I miss that guy alot. It was always cool seeing him around LA, secret gigs, all that stuff. Not sure if I even want to listen to New Moon yet - the whole thing still bums me out...TheHiddenTrack wrote:I recommend giving Elliott Smith's New Moon a listen. It's a great double-album full of songs with him and his guitar. I think it's going to be one of the best things released this year, but I'll admit I'm a big fan and may be a little biased.
I've been playing this a lot over the past week. At first it didn't do much for me, but the CD really grew on me with repeated listenings. Musically, it's really terrific. They have a great heavier sound without the overbearing distortion of Vapor Trails. They also sound much more together in their playing than on that record. My only criticism is some of the lyrics -- a bit too much of the persuasive essay for comp class feeling that plagued Test for Echo. But it rocks hard enough that I don't really notice.Leebo33 wrote:Is it just me or does anyone else think the new Rush album is really good?
Any of you ever listen to The F-cking Champs? I heard some of their stuff on MySpace and decided to pick up their newest album, VI. It's really good short (usually) bursts of instrumental prog-metal. The biggest problem I have with modern metal bands are the Cookie Monster vocals, and because this is all instrumental, I can just focus on the music. It reminds me of old Metallica instrumentals with some Iron Maiden dual guitar work here and there. Good stuff.

This one hit me completely from left field, but Ian Hunter's new record, "Shrunken Heads," is superb. Yes, that Ian Hunter, from the Mott the Hoople. Yes, that Ian Hunter, who is now in his late 60s.
The album features some excellent straightforward rock and roll with some real kick. It also has some fine guest vocals from Jeff Tweedy and Hunter's biting lyrics that are pretty political and take some well-deserved, very accurate shots at how f*cked up "the system" is in the USA these days.
A really, really good album. I never saw this one coming.
Take care,
PK

Yeah I bet! Not the greatest choice for a single IMO. Great record though.Jimmydeicide wrote:I listen to Satelite radio at work and when that song comes on you should see the looks i get , makes me laugh i like it reminds me of Flaming lips ish.greggsand wrote:Most of vocs have heavy effects on it. Wow, been listening to the new White Stripes record (icky thump) - SMOKING! I got kinda bored with the last 2 records, but this is way more ROCK ROCK ROCK. Makes me happy that Jack is trying to right-the-ship... Just too bad the only way I can see them is in giant venues these days.
Ps-Heard a few tracks from Ryan Adam's Easy Tiger. Same old Same old.

Got my mitts on the entire new Ryan Adams album, "Easy Tiger," last night. You're right, Gregg: Same old.greggsand wrote:Ps-Heard a few tracks from Ryan Adam's Easy Tiger. Same old Same old.
If you love Adams, you'll like this album. If you like Adams (as I do), you'll find it pretty boring, asking yourself, "Didn't this album come out last year, or in 2003?" If you're ambivalent about Adams, this album won't convert you.
Let's face it: Ryan Adams was a lot more interesting when he was on drugs.

Take care,
PK

The National will be streamed live from D.C. tonight on NPR's Web site:

Halfway through 2007, The National's "Boxer" is my album of the year.
Take care,
PK

True dat, double true. I've heard the whole thing now, too. Yeah, it's a snooze-fest. I liked him better when he's half-crazy.pk500 wrote:Got my mitts on the entire new Ryan Adams album, "Easy Tiger," last night. I read an interview with him where he said he stopped drinking Whiskey. The next album after this: Gold. Someone send him a case of Beam - STAT.
The new White Stripes, on the other hand, is familiar, yet pretty awesome. Your results may vary...

"You Are My Face" is in a VW ad? UGH!
The prettiest song of the year by any band is being used to shill cars?
Double UGH! At least VW ads usually are clever.
Glad you're digging the record. It's superb, right behind The National's "Boxer" as my album of the half-year.
Take care,
PK
