Tiger Woods 2010
Moderators: Bill_Abner, ScoopBrady
I've played about 25 holes at Banff and 18 holes of disc golf with the wife.
This is my first TW venture on Wii, and my first reaction was that the graphics were disappointing. Obviously you don't play the Wii to see pretty graphics, but I have been playing TW2004 for PC on my laptop with an integrated video card recently, and even that blows away TW10 on Wii graphically. Oh well.
Menus are nice and attractive, though I will agree that presentation in game is pretty dead. For me personally, that is not a big deal.
As for the swing mechanic, it feels very good. My playtime has not yet been sufficient to evaluate difficulty and ball physics, but the swing feels right and the ball hooks or slices appropriately when it feels like it should in the swing.
I went straight to Advanced difficulty, back tees (with Tiger Woods) and shot a +1 in my first round, though that was mainly because my putting fell apart in the last few holes and I got 4 bogeys in the last 6 holes. When trying to hit it long and straight, I put the ball in the middle of the fairway everytime, but if I was trying to shape my drives and intentionally play a hook or fade then I missed a few fairways. The biggest thing I have to learn is touch on pitching and chipping, and be more consistent putting. Once I get that done, I expect to consistently shoot in the high 60s in this game (using Tiger anyway).
Disc golf was pretty fun and my wife picked that up pretty fast. The throwing motion is very realistic and responsive, though you have to release the trigger to throw much later than you would when throwing a real frisbee. By far the hardest part is controlling your power as you only have three 'clubs'/discs, but I kept making 95%+ throws even when trying to slow it down.
Overall, things seems promising because the swing mechanic simply works the way it's supposed to. My biggest concern, that hitting your shots accurately would be an all-or-nothing proposition where your shots are either perfect or terrible, doesn't seem to be an issue and there are many degrees of hook and fade on your shots. I still need to dig deeper before I'm completely sold as I've been spoiled by playing PC golf in the past (mouse-swing, tons of camera angles that you can easily swap between, great graphics, oodles of courses...etc), but I am looking forward to playing this game some more.

The Wii version sounds fun, but what I'm wondering is if the 360 version is any good? I have a hard time believing with the analog sticks that it's very hard swinging. i.e. straight up and down every time will get you a perfect swing?
Or am I missing something?

They've made it a little more difficult. The 360 version is the only one I have, and I think it's great. I loved 09, and this is basically '09 with new courses, beefed up graphics, and loads more atmosphere (a VERY welcome change), not to mention all the live tournaments, the US Open, all that. I haven't played it much yet, but I've really liked what I've played...Gangrel wrote:The Wii version sounds fun, but what I'm wondering is if the 360 version is any good? Thanks for the input. I'm home sick today, but perhaps a trip to EB may be in order on my way to the drug store..........
I've always thought, to make the analog swing harder, you should have to be able to finnese the actual swing path, not just pull back and forward.
So, your backswing you'd pull back and a little left, then push forward and a little right for that "in to out" path. I think that would be more challenging.....

Can anyone with the 360 version tell me if the game is any harder than last year's version? Can you still hit almost every fairway and green? I know they made the putting mechanic harder (thankfully) but do you ever missishit a drive or approach shot? That has always been my biggest beef with the game.
On a side note, I am so jealous of you Wi guys! It sounds like this game is a blast with the Wi, but I cannot see buying a Wi JUST for this game. I do love golf, it's one of my favorite things to do in real life and it's killing me reading about how great TW on the Wi is and how ordinary it is on the 360!!! AHHHHHHRGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I don't have '10 yet, but I played 9 holes in '08 last night.
One of the problems with '08 (and I think '09 as well) was drives and chipping was too much of an all or nothing result. In situations where you'd want 75% power I'd either end up with 50% or still get close (or over) 100%. There was no in between.
I golf a few times a year, so I know how it should feel to take something off a shot. If TW10 and motion plus fixes that, then I'm pretty much sold.

I had decent success with chips last night with the WMP peripheral. I wasn't a killer by any means, but I wasn't either 5 feet or 20 yards like I was last year in the few holes I tried.
The short game overall felt really good. I struggled with some of the wedge shots, as it takes some really accurate tempo and speed to find that "60%" range. But I really felt like I was playing golf, not playing a game about golf.
Especially the putting. That's impressive stuff, there.

So if you disconnect the WMP, then TW10 plays like TW09, with the midrange and putting not improved?toonarmy wrote:I played TW09 to death, so I knew its strengths and weaknesses inside and out. After playing TW10 I am tickled pink. The mid-range game and putting have both been improved dramatically. The MotionPlus is the real deal. This game is what I was hoping it would be -- an improved 09 with more depth.
I have no idea. I agree about the graphics. 09's graphics did not bother me at all, and 10's are a little bit better than those.Rodster wrote:I just got TW for the Wii and it's amazing. I was pleasantly surprised with the graphics to be honest. Moreso with the greens, sand traps, water, etc. than the player models. But all in all, I was expecting much much worse before I turned it on for the first time. But I can definitely understand being put off by the visuals if they're used to playing on the PC or 360/PS3.Rodster wrote:I just got TW for the Wii and it's amazing. Chalk me up as having fun.
I shot a 72 with Tiger in my first round. Then I went and created a guy and also went into general difficulty and bumped it up so the rough was worse, greens etc and I shot an 88 at Bethpage in the first tourney.
My ball flight has the exact same path as my real shot which is a nice draw so it was kind of cool to see it do that.
I think the putting is excellent and I might go so far as to say it will help my actual putting.
One thing is for sure i won't fall asleep playing this like I did 09 on the 360 because I am always standing up.

Isn't the question how many gamers would want to play that?wco81 wrote:Well if it was realistic, how many average golfers would even break 100 in a PGA course, which challenges even the better pros?
I play golf games for the experience of playing in PGA events not for "practice". What fun would it be to shoot a 120 at Bethpage from the tips?
It's kind of astonishing you can't grasp that concept.
