How the f*ck can you agree with a review of a game you haven't even played? And if you really do hate to see the 2k8 vs. The Show, why the hell do you extend it with ridiculous statements like the one above?macsomjrr wrote:Hate to see this continue to be a 2K8 vs. The Show thread but I've got to agree with much of what was said in that review (G4TV).

And I love the G4 conclusion:
So which is? In the 2nd sentence they claim they fixed the issues with 07...but in the last sentence, it's the same as last year. Morons.Last year’s game felt a little bit rushed. MLB 08 The Show improves on some of the problems apparent in last years version while updating the gameplay to make the experience more realistic. It’s an exact baseball sim. You can’t just swing away at every pitch and expect to get on base. The game is the pretty much the same as last year, but with a more updated roster. If you purchased last year’s title, this game is not worth forking over another 60 bucks for the same experience.
Yes, but it doesn't move the OF back on power hitters all the time.. in fact, I think it plays them at med depth on every hitter.JackB1 wrote:How so? Doesn't the game "auto shift" your defense for DP situations, infield in, etc? Or are you referring to shifting for pull hitters, etc.MizzouRah wrote:Boy, shifting your defense really makes a difference.
It might just be me, but the powder blue Royals jerseys look great in the game.

That's cool man. I had no idea you were joking. I really hope you enjoy the game.JackB1 wrote:But Jack, you DO know who I am. I didn't mean to offend you or anyone here. The IGN thing was sarcasm or a jokeJackDog wrote:
Thanks for the IGN comparison.Jesus man, if I didn't know who you were I would be calling you a troll. This post sounds like a 6 year old throwing a temper tantrum. Our impressions are what we feel. Nobody here owes you anymore than that. If you enoy the game, great! A lot of us don't.
Of course there is no comparison between this place and IGN. Thats why we hang out here and not there. My point was that it was unusual just to see that many posts here that say "this game sucks" or "it plays like ass", without any valid reasons behind them. Nobody owes anyone anything here, but if you are just going to say "this game sucks" then why bother saying anything at all? The whole point of a "discussion board" is "discussion", isn't it?
I lot of us don't have more than one console and are "stuck" with MLB2K8 if we want a baseball game this year and I was trying to figure out why everyone wasn't liking it. I don't have it yet, so I dont know if I "enjoy it"
yet. I guess I will just wait for my gamefly copy to come and go from there. For those that offered detailed responses..thanks! I really appreciate it.

Enough 2k vs The Show BS.. this IS the 2k8 thread for pete's sake!
I've been home for the last 3 days sick and I really have put in a lot of time with this game today. First impressions are the opposite of last year for me, but after playing many games, 2k8 kills 2k7 in every faucet of gameplay.
Take the manual and flush it down the toliet, they must have written that up before actually making the game this year. The in game tips/tutorials are your friends! Study them!!!
Swing stick 2.0, I love it! just before the pitch, pull back - from there forward swings the bat straight, RS to the left and you can attempt to pull one, to the right and attempt one down the line, opposite field (rh hitter), in between.. you get it. I've had hits all over the place now that I understand what I'm freaking doing.
The only bad thing is , I don't strike out much at all. Hopefully a slider thing.. but damn do hits FINALLY feel realistic with the 2k series!
I love when I have a reliever warming up in the pen, as soon as he's warm, I get a chime and a pop up telling me so! I love all the different throws that are made, very few are perfect. I love the fact I can pitch 4 shutout innings with Wainwright and I'm working the new pitching system with perfection, then BAM! just like that give up 3 runs as I get over confident and I'm not making perfect pitches anymore. I also love it when I forget to call off my LF and he runs into me as the ball drops between us. Everything is quick thinking in this game and I like that.
You all know I hate walks in a video game, that's just me and on Pro, I'm getting fun games. Just lost to Oakland 6-3, they had 11 hits, I had 8, they also had an error on a pb that allowed me to advance to first base and keep a drive alive. The game is fun, very far from being perfect, but very fun for me.
Some of the presentation gets cutoff and I wish they would have smoothed those out a bit, but for a 9 inning game of baseball, I will NEVER go back to 2k7, not in a million years.
There are some neat things like watching the camera pan after an inning in New York.. it goes past the subway and climbs over the top of the stadium as you can see the players tossing the ball around as the next inning is about to start. VERY COOL
I'm babbling...... once the rosters come out after opening day, I'm ready to start a franchise!

I agree with Mizz, this game is a definite upgrade to 2K7. At first I was so-so, I mean I liked it, but I didn't know if it was that much different than 2K7 with a few new features. But after playing many games, I'm getting great games of baseball; the hit variety is better, the pitching and fielding feel more natural than just pressing buttons, and I like the card collecting thing (didn't EA's game have a similar feature?) Plus having the minor league teams is very cool also.
I will go back to 2K7 at some point, just to see how big of a difference it is. But so far I'm very happy with it. Unlike DB, who is happy with nothing.

2k7's hitting was atrocious! Even Brinkman said the results were more tied to the hitter than your swing.Gurantsu wrote:I agree with Mizz, this game is a definite upgrade to 2K7. I've seen hits down the line, in the gap... and so far NEVER a gapper that was a single. Everything that should be a double is, and I've also had 2 triples and have had 2 or s3 against me, especially when Duncan's slow ass if after the ball.

Nice impressions MizzouRah. are you seeing many extra base hits from the cpu? I wasn't so I lowered the human outfielder reaction speed and overall speed along with increasing the cpu running aggression and the cpu is now getting extra base hits. I'm still getting to the bals that I should with the Cubs outfield, but its nice to the cpu being aggressive on the basepaths.

First off, guys keep it in check. You know who you are.
Secondly, my GF copy arrived today and I played a game. It was much better than the demo but it falls short of the competition in several ways. I like the new pitching but it didn't lead to more balls or deeper counts for me. I gave up a bunch of solo shots in the game and lost 8-3. 3 of the cpu's HR's came in the first inning when I didn't know how to pitch yet.
I'll say this, if I didn't have a PS3 I think I could definitely make due with 2k8 but since I do it makes 2k8 seem a little worse than it probably is.

I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

I'm still on Pro defaults and yes, the CPU hits me for doubles, triples, and HR's so far.
As far as pitch counts are concerned, for those who want walks and 14 pitch at bats, slider tweaks will definitely need to be done. I like swinging and hitting, so again.. doesn't bother me.

I think it's a good but not great game. If I just had a 360, I would be fine playing 2k8. But after playing The Show, it's hard to go back to 2k8.

I've been playing the demo trying to get the hang of the new pitching interface and i'm still getting rocked. I'm jealous with you guys who have figured it out so quickly.
The one cool feature is the throwing meter, very cool. The batting interface has been improved as well but like others have said when you compare it to MLB 08 that's when MLB2K8 starts to show it's warts.
The presentation, AI decisions, branching animations, presentations and general gameplay has to go to MLB 08. It's really tough playing this game when it's compared to The Show. But on it's own it can be a pretty good and fun baseball game.

I still have a PS2 and prefer the Show(and PSP) to this on the 360. But hey, at least the jerseys don't flap like theres a full gale wind blowing.MizzouRah wrote:Honestly Dan, I don't think this game will keep you away from The Show.sportdan30 wrote:Are they fixing the PS3 frame rate issue as well, or are they half a**ing it?TheGamer wrote:the game shouldn't have been released with the framerate issue, but kudos to 2k for letting us know they are working on it and trying to get a patch out as soon as possible.

I'm liking it for what it is, but if I had a ps3, I'd be playing The Show.

Just lost to Colorado 5-3, they had 10 hits, I had 6 and an error when I was going for the DP and made a horrible throw to Pujols on the relay. We each had 2 homers and as much as I tried to stay away from Holliday, he finally beat for a smash into my bullpen.
I can't tell you how much I love the swing stick though, saw a high inside pitch coming to Chris Duncan and I instantly knew to push the RS up and to the right and absolutely crushed into the RF seats. Kind of felt like scoring a goal in NHL 08.

You have to know when your pitcher doesn't have it anymore or a harmless looking inning can turn into disaster, trust me.
The good thing is, this game is actually very good in many areas and at least my thoughts of a ps3/Show purchase has finally left me. Not that I would love to play The Show on a regular basis mind you, but I'm still happy with my 360 - too many great games in my rotation at this moment.
My TV has shipped though!!! Can't wait to see this game on the new 46".
Hell, I rented the game from BB and want my money back.
