I just bought NHL 2K7 on ebay. After watching a couple games of NHL Hockey I was reminded just how far NHL07 has to go. It's a really fun game and there are plenty of things it does better than 2K, but I just feel like at some point I'm going to need a change. I'll probably keep both games around for a few weeks and see what transpires.10spro wrote:I have been playing more 07 because I really want to love the gameplay, and the goals give me a bigger satisfaction, but when it comes to realism and tactics I end up going back to 2K7. Not a big issue at this point as I will keep both games.
NHL 07 and NHL 2k7 IMPRESSIONS

I'm with you Leebo. I've played 20+ games of NHL 07 in franchise mode and started playing 2k7 again for fun. Well, I can't stop playing 2k7 now as the smoothness of the gameplay and overall "hockey" feel has me starting up a franchise with 2k7 and now I'm thinking I just might trade in NHL 07 for Tiger Woods or something later on. Crazy.......Leebo33 wrote:I just bought NHL 2K7 on ebay. After watching a couple games of NHL Hockey I was reminded just how far NHL07 has to go. NHL 2k7 might not have that NHL 07 "fun" factor, but it feels so much like watching a real hockey game as the flow in gameplay is great.. plus I love the camera angle. I've been on a hockey game roller coaster this year, which is great.

I'm going to take back NHL 07 for TW 07 if DSPers like it as I'm craving a golf game right now and I'm hoping NHL 2k7 get's another good roster update shortly so I can dig in to my franchise with the Blues.
Both games are so much fun, I just like 2k7 a tad better "overall" than NHL 07, but the new controls are quite fun and I could come back to it at some point.

Sorry.. I know it's been a roller coaster ride for me as well. I was caught up in the fun that is NHL 07 and after many games, I wanted to play NHL 2k7 again to see if that was the game I wanted to take back. Well, maybe it was watching hockey on TV, maybe I'm looking at the whole picture here, but I liking NHL 2k7 just a tad better than NHL 07 and it will be the one I'm sticking with for at least one season of franchise mode as I'll probably play every game.
I couldn't review Atari football, but after some time with both games, I'd rate NHL 07 an 8.5 and NHL 2k7 a 9.0.
The biggest thing that sticks out to me is the framerate in NHL 2k7 really makes the game feel more like hockey when playing.. although I love the presentation in NHL 07.
I'm glad I haven't tried NHL 07. I'm sure it's great fun and all that, but NHL 2K7 has been my most played game, BY FAR, since picking it up.
I'm borderline addicted to it and I really don't know much about hockey. It's also given me the itch to sit down and actually watch the Aves when they're on too.

Rugby 06 did the same thing to me, Boom. I didn't know a damn thing about the sport before I got the game, and now I'm downloading Super 14 rugby torrents from Australian TV.

Take care,

For the three people here still left on current gen, NHL 2K7 with the original sliders found at the link below is sublime.
I'm getting plenty of goals, great goal variety, realistic shot totals, a game that really forces you to play defense, no overdose of one-timers by the CPU if you play proper defense, good penalty-minute totals -- the whole enchilada:

Tip: You must play with manual shot aim to see the goal variety, with any slider set.
Take care,
PK

Hey thanks Pk...I've been using them for the first 3 games of my Leafs season and they are resulting in some pretty interesting games.pk500 wrote:For the three people here still left on current gen, NHL 2K7 with the original sliders found at the link below is sublime.

I've lost all 3- 5-2, 5-4 to Ottawa and 3-2 to the Habs.
Lots of goal variety that's for sure. I just need to play better D! I love the new camera angle but find it hard to play good positional defense with it (I think you are a bit too far away sometimes).

Anticipated eBay funding fell well short of expected, so there's no 360 in my near or possibly distant future, as I'm nearly tapped out of stuff to sell. 80 GB iPod is a priority with slush fund money, and I need to raise more just to get my mitts on it. I'll get there, no doubt, but won't raise enough for a 360 and new iPod. Tunes come before gaming for me -- always.RobVarak wrote:Huh??? I thought you were thinking about a 360?pk500 wrote:Fanatic:

Tax refunds, year-end bonus and annual raise (fingers crossed on latter two) already are earmarked for season skiing passes for family, new roof on house next spring, new set of tires on the mini-van, investments, etc. No different than any other year -- I never see a dime of it!

So there's no sense in paying $50 for something I'm not going to use. I haven't gamed online in more than a month.
Plus I'm very content with NHL 2K7, NFL 2K5, Rugby 06 and TOCA 3 offline on the Xbox.
Take care,
PK

I know that many of you think that the only way to score in 2K7 is thru one timers, well yes, that's one way but I had a good variety, the latest (not to brag) but I had J. Bulis score from his back on a rebound (similar to the one A. Ovechkin scored in real life last season) to make it a highlight reel. If I could only control the amount of shots the CPU throws at me as I am still playing with the sliders all the time.

I started a Caps Franchise a few nights ago with Venom's (from 2khockey) sliders. 10 minute periods. I played two games, and averaged 72 shots per game from the CPU. This was playing decent defense, too. The CPU just seemed content on throwing pucks on the net.
Switched back to All Star Sim default setting. Last 3 games, 33 shots per game for the CPU, with a game against Atlanta having only 24 shots for the Thrashers. Granted, I am now 1-4, but I have found if you play good positional defense and play passing lanes, the CPU won't just try to pass through you. Use the Total Stick Control constantly to clog passing lanes, and lay your stick on the ice for point to circle passes. Most fun I have had with a hockey game in a while since really focusing on defensive positioning.

Venom's sliders are not very good. Try the original sliders in this thread, instead:
http://www.2khockey.net/forums/index.ph ... ntry213711
Randy (Flyermania) has made the best slider settings for 2K hockey since NHL 2K5. Really good if you play straight-up, sim hockey.

Like NHL 07, AS sim defaults play well out of the box for NHL 2k7 360, imo.Millennium wrote:I started a Caps Franchise a few nights ago with Venom's (from 2khockey) sliders. 10 minute periods.
