Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
Wow, I just had a thoroughly enjoyable round on Tourn. difficulty. I was using the controller and shot an 82. I am loving the challenge of having to use both sticks when in the rough. I just need some time at the practice facility to work on around the green sand shots, pitches, etc. I am getting the hang of those shots but they are touchy. Putting with the controller is really fun and challenging. I'm just sticking with the above method and I putted well. I had 33 putts. Man is #13 (I think) at Valhalla an awesome hole!

I feel the opposite as you guys, the only thing I do not like is how easy it is, for the most part, to hit it straight. I usually club up depending on the elevation and wind, and add some loft if needed. With putting, I think there are so many different ways that you just need to pick what is comfortable and stick with it until the distances start to click for you.

Having an awesome time playing with the controller! I just shot a 1 over 72 at TPC Scottsdale on Tournament difficulty. I had to work my ass off for it too. 26 total putts, 71% FIR & 56% GIR. It's definitely early but this could be my favorite TW game.

Despite the ups and downs of this preview, I must say that I do enjoy more my pump fists much more than my share of frustration while putting, although on the Kinect is a much better experience for me.

Same here.....a few niggling issues here and there, but overall a fun experience for me.10spro wrote:Despite the ups and downs of this preview, I must say that I do enjoy more my pump fists much more than my share of frustration while putting, although on the Kinect is a much better experience for me.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I set up a Daily Tournament in the Digital Sportspage Clubhouse. It's tournament difficulty, but I set up blue tees and pretty average conditions at Royal Birkdale. I also think controller and Kinect players can play in it.
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I was frustrated with the gameplay with my created pro on Saturday, ready to cancel my preorder but then played a couple of rounds with the real golfers and the experience was better, I realized that I am just going to have to take my lumps with my created golfer until the attributes are all built up.
In my career last night, I had +6 going into the final hole at Pebble Beach in an amateur tournament; good enough for 1st place with a 3-stroke lead and then proceeded to hit consecutive shots into the water and ended up maxing out the shots for the 18th hole and finishing in 4th place. Next tournament at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island I completely fell apart and shot a +28.

I did not have a standing pre-order, but I went ahead and placed one with Amazon yesterday. I haven't had a golf game in a while, so why not.
I still have my ups and downs in this game, but now I feel like I now what I'm doing. I've still only had that one round under par, and in my career on the nationwide tour, I have one tourney victory and 4 missed cuts. That's okay though.
As for shot accuracy, I find to get the needed force 95%+shot power requires a controller snap that does make me miss fairways or shoot wide of greens. My last few rounds I've been hitting around 70% of the fairways, which I like. Of course you can club-up on approach shots and swing slower, but when you're facing 485-yard par 4s, you can't limp around them with a ~240 drive and ~200 yard 3 wood.
Also, I think I've discovered the simplest method for putting. Aim where you want your putt to go, then move the marker in towards you several feet or more. Then, when striking the ball, just take a swing like you're hitting a short iron or pitching with little or no pause at the end of your backswing. You'll get a fast over-swing, and your shot will go well past your aiming marker, but if you've put that shot target sufficiently short, your putt will travel the right distance. If your backswing gets too big or too slow, the game won't let you hit the ball anyway too.

Still playing the demo (taking advantage of the 40% trade in bonus at Best Buy tomorrow). I put it on tournament mode and I keep hitting the ball left (hook for me). I've tried everything I can think of to correct that but to no avail. Is it that I'm not lining up correctly or something?
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
The swing analyzer (lower left) shows your swing path after every shot. You're either pulling back crooked, or more likely, following through off to the left.fsquid wrote:Still playing the demo (taking advantage of the 40% trade in bonus at Best Buy tomorrow). I guess I didn't notice that for whatever reason the last few nights. Is that there in tournament mode? Either way, I"ll be on the practice range on Tuesday!
Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
It's still there in tournament mode. Btw, when people say practice range, does this game actually have a practice range? I've just played a round with mulligans and keep taking mulligans over and over to practice certain kinds of shots.fsquid wrote:I guess I didn't notice that for whatever reason the last few nights. If you ordered the collector's edition you get to practice at Augusta Nationals practice facility.Naples39 wrote:It's still there in tournament mode. Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
Aside from getting used to the swing mechanics which is a steep learning curve.
Was screwing around with the Career mode playing at Royal Birkdale and hit almost all the fairways. Do they put the game on rookie and then bump up the career mode late on when you have certain attributes. The only problem I had was club distance but if you consistently under swing but club up, you shouldn't have a problem with this. I really only missed greens long or short but never to the left or to the right.

Shot -11 under in the first AM tourny with my newly created golfer. Still have the occasional double or triple bogey hole if I have a bad mishit into the rough or hit a bad putt. Have been playing strictly Tournament difficulty.
Really liking the feel/touch it takes around the greens though. I do not have a kinect so this is all with the controller.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
Is there a tutorial that explains what you are supposed to be trying to do, for either the controller or the Kinect? I don't mean the tutorials in game, they seem pretty worthless, but something that explains in detail what you should strive for on a drive, chip, putt, etc.? Also, those of you using the Kinect, what am I missing? I had this set at the hardest difficulty and I can hit it straight and long every time. Of course I was using Fowler so maybe that is why, but there seemed to be no skill whatsoever to it. I just seems like a complete gimmick to me. I feel no connection to what I do with my swing and what happens in game. However, since I don't completely understand what I am supposed to be doing, it could be that it just hasn't "clicked" for me. Even putting does not seem that hard, but again I dont understand at all how to aim, what changing my stance does, etc. I am glad that I did the EA Season Ticket as at least I can now see that this is just not the game for me. Why oh why can't we get a decent TrueSwing golf game on the PC again? What was the point of TigerWoods Online?

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I have been playing the hell out of the 3 day early trial. I am currently on the second tourney on the Nationwide series. I did win the first tourney at Kiawah Island with a -20 something on tourney difficulty with no aids/pins/green grid. THe conditions were very easy though with no wind, easy-medium pins. I have the AI scoring set to Hard.
I do like the game but like others have said its just to easy to hit a driver straight. There has to be something that can fix this. I would even take random landings at this point because hitting every fairway takes something out of the game. I do enjoy the short game lots more now and that is actually the most challenging part. I do like that you can really read the greens this year and get an idea of how its going to break. I have felt an acomplishment after making a few 30' putts that had some good break in them.
Is anyone else making lots of pitch/chip ins?? I have made 7 or 8 to date from 50yds in. Probably just getting very lucky.
I played a couple of H2H matches for our OCC. First one was a match play where the guy supposedly was disconnected. I did notice that you cant concede a hole though. That needs to be fixed. The other match was a 4player stroke play which of course led to one guy quitting but the others toughted it out. Didnt play that great but was able to get a win with a +2 at Beth Page with breezy conditions/hard pins/ fast conditions.
Anyone playing tonight or want to get in some matches??

I have twice using Kinect on hardest difficulty. Both times the game completely locked up on me, seemingly as it was trying to do some kind of cut scene/replay celebration.orthostud23 wrote:....Is anyone else making lots of pitch/chip ins?? I will try to be online. If you see me just send an invite. I played Merace a couple nights ago and had a blast. I like playing online even if I do get curb stomped occasionally.orthostud23 wrote:Anyone playing tonight or want to get in some matches??

I did that daily bethpage tourney. Saw you on top of the leaderboard at +2. I got +8, noticed J Cauthen at +16 I think. I guess isn't too easy if everyone was over par.orthostud23 wrote:I have been playing the hell out of the 3 day early trial. I am currently on the second tourney on the Nationwide series. When I play, it's not unusual to string together a few good drives or approaches, but a double or triple bogey is a constant threat.

Re: Tiger Woods 13 PGA TOUR and CE Info
I just finished the OCC daily tourney at +6 or +7. I was cruising along and then lost my putter on hole #6 and never did seem to find it again after that.
I certainly don't hit all of the fairways and a wild duckhook left is never out of the realm of possibility with me. Not sure if it's my controller, how I hold the controller, or if I just suck. I mean, yes I do hit most of the fairways, but I can certainly pull a wild one off to the left every now and again too.
I love the chipping, it's my favorite part of the game.
Putting though, ooph. I can't get a feel for it and as witnessed on a hole or two in the OCC daily, I can turn a 8-10 foot putt into a 12-15 foot putt coming back.
Fun though, for sure.

One other thing I've noticed. I'm no better, now worse when playing on Tournament difficulty or the easiest difficulty. Wierd.

Bethpage is also a tough golf course in general. Just because you can hit it straight doesn't mean anything because of the distance and greens there.Naples39 wrote:I did that daily bethpage tourney. Which speaks to my point above, that to get the most distance in this game requires a faster motion that leads to inaccuracy.JRod wrote:Bethpage is also a tough golf course in general. Just because you can hit it straight doesn't mean anything because of the distance and greens there.

Ya, sorry my comment wasn't directed at you. Bethpage is just a really tough course and doesn't matter to pros or video game pros. No matter how straight one hits it, real or fake golf, the course demands distance and accuracy.
One unmentioned improvement is you don't have to watch your CPU competitor in the quick match-ups or mini-games. About time!
