Re: Playstation Vita
I have to imagine that 1.2 million units, and that is including Japna's numbers, is not too thrilling for Sony. Hell it sold better here in the US then it did there with so many deals and bundles going on it was crazy. I can't recall another release where you could but 2 get one free on games before the system was even out.
How longs it been out in Japan since December? and they haven't even sold a million units? You have to be drinking some serious kool aid to think that makes anyone happy.
March 6th can't get her fast enough to make me feel good about buying my Vita.

Re: Playstation Vita
The PSP is still very popular in Japan, and Sony has actually been running a separate PSP ad campaign to sell the PSP. Looking at the sales charts the PSP is still selling quite well in Japan. Also, the Japanese are typically not as gung ho on buying handhelds at launch as Americans. Once Monster Hunter comes out on the Vita it will sell like mad. I think given that the PSP is still so popular, changeover to the Vita might be slower. Maybe Sony should have launched the Vita in N. America first.Danimal wrote:

Re: Playstation Vita
PSP games actually sell very well in Japan. Here is the latest software sales (2/20-2/26) in Japan:

Looking over charts over the past year in Japan it's unreal at how well PSP games do in terms of sales. The main point, though, is that the Japanese are still very much all over the PSP as a gaming platform, and it should come as no surprise to analysts that the Vita's sales will take longer to take off. Once Monster Hunter hits the Vita the tide will shift dramatically from the PSP to Vita. Either way, Sony is doing quite well in Japan when it comes to handhelds.

Re: Playstation Vita
Quick question...when does the Playstation Store update? The reason I'm asking is I'm going with the digital download version of The Show and I would love it if I could DL it before work on the 6th so I could mess around with it on my lunch. My PS3 version will arrive later that day but I'd love to get my mitts on the game ASAP. So, anyone know what time it updates?

Re: Playstation Vita
Of course they have a set day for new releases. I believe they update it the night before or early early in the morning. At least that's the way it was on the PSP Go. Obviously things can change. I've got an open wifi network at work, so as long as it releases at some point in the morning, it's gonna be a slow afternoon production wise!Danimal wrote:I wasn't aware they had a set day. And Dan, as far as the PSP, I have one and it was cool in its day. All you have to do is fire up the Vita and the PSP becomes a memory!

I got the case and it's going back. It's cheap thin plastic that doesn't protect the device. One major flaw is that the hinge covers up the game and memory card.Feanor wrote:I don't have a Vita yet, but when I do buy one I think I'll get this Hori Face Cover case on Amazon to go with it. Re: Playstation Vita
VT4 is a perfect fit for the Vita. Man the game looks and plays awesome. Absolutely no jaggies, the computer on "Normal" is competent. I still haven't decided if playing whether playing using the nub or d-pad is better.
I already have about 5 games and if I had to choose one it would be either this or the Show. Looking forward to that one as well.

Completely agree. I've played the hell out of VT since I got my Vita. My only complaint, and perhaps I'm missing something, is that you can't change the match length in World Tour mode which has been my mode of choice most of the time.Rodster wrote:VT4 is a perfect fit for the Vita. Re: Playstation Vita
Tried it out at Target last night. First, seemed the screen was dark. Didn't try to find a way to turn up the brightness. Other than the darkness the graphics looked great, though seems like when it panned around quickly on VT4 replays or just swinging the camera around with the right stick in UC, there seemed to be some blur and something that wasn't smooth. It wasn't stutter but it wasn't exactly smooth either.
VT4, tried a game as Federer, went down 0-40 to Nadal and then I started moving up to the net and won most of the points thereafter, eventually winning 2-0. Nadal tried some lobs but Federer could smash all of them. On service returns, I could move up towards the service line and had no problems returning any serves. I recall the VT demo on the PS3 it was similar, you could just dominate at the net with just about any player.
Tried Little Deviants, couldn't figure it all out and didn't care. Just tapped around the back touch screen until you punched out the monsters out of the various windows.
UC, somehow I chose and played Chapter 4. Didn't know if the demo had earlier chapters. I started climbing out of the prison cell a couple of times, fell off the beam and didn't try again. Looked nice but another level which was outdoors would probably look a lot better than the darkened cell.
Finally tried the FIFA demo, saw the same buttons worked as I remember in the DS3 controls. But definitely tried the back touch and the front touch screen for shots and passes. I like the idea of the touch screen but it would be easier if you went all with real buttons or all with just touch controls, not a mixture of both.
Actually I think it would be better if you could just use the screen and depending on where you touch, it passed (including into open space ahead of your players) or if you touched the goal, it would just shoot towards it. Then presumably the longer you touched a spot on a screen, it would put more power. Imparting spin though would be tricky as well as choosing between a pass/shot in the air or on the pitch. Maybe that is where the shoulder buttons could be used as modifiers or better yet, use multitouch and make 1 finger on the pitch and two-fingers in the air. They could implement something like this for the tablet versions of FIFA.
The touch controls could be more accurate, especially passing into open space, than the physical controls, especially on things like crosses or through balls. I couldn't figure out how to change the camera but the players were too small. It's good to see a lot of the pitch but IIRC, on the console versions, when the ball was along the sidelines, it would zoom in a bit automatically. I couldn't tackle like I'm used to from the console versions either.
There wasn't consistency between how the physical and touch controls were blended together in the different games. Some seemed to require touch to navigate the menus while others seemed to require the buttons. That will probably improve over time. Maybe just have a set of physical or touch controls, maybe be able to turn one set on or off, especially the back touch, which it seems you can tap by accident.
It's not a better experience than the consoles but if you travel a lot, it would be useful. It could also be useful at home too, just have the TV tuned into a game you could play and then pause it if the game gets interesting.
But iPad 3 for me first and then see later if they cut the prices and/or offer more promos.

Have to fully complete the game (was hoping we could save mid game) and then upload the save file to the cloud being one, and the second being you cannot use 3G. What the F? The entire reason I bought the 3G version (well besides the fact it came out a week earlier) was so that I could do that without having to connect to wifi. Sure, it's not that big of a deal from someone like myself who's got the tethering and hacked phone that I can create a hotspot w/ but for a lot of people that are forking over the 15 bucks for the 3G plan that's a slap in the nuts.
Edit, this should probably be discussed in the show thread, not this one. Will copy it there.

Re: Playstation Vita
Can't say enough good things about VT4. It almost feels like you're playing a Top Spin game instead. I put Roddick against Rafa and I was getting schooled for most of the 3 set match. It wasn't until I was faced with match point that I was able to fight back and win 2 games. I fought even harder in the last game before losing 0-6 2-6.
What I found the most fun is watching a virtual Rafa track every ball down. If you tried to beat him on the baseline you lost. It wasn't until you tried and change speeds that you drew him to the net and was able to work him out of position. The CPU plays you hard even on normal settings.
I also like the momentum feature. It's pretty cool when you pull one off. I was also able to get my one and only Ace, felt pretty good even though I got my ass kicked from here to Sunday.

Re: Playstation Vita
Anyone try a PSP game yet? While I know nothing will see playtime once MLB arrives, I'm tempted by NBA2K12. Are the games just horrifically ugly and bad controlling in comparison to the Vita games?

I've played Tiger Woods 10, Gran Tourismo, Madden 10 and GTA China Town and while they aren't very much to look at...they are fun still. Especially Tiger. The only reason I tried those is because I had purchased them when I had my PSP Go back in the day so I could redownload them to my PS3 and then transfer them over. Kinda cool.Sport73 wrote:Anyone try a PSP game yet? While I know nothing will see playtime once MLB arrives, I'm tempted by NBA2K12. Re: Playstation Vita
Between VT4 and GS 2 for the 360 I have my tennis fix. Pro level in VT is definitely more challenging than the pro level while playing career mode in GS2. The difficult progression is just right for a handheld though and the controls are top notch.
Re: Playstation Vita
Had another great game on VT4. I made it more competitive but still lost to Rafa 0-6 3-6. I almost had a chance to win the second set but couldn't make it work.
10's i'm impressed you're playing on Pro. I find NORMAL difficulty has a good enough challenge against the better players. I definitely need to get better but man this game is so much fun on a handheld.
Question, do you guys have a ever so slight i.e. "physical dead zone" on both analog sticks? I've noticed that and I hope they are not going bad already.

Re: Playstation Vita
Whew gotta love the sleep feature. My battery died right in the middle of my match with Rafa which is turning out to be a classic. I charged up the battery and was expecting to have lost my progress. I turned on the Vita and i'm right where I left off. Which was watching the ball sail past me...arggh

Re: Playstation Vita
Just an FYI to anyone who has the First Edition case that came with the bundle. I personally don't like the look, or the size of the case for everyday use, so I checked on eBay to see if anyone was selling theirs to see if there was a market for them. Holy crap...they are going for around $50! So I threw mine up with a Buy It Now of $49 and charged $6 for shipping and sold in one night. So there you have it...guess people REALLY want the First Edition case.

Not reading real favorable impressions of The Show on the Vita yet.
- Graphics are hit or miss, some quite unforgiveable looking
- Ball looks like a beach ball until it is handled by the player
- Quick play takes a lot away from the presentation
- Because of quick play, exciting plays such as homeruns, double plays, etc feel rather meh. Just back to
the game without any commentary.
