You knew Erik Johnson was good when he led WJC's in scoring as a defensemen.

Also seemed kinda strange to me that Doug Weight accepted this trade. I wonder how the Blues 'forced' him to do it. I love Dougie but as PK said, he doesn't have much left.

Not exactly sure how they did it but whatever they did, Weight is not a happy camper about having to leave. His own quote was that he wouldn't leave town slinging any mudd but he's going to make sure his former teammates know what happened. He also said that he's a professional and he'll go play hard for the Ducks. Alot of this is Andy Murray related most likely.
Anyway Doug should be real fired up for any games left between the Ducks and Blues....something tells me that he'd really like to stick it to us!
Andy McDonald though....damn...i'm excited. He appears to be the perfect fit for this team.

JD and Murray are doing the right thing for this franchise, steering it into a very exciting direction.

Dougie is a great guy, one of my faves when he was on the Oil. But his better days are behind him. A McDonald-for-Weight trade in 2007 is a no-brainer, even one I would make in Eastside Hockey Manager. :)

Any defenseman who plays against a line with Kariya and Andy Mac better use skates equipped with ThermaBlades, those new heated skate blades that supposedly increase speed. :)

Take care,
PK

Just got the sports tier from Comcast for 12 months at $1.99/month. The NFL network is the flagship for the tier but the NHL Channel came with it - I am pumped :)

Ugh, I wish Verizon FiOS would acquire the NHL Channel.

I just got the NHL Network on a sports tier through TimeWarner today for an extra $1.95 per month. I get the NHL Network, Fuel, the Outdoor Channel, NBA TV, a handful of Fox regional sports networks and the Tennis Channel for an extra two bones per month.

Tough to beat that. I would have paid $10 per month for the NHL Network alone. It was activated immediately when I called, and footage of Denis Savard doing a spin-o-rama in the the 80s with the Blackhawks was on my screen.

It was love at first sight. :) I'm f*cking digging it.

Take care,

Did anyone see Chris Simon stomp Jarkko Ruutu's ankle tonight in the Pens-Isles game? The play was over, he skated over to him next to the bench, tripped him, then stomped on the back of his ankle with his skate. I was watching the Islanders broadcast and even they were totally disgusted by his actions, that could have led to a career ending injury. Here is a youtube clip of the play:

They just showed it on HNIC here. I think he should be gone for the rest of the year, if not more.

What the hell was Simon thinking? What would he have done if his foot slipped and hit his flesh?

It wouldn't bother me to see Chris Simon banned for life, actually.

Was that the Dennis Savard special they had on at 3pm yesterday? Some of his goals were unbelievably good and his skating ability was amazing.

I pay $5 a month to Comcast for the NHL Network, the NHL Network, Fox Soccer Channel and Gol TV and it's money extremely well spent.

Simon is a total putz. You'd think he would've learned his lesson after his 25 game suspension last year. In and of itself I would give maybe 10 games for that, but given his recent record and this being the very definition of 'non-hockey play,' wouldn't be surprised to see the NHL come down really hard a la boulerice and downie.

Agreed.

While the NHL is at it, can it also have P.J. Stock banned from HNIC telecasts for the rest of the year? He is horrible -- brings nothing to the telecast other than irritation of viewers.

It's a shame Ron MacLean and Scott Morrison are being dragged down by this clown, who can't put together two coherent thoughts to save his life.

Stock must have compromising pictures of an HNIC host or producer. I simply can't explain his presence otherwise. He's TERRIBLE.

Simon leaves NYI and takes a leave from the game. Hope he gets some serious anger management courses and counseling.

This is a blatant PR move by the Islanders to try and get Simon's suspension from the NHL reduced. I hope Colie Campbell doesn't buy it.

Maybe so. Anything short of the remainder of the season for this goon, and the NHL would have failed again in the discipline department.

The league has suspended Simon for 30 games and they think it's harsh for a repeat offender like Chris. Weak, he should have been gone for the remainder of the season.

Do I hear the sound of Colie Campbell slapping Simon's wrists? The sound is so weak, so faint, that I'm having trouble hearing it.

Before last nights Penguins game they mentioned that the NHL is thinking of doing an outdoor game every year and next seasons game may be the Penguins playing the Flyers in Beaver Stadium.

I sure hope that doesn't happen. The novelty factor of the outdoor game would evaporate after a couple of years of annual games, and the new fan or passive fan -- who will watch the outdoor game Jan. 1 from Buffalo -- won't tune in.

These games should be done every few years, not every year. And they DEFINITELY should be done in cold-weather markets like Canadian cities, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Boston, Chicago, Minnesota and Colorado, not in Sun Belt NHL cities.

The entire point is that the outdoor games are an ode to pond hockey, and a marketing gimmick. I doubt there's much shinny played in Anaheim, Phoenix or Atlanta.

I don't think there's anyone pushing to get outdoor NHL hockey down in the sunbelt. o_O

If the game takes place every year, then you know those cities will want a piece of the action, including the larger gate receipts and percentage of special merchandise sales.

Sheldon Souray was quoted saying 'I find myself scoreboard watching everyday in the NW division'. Yeah, welcome to the ultra-competitive NW division man. You look at the standings today and all teams in that division are in the playoff hunt and EDM just peaking behind. The only other division worth mentioning is the Atlantic, but as it's been every year, the tough competition starts in the NW.

Yep, welcome to the NW, Sheldon: There are no cupcakes, no off nights.

Still, the division with the biggest transformation this season is the Central, no question. Detroit is the best team in hockey, yet it already has lost more inter-division games than last season.

The resurgence of Chicago and St. Louis, and the emergence of Columbus is good for the division and the NHL.

Some people highlight the parity of the NFL -- well, parity at least before this season with the Pats and Dolphins at opposite ends of the spectrum. Yet there is no professional league with more parity than the NHL. Three of the six divisions have a gap of 10 points or less between first and last.

There's only one great team -- Detroit -- and really no horrible teams a la the Dolphins. The Kings and Caps are struggling, but they're not terrible.

Take care,
PK

The NHL Network is showing the World Junior Tournament in the U.S. B*tchin'!

Can't wait to get a good look at Tavares.

Crosby finally fought tonight, and handled himself very well against Andrew Ference.
