Can anyone here provide a quick list or a link to what the significant issues are in '10?
haven't played 2010 version, yet. I plan to pick it up.
however, why the big 'head/faces' in all the graphical overlays?? It looks unprofessional. And does not mimic a modern TV-style broadcast
Pete wrote:At this time, I can only come up with one real problem that has nothing to do with gameplay and that is the commentary.
They say things at the wrong time and the wrong situations. Just had the announcer say Bartlett got things going by leading off the game with a HR when he actually hit it his second AB. Things like that.
Doesn't bother me but it does surprise me.
I had a weird commentary glitch the other night. Every time a single was hit the commentator would say the outfielder did a great job playing the ball off the wall and holding him to just a single, even though they were just routine singles that never got anywhere near the wall. It only lasted a couple innings.
As posted today on the MLB: The Show Community Forum by SCEA representative: “We will start working on the next patch when the team comes back from break at the end of the month.”
That's cool, but given the standard narrative for these yearly releases, they should probably take vacation a month after release instead of right after it.
Bad time for them to be taking a vacation. Our internal policay has been to not take off right after putting a change into production, and not to put one in at the end of the day and then leave.
Good to hear that the issues seems to be mainly in franchise. I haven't played much the past few days, so I thought maybe there were bigger things going on. The franchise issues bug me, but I seldom make it though a single season in baseball games, so it shouldn't affect me much.
My favorite things in '10 so far are Target Field and the slider to turn the time between pitches to fast. At least it speeds up the game a little bit.
I really like that you can throw the 8 warmup pitches with the new relief pitcher on the mound - very nice
I also like that Vasgersion seems to have eliminated 'stride' from his vocabulary - it was driving me NUTS last time! "I need to take my dog for a stride; I'm going to stride to the store; that QB was originally a stride-on!"
overall the commentary is still not all that great, and the goof-ball guy (Hudler?) needs to go
Gameplay seems to be smooth and polished - i have played very, very little, but even with Santana I seem to miss my spots occasionally - I gave up 5 walks in my last game, even though I drew none due to my impatience and poor strike zone awareness
new pick-off moves would be a welcome addition to head-to-head play, but I don't know if it's worth trying online with you blokes or not - i want to, though - afternoon shenanigans, Slumber; afternoon shenanigans!
game still takes too long - i miss High Heat
it keeps wanting me to save the rosters, but that scares me - i just downloaded the set last time i played, and then i played a game today - do i really want to save? Did i forget to load the d/l ones? confusing
it's still too hard to pull out of a bunt attempt at the last instant - not very realistic - certainly not a game breaker, though
Zeppo wrote:it's still too hard to pull out of a bunt attempt at the last instant - not very realistic - certainly not a game breaker, though
I agree. Bunting is a mess in this game. One, I can never get down a bunt when I am trying to bunt for a single and two, I can not pull the bat back when squaring to bunt and the pitch is a ball.
Couple questions for you guys more familiar with the game:
1. Why is it that my guys get tired a lot faster than the ai players on the other team? I just finished a 3 game series with the Yankees, and going into game 3 a bunch of my players were getting tired, while the Yankees guys were going strong. The game mentioned that one of my players needed a rest, so I swapped in someone else. Do you have to swap your lineup every game? What does it take to give a guy more energy? If they have 1-2 days without a game will they recharge so to speak?
2. I am playing as Boston since I am a big fan of the team and I really like Fenway. Is Boston unbeatable in this game? I'd feel bad using them if they are too good and it wouldn't be "fair" so to speak. I started off by beating nyy 2 out of 3 and they are considered the best team in the game. I can't use my hometown Twins because their pitching is too weak and I can't stay in games with them due to the fact I've logged a total of 10 games in my life. I am trying to decide if playing a season with Boston is worth it or will I end up being something retarded like 140-22 for the season? I want a challenge but I don't wanna play as a team that I need to bring my A game (Twins) just to have a chance to win by 1 run. What are some good teams for me to look into?
3. The options show there is one to allow ejections. How do you get ejected from a game? I hit A-Rod 3 times in 1 game on purpose and was not thrown out haha.
I started a new season with the Twins. The Red Sox are just too dominant and I am afraid I would have finished with about 50 more wins than losses, and that's not fun. I am a bit concerned though. A few of the starters on the team according to the game will not be opening day starters. Will this be addressed once opening day comes? I am not even online with mine yet. Are most of you guys waiting for opening day to start your seasons?

Most games have difficulty levels, this one included.
Some more weird stuff tonight. Started a game, Rays at Yankees as soon as the game started the Yankees put in defensive replacements for Jeter and Granderson before a pitch was even thrown.

I think there's a lot of bugs in franchise. Heck I think this version is pretty buggy compared with year's past.
Now they aren't in every game but once in a while, it does really kill the flow of a game or franchise. Not kill the game but really dampens the game.

I think overall while MLB 10 adds to previous versions the game at times has transition animation issues just like 2K10. I noticed it when playing in real time presentation. Some of the animation stop/started. It didn't happen all the time but you notice it when the camera follows the player.
Still MLB 10 is the better game but after playing 2K, i'm starting to like the gameplay a little more and not because of the same 'ol same 'ol feeling. I love the batter/pitcher interface more in 2K than The Show.

Playing as the Rays at Fenway, just saw Youkilis' pre at-bat routine. What the hell is he doing? Pretty comical.

Can someone explain "classic" pitching to me? I understand the basics of how it works however; I'm confused with how long you hold down the button. First off, it's a two press button sequence compared to the "meter" pitching, correct? If you hold down the button longer, does that give you better velocity, but accuracy? Or is it all dependent on ratings, and the length of time you hold down the button doesn't matter?
I don't have a problem with the meter, but I find that I'm watching the meter rather than watching the delivery of my pitcher. Plus, I enjoy games with a good pace, and it seems using the meter slows the game down somewhat.
I was thinking that a way to improve the enjoyment of "classic" pitching would be to keep it a two button sequence, but to enhance upon it. The second button press would entail being able to press it at the very moment the ball leaves the pitcher's hand. This would influence accuracy and power. Just a thought.
My understanding of classic pitching is that the longer you press and hold the button the more power your pitcher generates but his accuracy decreases. I don't know if the devs have taken into account pitcher ratings wrt classic pitching.
In the past all MLB pitchers just threw harder and were slightly less accurate. In MLB 10 i'm not so sure as CC Sabathia is a beast whether I just tap or hold the button. Holding the button on his primary pitch gains me about 3-4 mph more on his fastball with little loss of accuracy.

I know, but using the #2 rated team in the game just felt a bit cheap to me. I am off to a 1-1 start with the Twins and having fun. I wish they had some power pitching, though. Sox have the best pitching staff in the game!
One question for you guys. Is there a way to sprint? I've given up 2-3 triples when a ball is hit down the line and my RF can't cut it off before it rolls to the wall and then bounces toward center. I can't take a straight angle at the ball. so I end up running parallel to it and getting it when the guy is rounding 2nd. How can I cut it off better? The announcers always comment that I took a bad line, but if I ran straight towards the ball it would blow by me.
Yeah, give 'em a day off. If what the devs said a couple years ago holds true though, their performance isn't really affected until the green bar gets really low... say, a quarter full.
I once again have no idea what difficulty to play this game at. Trying to figure it out is f*cking annoying.

Was getting to the point where All-Star was too easy, and am now on HoF. It's definitely a challenge and you have to really concentrate more on everything, but I like it.
Definitely not in the mood to start with any sliders, but I don't think you need to for the most part.
Keeping the X button pressed down, let up at three different points of the pitcher's windup to determine velocity.
Slow velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher just starts his leg lift.
Medium velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher is at his max leg lift.
Maximum velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher finishes his leg lift and brings his leg towards the plate.
From the stretch
Slow velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher is in mid lift of his motion.
Medium velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher is in mid stride towards home.
Maxium velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher has planted his foot towards home and is just starting to bring his arm forward to release the pitch.
Note: If you hold the X button through the entire pitcher's motion you will have max velocity and break but you will lose control and the ball will track away from your desired location.
First off I'm not a Franchise or RTTS guy so I feel bad for those of you that enjoy that aspect of this game. I hope the bugs get worked out and you can enjoy the game as much as I do.
I have played "Season" mode for the last couple of years. I've never gotten further than one season in "Franchise" anyway. I never sim games and honestly lost interest in trying to break career records or playing with my farm teams.
I really enjoy going with two teams, one from each league. I play all spring training games and the full season for each team. I handle the rosters based on what happens with the real teams. This year I get to handle all the teams rosters and trades and I really dig that.
I'm playing with the Twins and Reds and loving it so far. I play HOF for batting and Allstar(Meter) for pitching. I have fielding assist on and manual throwing(No Meter). I go with the Medium cams for offense and defense. I haven't touched the sliders.
IMO it's a good step up from 09. Being able to play in all the parks including some classics are just icing on the cake.

I am in the same boat...I rarely play more than a season just because I don't have time to. One team, one season, and then just play some playoff series after that if I've got more time. After 190 games (if I'm lucky), I'm pretty bored of a game anyway, so that's enough for me. I don't care about the RTTS or any of the other fluff really. Maybe I'll try it this year.
Does this game feature teams that can go on a roll, or does momentum not factor into the game? If a team wins 4 straight do your abilities rise a bit, or no?
