If you factor in college sports, hockey isn't even in the top 10. I remember watching games on ESPN when I was a kid and the coverage was outstanding. How did the NHL fall so far? Is it because the games aren't on ESPN and you will rarely see any NHL highlights on Sportscenter? I live in an area where hockey has always been huge, but it just seems like not many people care anymore. Kinda sad when the all star game is hidden on Versus, and there is only one prime time game a week on Nbc.
I watched the skills competition and enjoyed it. The "game" is a mockery. I know it'd be a huge shame for anyone to get injured in an all star exhibition game, but they really should just make all star weekend a skills competition only. The game doesn't mean anything and it's at the pace of some high school games. There's no Pete Rose collision at home plate type moments in the game to really make anyone care. I could have sworn back in the 90s the players actually played hard, but I was still a kid then so it has probably always been this way. It's a sad state of affairs for this great game to be so overshadowed by Neckcar and damn near every other team sport.
You are talking out of your ass. A new Harris poll was released recently. Hockey is actually growing in popularity this decade. Here are the rankings for 2010:
1. NFL
2. MLB
3. NCAA Football
4. Auto racing
5. NBA
6. NHL
7. Men's Soccer
8. NCAA basketball
9. Golf
10. Track and field
11. Bowling
12. Men's tennis
13. Boxing
14. Horse racing
15. Women's tennis
The NHL is actually catching up with the NBA and could be 5th in the next few years. Pretty sure hockey is in the top ten, lol.
They might win out in the long run. ...The NHL is still actually featuring a real sport. Where winners and losers arent dictated by shades of grey in rules and plain straight up cheating with the officiating. The better team usually wins but only if they come to play the ENTIRE game.
The league isnt dominted by rapists, gangbangers and just plain gutless c***. ....BTW those are ESPNs heros. Gotta love ESPN for giving us pure s*** instead of human beings .

Note that the NHL is the second fastest growing sport in the USA from 1985-2010 in terms of popularity, and that is with most of their games on a s*** network like VS.
Cody Hodgson finally made his debut for VAN as the Canucks dressed four rookies in their game against the Stars winning 4-1. I hope Cody stays injury free as the former #1 draft pick for VAN has been suffering from a back injury for a couple of years now. But the injuries woes continue for this team as rookie A. Volpatti suffered a shoulder injury and is sidelined indefinitely.
Hope they can make it to PHO on Wednesday, weather permitting.
Penguins backup goalie Brent Johnson just knocked out Rick Dipietro with one punch at the very end of Penguins shutout win. I was nearly in tears it was so funny.
Are you sure RickyD was grinning? It looked more to me like: "Oh, f*ck, I can't fight. I better prepare to get nailed."
Don't be surprised to see DiPietro on injured reserve this weekend with an injured jaw or hurt feelings. It would only be fitting, considering how many games he's played since Charlie "I Think With My" Wang signed him to that then-monster deal.

That surely looked like a nervous grin to me. In any case, as I posted earlier, Di Pietro's record in net is 2-3 games without an injury... then a week or two off.
'Nucks continue their hot streak, blanking the always dangerous Yotes 6 zip in PHO.

And in other news it has been confirmed that after taking x-rays doctors state that Dipietro is actually made of porcelain.
Meanwhile Roloson has posted 4 shutouts in 11 starts for the Bolts, and the Bolts have won 6 in a row. Thank you Isles for shoring up our goalie situation. Of course every time I make a rare appearance in this thread, Rolly and the Lightning end up getting torched.
There gettin real chippy in Tampa tonite. 3 fights in the 1st period. Rolly gets a roughing minor Don't see goalies getting roughing calls to often. Not going to see the rest of it. Gotta head out to watch our favorite band at the patio bar. Such is the plight of living in Fla. Its a nippy 68% tonite. I know....f#ck off snaz
Entertaining wild game at Rogers arena between Canucks and Hawks. It was a see-saw matchup where the lead changed hands a couple of times with VAN playing catchup. Special teams was key tonight as they contained CHI's lethal PP, especially when they had a 5 on 3 advantage.
Loungo was superb again and the D is about to get healthier finally as Sami Salo was sent to the AHL for conditioning and scores 2 goals for the Manitoba Moose.

It also didn't hurt that the Hawks had a goal that should have counted taken off of the board, the Nucks had a goal count that should have been taken off of the board, and the officiating was the worst I've ever seen in the NHL.
Luongo did have a great game though and the few powerplays the Hawks did have went nowhere quick, including that 5-on-3 for 40+ seconds. It's just frustrating because the Hawks dominated play.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Ehrhoff slap shot looked half an inch offside but I thought the zebras were correct in waving Bolland's goal as Brouwer was called in the crease and interfrence on Luongo. Refs missed a lot of calls last night, not to mention Turco's obvious jab at Kesler's balls but the key for either team were special teams that eventually decided the game.
