. I checked and there is a group handling these warranty's for Circuit City.
My question is, should I use my warranty plan through CC, or am I better off going through Microsoft?
Thanks.
Rick

I assume you can just drop it off at your local CC.icvu42 wrote:I just got the dredded RROD. Here's my question.

You'd have to ship it out if you go through MS. Hell, they even stopped giving out coffins to ship it in.

Unlikely. All national CC locations are supposed to be shuttered for good by March 8.Murph wrote:I assume you can just drop it off at your local CC.

Rodster, icvu42 is the one with the CC warranty. I was just giving my 2 cents.Rodster wrote:Murph your warranty is not with CC but with the insurance company. Call them up and they'll take care of the problem. When CC announced it's intent to go bankrupt they said all warranties would be handled by the insurance or warranty companies.
Check the warranty pamphlet and call the number.

My own 360 is sitting in Texas right now being repaired (I hope). Some guy probably has his coffee sitting on it right now, as he shoots the breeze with his co-worker.

It's better to go thru them because chances are you're going to get a brand new machine instead of a crappy refurb from Microsoft.icvu42 wrote:Yeah I got the number for the company that is handling the warranties for CC. I was just wondering is it better to go through them or through Microsoft?
