Man, I can't put this thing down! I am really enjoying the web browsing. All of the apps load quick as hell. The screen is stunning. I was expecting to enjoy this thing but it has been better than expected. The battery life is sick. I have been on it non stop for almost two hours and it is at 87%! Typing is definitely different but I am not annoyed by it. I have actually had a lot of success typing in portrait mode kinda like I am texting. I hold the ipad like it is my iPhone and it works for me. ABCs app is superb. I hope all the networks come out with similar apps. I haven't really gotten into the iBook app yet but plan on it soon. The MLB AT BAT for the iPad is incredible. Stat nirvana. Audio, video...top notch. It is a superb device.

Two apps that I saw just sold me on the Ipad. The Netflix app and the ABC TV app. I already have Netflix on my 360 and PS3, but the portability of the Ipad makes this possibly the best app on the store. And the ABC app should be great. Now I can watch those episodes of Lost that I missed.
Anyone using these two apps and can you comment on the experience.
So I called the Apple Store a few days ago and they had plenty of all models in stock and I go to pick one up yesterday and they were sold out. So I had to do that in store reserve thing and they will call me when it comes in. The guy said it should be this week. I can't wait.

I'm going on almost a week now, and besides having to print out driving directions and playing a flash game on Facebook, I haven't touched my desktop computer. My wife and kids though are complaining that I'm spending a bit too much time with the Ipad. I suppose it's the conveinence and ease of use that appeals to me. There always seems to be something I want to check real quickly (weather, email, news story) and I'm able to within seconds. I've already used the Ipad in more places in the home than I ever did with the Macbook.Badgun wrote:they e-mailed me and said mine was in, so I picked it up last night, Very impressed so far.
I do have a couple complaints, or shall I say nuisances. The copy and paste feature is not very responsive or simple to pull off. It's definitely easier with a mouse or track pad. Also, for whatever reason, the Ipad locks up when I check one of my personal Hotmail email accounts. I have to shut it off and hope it resets itself.
Other than those two issues, I can't really complain. I'm just as excited about the Ipad as the day I purchased it. I'm hopeful that the new guy Apple hired (former IGN founder) to run the App Store will make browsing for apps simpler and better.
Dan, The fact that my girlfriend (okay, me too) can't play Farmville on the pad is annoying, but Zynga, the developer proved that they can make a non-Flash version of Mafia Wars for the iPhone, so if the pad really takes off, I can see them (and others) making non-Flash equivalents. At least, I hope they do.

Farmville was announced for the Ipad last week actually. Not sure of the release date though.Murph wrote:Dan, The fact that my girlfriend (okay, me too) can't play Farmville on the pad is annoying, but Zynga, the developer proved that they can make a non-Flash version of Mafia Wars for the iPhone, so if the pad really takes off, I can see them (and others) making non-Flash equivalents. Why bother with hotmail? I have a hotmail account that I use primarily for buying stuff online/SPAM, but i have it auto-forwarded to a gmail account, which I set up with the outbound address as my hotmail account. That way I get mail.app access to my hotmail, plus the pleasure of IMAP syncing, but it looks/feels to/for all purposes that I'm using hotmail.sportdan30 wrote:

Count me as the latest sucker, I mean gadget fan to grab the ipad. Was on a family trip to Seattle which is just 3 hours away from Vancouver and ran into an Apple store. Saw the dirty look of my wife so I just attended the free ipad seminar they were giving.
Loved the screen. Tough and smoothly made, and surprisingly you do not need a screen protector which I asked for. Browsing is swift and I am thinking of adding the iworks package.
Feel free to suggest some must apps as I continue to play with my new toy. Wife had a quick smile as she knew I was too weak to wait for the 2nd generation.

Well well, you guys convinced me.
I picked up the 32GB today (after reserving it a few days ago).
The apple store on 5th ave (Manhattan) is insane. Apple is like a cult there, and everyone have an iPhone. Think I am the only person who pulled out a blackberry lol.
This is my first Apple product, ever. So it better be good.
I do find this artifical shortage to be complete BS. At the store, they only have the 64gig model if you did not reserve. So they will sell you the most expensive model unless you wait a few days. WTF. People were buying 2 or 3 of these at a time. Crazy.

The first thing my daughter said was wow a 'Giant iphone'. Very convenient to say the least, for a frequent traveler like myself and for my kid, she now prefers to play her games on the ipad instead of the iphone. Since it's still not released in Canada, my only gripe is that I can't have access to the app store although some of my purchases for the iphone just transfered over her bigger sibling.Diablo25 wrote:I still haven't turned on my laptop since my iPad arrived. Loving it.
I think the shortage is real and not something contrived by Apple. I think Apple knows that they don't need to create demand by controlling supply. Plus they want as big of a market share as soon as possible to get ahead of MS, HP, Google.WillHunting wrote:Well well, you guys convinced me.

Well I'm debating the 3G version. I'll probably get it but I don't know.
If I get it, I'll post impressions tomorrow. Not like much will change. Oh a compass!!

If it is such a shortage, it should take longer than 2 days to fill my reserve.JRod wrote: I think the shortage is real and not something contrived by Apple. Apple knows they can sell as many as they need, but hyping the demand makes the impulse purchase easier (hey, only 64gig is available!).
Companies do this all the time, I remember NES cartridges silicon shortage, I bought plenty of crap games because I thought I would never see them. LOL.

Possibly but there's been widespread reports that they are having problems manufacturing the screens. And they have pushed back the worldwide release date a long with the US 3G release because of these shortages.WillHunting wrote:If it is such a shortage, it should take longer than 2 days to fill my reserve.JRod wrote: I think the shortage is real and not something contrived by Apple. I say they are having a problem with their supply chain its not so much some sinister Steve Jobs and the 1984-police trying to hype up demand.

True. Jobs and his 1984 Thought Police have been too busy the last few days trying to get that stray next-gen iPhone back from Gizmodo.JRod wrote:I say they are having a problem with their supply chain its not so much some sinister Steve Jobs and the 1984-police trying to hype up demand.

You and PK have stated two of the many reasons why I don't buy Apple products.dbdynsty25 wrote:And crafting letters to the world trying to convince people Flash is not important.pk500 wrote:True. Bill Gates is working to eradicate disease throughout the world. Meanwhile, Steve Jobs is bashing Adobe, and his paranoid Apple minions are browbeating a tech blog to return a prototype iPhone that was errantly left in a coffee shop.
So, which dude and which company are Big Brother and the Evil Empire now?

What's even funnier is if MS hadn't loaned Apple several hundred million dollars back in the late 90's there might not be an Apple today.

Don't get carried away. Apple being Apple now is a GREAT thing. Technology has advanced because of them so I definitely don't have any hard or negative feelings toward that aspect. I'm glad Apple is around. It improves Microsofts/Googles/Everyone else's products. The tech world needs Apple and their fanboys.Rodster wrote:What's even funnier is if MS hadn't loaned Apple several hundred million dollars back in the late 90's there might not be an Apple today.
