The Ferraris are awesome to drive. I've always been partial to Lambos, but in GT5 I enjoy driving the Ferrari cars more.Rodster wrote:I've been buying several Ferrari premium cars with the credits i've earned from the challenges.

I've been enjoying this game more but only for the challenges and hot laps. So far everything else just bores me about the game. While the AI isn't the same as in previous GT games they do seem very predictable and at times too slow, maybe that will change as I progress. I've also seen the lemming effect on the AI's part where they all make the same mistake at the place for the entire race. So yes the bumper car effect has been toned down but I feel like i'm taking part in a Ridge Racer event with souped up physics.
The only time I felt the AI real racy was at Nurburgring in the Nascar challenge. That was the most fun I had racing the AI.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
I'm looking forward to and waiting for the next round of challenges to pad my wallet so I can go buy some more premium cars. One thing I do like the way the game was setup is that it autosaves frequently so it makes you think so I or shouldn't I before I press the Buy button?

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
I think what he should work on is a game that doesn't take more than 7GB of disk space, doesn't take more than 20-30 seconds between screen loads after you install 7GB of data on your hard drive, doesn't have standard cars that look like it belonged in a game that was made 10 years ago.
Has anyone tried the new challenges? Man they got cheap with all the credits recently. Fortunately I had the cars to complete all but one of the new challenges. I don't have enough to buy any of the F1 Ferrari's.

All he is saying is he wants to see a game in general with that theme since other forms of entertainment have explored that concept. He's not saying a racing game. You must have misread the article.Though he’s known specifically for games focused on auto racing, Yamauchi said he has a much bolder vision for a type of game he wants to see the industry produce.
“It would make me happy to see a game that really makes you think about how a person should live and how they should come to terms with death,” he said.
“This theme is something that’s already explored in other forms of entertainment, whether it be music, movies or literature. It’s really a dream that I have, but obviously someone here can make it as well.”

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
I wish they would fix the load times first and foremost. I've shelved the game because I just can't handle it anymore. The world in TDU2 is so much bigger overall and the load times are so much better. Makes no sense.
Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
This is the first time I have ever played a GT game after 2 months. I downloaded the 300MB patch and thankfully they removed the annoying HDD screen prompt. The game takes about the same amount of time to load, still annoying for a game that almost sits entirely on your hard drive.
New challenges were added, don't know what they were referring to when they said they would cut down on excessive driving and cheating during challenges. I nailed a car by mistake and was not penalized during a challenge last night.
I was always trying to figure out what the museum cards were all about. Once I figured that out I think it's pretty cool all the pictures of cars from the different mfgs. Last night for the first time got paint colors awarded, don't know if that was from the new update or not.
Overall I seem to put up with the games annoyances and i'm still playing it, which says a lot because typically it would have been shelved a long time ago.

No, it was that I couldn't get back my $45 videogame credit from Amazon if I had cancelled my GT5 preorder. I'm just putting up with it now. Some parts of the game are good and other parts, not so good.XXXIV wrote:That eight year wait was worth it!

Unloaded my copy for $36.75 in Amazon store credit. I got worn out with all the load times.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
So does that leave me as the only one still playing this game? Although with The Show coming out next week I'm sure my GT5 will start collecting dust.
Last weekend I did the four-hour Nurburgring endurance race for the second time. The first time I lost by 16 friggin' seconds using the Nismo 380RS Super Leggera. It was an AWESOME race though.
The second time I used the Lexus IS-F Racing Concept and won by about a minute.
I'll probably try it again with that Nismo this weekend. One last hoorah before The Show comes out I guess.
I'm one of those wierdos that actually enjoys the endurance races, and trying to do them with cars that will make for a challenging race, even if it means losing once in a while. Get a couple guys together on a Friday night, get a pizza, take turns doing "stints", see who can get the best lap time, it's a good time.
But even I won't touch the 9-hour and 24-hour races. I'd love to if you could quit and save during them. I hope they change that in one of their updates.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
Nope. I still dig it, I think I am at around level 22, the loading time is a bit annoying but not to the point where it takes the fun out of getting better cars, getting more $$$ and trying to beat the challenges. The PS3 will have GT5, Killzone 3 and the Show in my rotation.lexbur wrote:So does that leave me as the only one still playing this game? Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
I don't see how you guys can put up with the load times. I tried...tried real hard for a few weeks and got fairly far, but ultimately, as soon as games like Test Drive Unlimited 2 came out it was shelved. They do a much better job with the loading times even though they are perfect either. At least in the early part of GT5 you're waiting more than you're racing. That's a problem.
Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
I'm still playing GT5 a lot. The Season events have been a lot of fun for me and PD keeps releasing a lot of them. The last couple patches improved things. I especially like the way they put a check by cars in the car lots that you already own. Now I don't have to keep a spreadsheet of the cars I buy. I'm up to around 800 cars and the spreadsheet thing was getting tedious. The addition of all the new tuning options was also welcomed. The improvement of the AI they made was not completely necessary, but every little thing each patch does seems to be positive. PD is doing a great job IMO of continuing to improve the game and add content.

Great news from Kaz...

This update is supposedly going to be quite substantial. I'll be interested to see how many new cars and tracks will be added in the update and subsequent DLC. I'm still playing the game a lot each week due mainly to the seasonals. The main thing I would like to see added is in-race saves for the endurance events.

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
Some of the specifics of the upcoming large update coming next week were released. Very glad that in-race saves are included in the update. I will now be able to do a 24-hour race, lol. I'll be interested to see exactly what the improved AI and physics turn out to be.
Simplified interior view added to all standard cars
User control of the weather change feature
Added a setting sheet feature allowing you to save multiple car settings
Spec 2.0 opening movie
Improved UI response and usability
Replay fast forward/rewind
Mid-race save feature for endurance races
Expanded online lounge features (Narrowing down car types, shuffle races)
Expansion of the B-Spec remote race you can play from gran-turismo.com (a graph display now shows changes in race rankings)
Expanded Photo travel features (you can now take photos of cars together with your avatar)
Added a "NASCAR Pit Scene" stage to Photo Travel

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
Did they say when this patch will be available and what the size of the patch?
As an aside, one thing I have come to dislike is the PS3 ecosystem. Buy game, wait for install to finish, install patch or patches then play the game. I recently bought ModNation Racer, I was greeted with a 1.1GB patch, then a large install before even starting the game.

Same here. Seemed like it was 1.5-2 hours from putting the disc in and actually playing a game. Good thing I only play exclusives on ps3. It's system does drive me nuts.Rodster wrote:

Get PS+ and all that's done while you sleep, believe me I don't like it either but since I put the bucks down for +. I just turn it on and it tells me what's been updated or patched.Rodster wrote:Did they say when this patch will be available and what the size of the patch?

Re: Gran Turismo 5 - Less than 2 months away now
This game (GT5) is pretty bad when starting from scratch. There are a lot of updates including the 6GB install to the disk. With Modnation Racer I had to cancel the update just so I could at least play the game, only to deal with the initial install.F308GTB wrote:Same here. I have actually come to like the idea of PS+ over XBL and what you get from PS+ but I don't want to pay for it, the same goes for XBL. I'm now on XBL Silver and intend on staying that way.backbreaker wrote:Get PS+ and all that's done while you sleep, believe me I don't like it either but since I put the bucks down for +.
