I don't know...Megyn Price gives her a damn good run for her money. She's on "Rules of Engagement" which is quietly one of the best comedies no one talks about.pk500 wrote:The uber-MILF of recent network TV. Thought the new sitcom Up All Night with Will Arnette and Christina Applegate was pretty funny, enough to keep watching.

I've been hoping for Gob Bluth to get a good show, and it certainly wasn't Running Wilde.Brando70 wrote:Thought the new sitcom Up All Night with Will Arnette and Christina Applegate was pretty funny, enough to keep watching.

I watched Person of Interest (CBS) and Prime Suspect (NBC) on Thursday. Both were very good. I like Maria Bello's character on Prime Suspect. The show was better than expected.

I did not watch Prime Suspect but agreed on POI.Diablo25 wrote:I watched Person of Interest (CBS) and Prime Suspect (NBC) on Thursday. Both were very good. I like Maria Bello's character on Prime Suspect. The show was better than expected.
I took a number of years off from CSI-the original (haven't watched since William Peterson left) but I have to say, Ted Danson is pretty damn good. I know the show has likely run it's course and the it will be off the air sooner rather than later, but his casting in that role has re-energized my enjoyment of the show.
Re: The really great TV thread
yea, the Danson character is interesting to say the least. At least enough to keep watching a bit.
Re: The really great TV thread
I wouldnt say horrible as it did have some laughs but, as was evident with the last few episodes last season, its clearly not going to be the same without Steve Carell. He was perfect at walking that line.jLp vAkEr0 wrote:IMO, The Office is dead.
Ugh... What a horrible start of the season...

Episode 2 of Prime Suspect was very good. I'm gonna stay with it. POI is still on the DVR. Gonna watch it this weekend.

Watched the premier of Terra Nova. The acting is very TV but the concept and plot were pretty cool. It has a lot more depth than Avatar, for example.

The new Ken Burns series on the Prohibition starts this week on PBS. The Daniel Okrent book is amazing, easily the best thing I've read in years. If the series is half as good, it's a must-see.

Thanks for the reminder, added it to the record list.RobVarak wrote:The new Ken Burns series on the Prohibition starts this week on PBS. The Daniel Okrent book is amazing, easily the best thing I've read in years. If the series is half as good, it's a must-see.
Scorcese's documentary on George Harrison airs on HBO this week as well. Looking forward to that one.
Re: The really great TV thread
Getting caught up on some things I recorded. Really liked "2 Broke Girls." The premise is completely unoriginal, but the execution is very good. Sharp writing and at least a few strong laughs in the 3 episodes I watched. Also managed to be a strong female comedy without being excessively girly, kind of like "Bridesmaids."
Really good option if you're looking to watch something with your special lady that doesn't involve dancing c-listers, handing out roses to bim-/himbos, or sweaty fat people being screamed at by a tranny in a sports bra.

Whoa...really Brando? 2 Broke Girls is TERRIBLE. The first two episodes were marginal, but the Last episode had me rolling my eyes the entire time. Just a bad bad show. I told the wife she's on her own with that one...can't watch another episode.
"The New Girl" is a much more entertaining show w/ a female lead IMO. "Whitney" isn't all that bad either...though the laugh track is annoying tho, so I'm sure I'll tire of it as well. "Up All Night" w/ Applegate is pretty good also.

The Ken Burns Prohibition documentary was great. Best TV I've seen in a while. And I guess it goes well with the new season of Boardwalk Empire as the documentary goes into some of the real life characters BE has in it's storyline.
I see PBS will replay the 3 part series all this month.

If you like the Prohibition series, I can't recommend the Daniel Okrent book highly enough.

Thanks for the head's up. I found the replay of all three parts in the wee hours of the morning Thursday, Friday and Saturday on my local PBS affiliate. DVR is set.Lancer wrote:The Ken Burns Prohibition documentary was great. Best TV I've seen in a while. I liked the pilot a lot. Thought it was really funny. The next two episodes were not as good and the third in particular was fairly average, but I still had a few laughs. I like it enough to stick with it for a while.dbdynsty25 wrote:Whoa...really Brando? 2 Broke Girls is TERRIBLE. I do want to watch "The New Girl." And I really like "Up All Night" -- just really hits close to my parenting experiences.

Yes...the pilot was the strongest of the three episodes...not even close. This weeks was just so bad I do not know if I can forgive them. So bad.

I'm pretty sure most dudes could still enjoy that show with the sound off..

I really enjoyed the pilot for 'Homeland' on SHO. Thought the two main leads were great, and I'm intrigued by the storyline.

I can't stand Damian Lewis (see his awkwardly intense turns in Life and Dreamcatcher for evidence) but I hear Monica Baccarin gets nekkid in the pilot. So, I'm torn.

Down, boy! Damian Lewis was FANTASTIC as Dick Winters in "Band of Brothers." He can play in puppet shows for the rest of his life, and I'll forever think he had a redeeming career because of that one role.Slumberland wrote:I can't stand Damian Lewis (see his awkwardly intense turns in Life and Dreamcatcher for evidence) but I hear Monica Baccarin gets nekkid in the pilot. I'll have to run through BoB on my iPad or something, everyone swears by it. I know people like Mr. Lewis as well (one of Alan Sepinwall's favorite actors) but I just seem to have caught his WTF roles.
