That's how it was supposed to be but that got scrapped. Now it's just a free and limited demo. They decided to scrap it and do a full-on sequel for the PS3 instead.sportdan30 wrote:Has anyone else been impressed with the GT HD demo? Not only does tha game look phenomenal, it plays very well. I've heard conflicting information about how the cars and tracks will cost money, and everything will be a download. Is this true?

So, I rented a couple PS2 games last night (Tony Hawk for my son and Bully for me). With the 1.8 update by Sony, both of these games look pretty darn good. However, there is no comparsion between the next gen games and last gen games. It's not even close. All that said, I wasn't disappointed in the least. Both of these games play exceptionally well on the PS3. There are probably a dozen PS2 games that interest me, and this is a great way to experience them (full screen and smooth lines).
Thankfully, I was able to figure out a way to hold on to the PS3 rather than selling it. I apologize for the premature ad I posted. Besides, the wife wouldn't let me sell it and take a hit on what I originally paid for it.
It truly is a very nice system and I have no buyer's remorse whatsoever. Actually, my downloads have gotten much faster for some reason. I know there's a lot of disappointment with the online aspect of the PS3, and I know I'm in the minority, but really like the look and feel of the menus, Playstation Store, etc.
While I would definitely make subtle changes to the controller, I really dig the PS3 controller. I know I've commented on it already, so I'll just leave it at that.

Yeah, I came to the same conclusion the other night. I tried out GT4 and although it looked good just about any x360 game or PS3 game that I've tried looks much much better. I think people are quick to use the expresssion "looks like a PS2 game" but they forget how good the next gen games look in comparison.sportdan30 wrote:With the 1.8 update by Sony, both of these games look pretty darn good. It's kinda strange, but I have no jealousy about any of the upcoming 360 games. Yeah, I know there are top shelf games (Halo 3, Forza 2, Dirt, Bioshock, etc) available and on the horizon on the 360, but none of the games appeal to me. The ones that do would only give me mild enjoyment for a week or so, and then I'd be done.10spro wrote:Glad that you're holding on to the PS3 Dan. In terms of PS2 games, I am digging GT4 and the latest WE (Pro Evo 07) and I love it. Add MLB 07 and lately the PS3 is not collecting dust anymore.
It's unfortunate that there aren't a lot of quality PS3 games coming out in the near future, but it does allow me to concentrate on my MLB '07 season rather than jump from game to game. Plus, I'm having fun renting old PS2 games. Still haven't played God of War, and I definitely want to check out WE on the PS2. Bully is darn good game if you're not tired of the GTAesque genre.

So basically your saying you love your PS3 because you can catch up on PS2 games you missed? I hate to break it to you but you could have saved a lot of cash.
If none of the upcoming 360 games interest you, then the PS3 lineup must downright depress you for the next 6-8 months. Lair and WarHawk are the only 2 that remotely interest me.
I have no buyers remorse about getting the PS3 either, it is being used as i intended. But there is no question which system is going to get more use this upcoming fall, that is if it doesn;t break down.

The added feature of being able to play PS2 games upscaled is definitely nice. But, that's not the sole purpose of my PS3 purpose. I fully intend to rent several Blu-Ray movies, rent PS3 games, and continue to download demos. Plus, having the peace of mind with my son watching DVDs or Blu-Ray via the PS3 is nice. I just have a heck of a lot more confidence in this system holding up.

Did you ever get your freezing issue resolved with the show?
I figured out my issue, someone had left a DVD case onj the side of the PS3 covering up the exhaust vent, which I guess is on the side. There was a tremedous heat build up that was causing the freezing.
I since moved the case and also rearranged my PS3 in the cabinet so there is at least 3 inches of space on either side anf have had no issues.

I've copied some through DLNA but it's real slow.10spro wrote:The latest PSP 3.50 FW update is up so that now people can use the 'remote functionality' with the latest PS3 update. Access to videos, music etc, if only I can manage them into my PS3.
I think it might be better to mount an SD or USB Flash drive on the PC first, copy some files over, then plug it into the PS3 and copy onto the HDD there.

I just wrote an editorial titled "Why Microsoft gave away the console war" which covers this subject and a few other items. If it doesn't get picked up maybe I will post it as a blog entry here.DivotMaker wrote:As soon as one of my 360's dies again, I will be swapping it with a PS3....
But honestly they have ensured when all is said and done they will be in last place this generation because these things:
1. Hardware failure rates
When you work this hard to keep the humber a secret and you tell people to be more concerned with the customer service you're receiving you have a big issue. How many people are switching to a PS3 because they are on their 2nd, 3rd or 4th 360.
2. Lack of a prcie Cut
How do you stay ahead when your console is made of glass. Drop the price. This should have happened 6 months ago. If they drop at the same time as the PS3 they will be in worse shape.
3. The Elite
The Elite is a good deal if your buying a new 360. But you don't introduce a new model and A.)Screw over you exisiting customer by pricing the HD so high. B) Release a new model without fixing the issues of #1.
4. Micro Transactions
MT's are the way of the future for everyone. But MS is leading the way as well they should since they have the only true online experience. So when you're setting the bar and testing the waters you open yourself up to a lot of negative pr. The last company that needs to nickle and dime the consumer and be thought of as greedy is Microsoft.
Anyway I'm just blathering on, and these were some of the key points I went into detail on.

I'm just saying I wouldn't have much confidence in the 360 holding up if he and I watched movies on it more than once a week.MizzouRah wrote:Ok Dan you're scaring me here. Isn't it "peace" of mind, not "piece"?
My first X360 was played a ton and the only issue I had was the power supply going out (under warranty though).sportdan30 wrote:I'm just saying I wouldn't have much confidence in the 360 holding up if he and I watched movies on it more than once a week.MizzouRah wrote:Ok Dan you're scaring me here. I honestly don't think there are enough ps3's out there to come to a conclusion that they are well built.
True, but just the fact that the PS3 doesn't sound like a space shuttle launch, come with a power brick the size of the Wii, or allow me to heat my family room gives me a modicum of comfort regarding its longevity.MizzouRah wrote:I honestly don't think there are enough ps3's out there to come to a conclusion that they are well built.

1. There are no mass reports of red rings of death on the PS3.MizzouRah wrote:I honestly don't think there are enough ps3's out there to come to a conclusion that they are well built.
2. The PS3 runs quieter and cooler.
3. Just look at it; touch it. IT SCREAMS quality compared to the 360.
