I didn't really give a crap either way about this, it was fun to joke about, until today.
Having this Presser was just insulting, I am sure he was scared shitless and maybe he even meant what he said. But to me this was nothing more then a way to start rebuilding his image so he can rack in more money.
Also someone please explain to me why it had to be done today? I know he said thanks to the PGA for understanding why he had to do it today but I must of missed the reason.

I'm no Bill Simmons fan, but the dude nailed it with this column:

I love Simmons (his "big book of basketball" is great). I pretty much agree here. Simmons is the only ESPN guy not gushing over the "read statement" today.pk500 wrote:I'm no Bill Simmons fan, but the dude nailed it with this column:

Tiger's caddie says he didn't know about Tiger's man-whoring.

The p0rn star Tiger was having an affair with released text messages from Tiger that are so positively filthy they would have blown the top off of George Costanza's head. Saw them posted on Deadspin and it's amazing how they contrast with Tiger's public image and that he would be stupid enough to have texted things like that.
I have no problem with anyone getting their freak on, and I have no issue with Woods coming back to golf, but it's ridiculous that the official Tiger Woods Public Image Reclamation Project is underway when this guy was (is?) clearly a world class hound. The only thing he's fit to endorse is a public service announcement for STD screening.

I read these as well, and I can't wait to see the reaction when some of his own texts are shouted out to him from the gallery...Brando70 wrote:The p0rn star Tiger was having an affair with released text messages from Tiger that are so positively filthy they would have blown the top off of George Costanza's head. He's lucky he's a golfer and that the greens mafia will escort any rabble from the premises. If he played right field for an MLB team he'd need to wear those Bose noise-canceling headphones for the whole season.webdanzer wrote:I read these as well, and I can't wait to see the reaction when some of his own texts are shouted out to him from the gallery...
Saw the new Nike ad with Tiger starring at the screen in black and white with tiger's father voice over. If this doesn't prove that Tiger is completely phony then I don't know what is. Now to profit out of all this to build your image like this was a needed defining moment in his life is disgusting. He'll probably just win the masters and all will be forgotten.
Ugh Nike, what are you guys thinking? Using Tiger's late father's voice to rescue Junior's mistake won't get you anywhere. The old slogan 'Just do it" has to go too.
Now, let's stick to the Masters. Looking forward to this weekend's event with or without him. Of course Golf needs him badly, and while winning at Augusta maybe the best medicine for his current woes, I just don't see it happening this time. But then again, you'd never want to bet against Tiger when he's in the zone.

It's Tiger. Has anyone believed his chastened words at the two press conferences? Come on.
I'm only shocked he didn't mention his renewed devotion to Buddhism during the press conference Monday -- he forgot that bullet point in the script.
As for Nike, this is pure shock marketing. Nike is good at it. Remember the "I am not a role model?" ad with Charles Barkley? That was shock marketing, and it worked. Everyone talked about it, just like they are with this ad.
And do you think Nike sales will drop because of this ad? Heh-heh.
Nike knows no shame because it's not in the morality business. It's in the shoe and apparel business.

Don't get me wrong, most golf aficionados are excited that he's back. The sport really needs him back badly. Not even the glory days of Jack and Arnold brought such interest in golf as Tiger did.lexbur wrote:I might be in the minority but I'm glad he's back. I was a huge Tiger fan before all this broke, and was really disappointed, but I'm over it now, time to move on.

Indeed. Squidly is right, too: It's all about the Benjamins.wco81 wrote:Especially given their shoe manufacturing practices and history.pk500 wrote:Nike knows no shame because it's not in the morality business. It's in the shoe and apparel business.

A company like Google can try to adhere to some principles and still make a lot of money. They may be sacrificing a lot of potential growth in China, while every other company rushes in but ignores the persecution, the Cold War-style censorship, the oppression of Tibet, etc.
Nike not only lacks any qualms about these issues, they embraced the whole cheap labor, no labor standards model, in fact pioneered it.
They'd be running commercials about how their products empowered the female athlete while at the same time, exploiting women in their East Asian factories.

Is it wrong that I'd love to see Carl Spackler cut Tiger's Achilles? Honestly, I'd rather play golf with Judge Smeils than this phony scumbag.
I'll retract that if he ever really repents. It's just I suspect that he's more sorry about the hit to his public image and pocketbook than for his actual actions.
