Me too, but I'm a New Zealander. I just live in America.
Ah - much is now explained
"The players come from all over the world, the money from deep underneath the Persian Gulf, but, as another, older City poster campaign put it, this is their city. They may now exist in the global spotlight, but they intend to keep it that way."
D. Beckham is in a tough position. He's negotiating with RM to have his contract end earlier, something the club won't mind as they will save some cash and headaches as F. Capello won't play him anymore other than practicing with the team.
The MLS doesn't start until April, so what's Becks to do until then? You have to have some match action in order to have some kind of impression as he wants to do in NA.
Did anyone watch T. Henry's goal over the weekend? Very poised he scored an incredible run from three quarters of the field, does a 1-2 touch with C. Fabregas (played a great match) and lofts it over the net. Goal of the season in the Premiership IMO.
Henry doesn't seem to miss a beat since his return from injury. Three consecutive goals in three matches since then.

RBNY are starting their pre-season training on the 2nd of Feb. in Bradenton, FL, so the Galaxy are probably gathering around the same date, give or take a week. It would make a massive difference if Beckham could get there at the start of training rather than late in the season.

He's just signed a contract worth £150m, that looks more like 'woooppee - I just hit the jackpot' than a tough position to me
If he was in the Premiership, he could at least play in reserve games to keep himself fit, but Real's B team are actually in the 2nd division (as Castilla) and have their own set squad, so he can't play for them, I don't think.

Well it appears that Real Madrid are really beginning to clean house. They have said that Ronaldo and Cassano are rumored to on the way out so it could possibly (and I mean possibly) lead the way for Ronaldo to come to the MLS, although I don't know if I want to see him play here.
As big a Ronaldo fan I am, he hasn't been the same. The injuries have really taken a toll on him and apparently it's the reason why he's become "Fatnaldo" since it's become more difficult for him to train due to the injuries. Although I think that's a garbage excuse since lots of player have been hurt but have managed to recover enough to get themselve in reasonable game shape. Yes Ronaldo has had knee injuries but if he's capable of getting himself ready to play in games I don't see a reason as to why he can't get himself in shape if he's capable of playing in games. And he wonders why he doesn't have the adulation of the fans at the Santiago Bernabeu.

While I share your concerns about Ronaldo's fitness before coming to MLS, he might never be an option for MLS. According to different reports, both AC Milan and Juventus are interested in Ronaldo. If Ronaldo decides he's up for another year or two in the big time, MLS has no chance.
As if Capello's critics weren't hurtful enough towards Beckham, Real's big boss R. Calderon called him "a B-list actor living in Hollywood". The comment wasn't supposed to be aired out as he was talking to a bunch on University students on a radio show, but hey just blame the media.
Is anyone going to be watching what it's billed here as the Grand Slam weekend? Liverpool-Chelsea and MU-Arsenal.
Two hot players going against each other, Ronaldo-Henry.
The situation in Chelsa is heating up between Shevchenko and coach J. Mourinho. It was rumoured that the Ukranian was campagning for C. Ancelotti, Milan's coach. Things have somehow cooled between Mourinho and his boss Abramovich and as Shevchenko was under Mourinho's dog house despite his recent injury, they don't seem to see eye to eye. Talk about underachievers in the Premiership this season. It'll remain to be seen if he'll be among the starting 11 this weekend.
DaveT, as if England needs more garbage newspapers. Now they giving free newspapers in the streets of London for the "London Lite", and "The London Paper". Hey it's free .

We got free papers morning and evening in Manchester - the Metro and the Manchester Evening News.
Still, at least City are still in the cup, unlike some other teams i could mention (ello Squid, PK)

I'm happy with the result, we battled you hard, but you guys showed why you are in the EPL. Crossley is fecking ageless though.
PK:
You need to watch the Tottenham Newcastle game. I'm not giving away any spoilers. Just watch it.

Hold on, 5-1 to Birmingham? did Newcastle field a weak side?
When has Newcastle fielded a strong side this season? Recently the defense has consisted of a third-year player (Taylor), a converted attacking midfielder (Solano), a clueless wretch (Ramage) and a kid who was in the Academy in November (Huntington).
Truthfully, it was the same starting 11 that beat Tottenham, 3-2, last Sunday. Not a world-beating lineup, for sure, but still a horrible display against the Brummies.
Take care,
PK

If you watched the match it could have been 10-1, the D was soft and lost, while the O was totally uncoordinated and couln't add two passes together. I think the last tme they played this bad was back in 03 when they lost badly to MU.
Definitely looking forward to this weekend's matchups. It's too bad for me in the West Coast of Canada that I only can watch the Liverpool/Chelsea match up. I haven't seen any listings for the Arsenal/Man U match (that's the one I want to see the most since I'm a Gunner fan).
It should be a really exciting weekend for EPL fans for sure.
It's still not sure whether Sheva will be among the starting eleven for Chelsea as Mourinho is distancing himself from Abramovich. This is a must win for the Blue team if they want to get closer to MU.
And as Real Madrid management continues to act like children towards Becks, they better be careful not to alienate any further player in the organization as captain Raul critizices the President over comments made yesterday. Beckham's soap opera is not over yet as F. Capello may have a change of mind over what he said a week ago. It seems that Ronaldo may be out the door sooner that Becks, so they still may need #23. The Brazilian has his sight set in Milan.
BD, the Arsenal-MU game may be on Fox around 8 AM if they telecast it Live in your area.
Of course you are all aware, I'm sure, that the US plays Denmark today at 5pEST. It will be Bob Bradley's first game in charge, and though it is more like a 'domestic league selects' group for both squads (we have two players who play in Denmark with us), it should be interesting to see some of the fresh blood that might make an impact over the course of qualifying in the coming years. It will also be the first game for the Nats since the loss to Ghana in Nuremberg, so many months ago.
A lot of new faces will get their first cap, and many others their second or third. For some reason, I am convinced Kenny Cooper is going to become a super-hero when all is said and done many years from now. This will be his first game for the Nats. More interesting than this game, surely, will be the friendly v. Mexico (it's never a friendly) in February in Phoenix, which falls on a FIFA date so Bradley will have the chance to bring in at least a few European-based players, but after more than 6 months, even this dreary matchup has the ability to get me excited.

Liverpool really took it home to Chelsea. Man was Liverpool ever motivated. Jermaine Pennant finally scores his first goal and what a goal it was.
Although I'm a Gunner fan, I'm definitely happy that Liverpool were able to take down Chelsea. Now for Arsenal to do the same with ManU.
