I think Crosby and Biron had something going earlier too
On TSN this morning they showed a clip from a previous Flyers-Pens game. Not sure if it was this year or not, but I guess Crosby took a shot that he thought went in. Biron started yapping at him saying "It hit the crossbar. It went off the bar!" and even during a break in play he was going at Crosby "No man, it went up off the bar, I'm not a liar, you missed. I don't lie!".... and I'm sure a few other things.....
Then they showed last night game and Crosby "tapping" Biron's pads.... In the end, Biron got the last laugh again.....
The story points out exactly why I always use Crosby as a role model athlete to highlight for my kids. A very nice guy who works tirelessly every time he's on the ice. Never takes a shift off.
I would be proud as hell if my kids played their sports like Crosby.
Take care,

Too bad he dives and cries so much. In addition to doing such role-modely things as tripping the opposing goalie in a blowout loss and then hiding on the bench for the final 10+ minutes of the game for fear of actually being held accountable for his on-ice actions. That's kind of like how Pedro used to throw at opposing hitters' heads with impunity and then hide behind the DH rule. Really classy.
He's a skilled player, no doubt. It's just a shame that those skills reside in the body of such a whiny little b*tch.

Spoken like a true Flyers' fan. I would expect nothing less. If Sid wore the orange and black, you'd consider him to be the bastard love child of Bobby Clarke and Reggie Leach.
I probably would post the same venom in response to praise for any Calgary player, definitely Phaneuf and even Iginla. But at least admit your biases, man.
Do you remember Gretzky in his prime? No one in the NHL b*tched more to the refs about non-calls than Gretz in the 80s and early 90s.
One of the main reasons was because Gretz was hacked and slashed more than anyone because he was so damn hard to catch and so much better than anyone else. Same with Crosby.
Plus Crosby doesn't dive or whine nearly as much as he did in his rookie season. He has learned that the NHL is the big leagues and that leaders don't cry incessantly.
Take care,
PK

I didn't know Crosby retired after the game? Otherwise, I'm pretty sure he'll be facing the Flyers again soon. Why risk the future of the franchise in a blowout against a team with a propensity for suspension-inducing dirty play?

MJ and Magic Johnson in basketball were fouled on every missed shot. Sherik probably didn't mind when Allen Iverson complained constantly to the refs...probably loved T.O. when he was in his first season with the Eagles.
It's all about the color of the jersey. Let's not pretend anything different. I hated Rick Tocchet until he helped the Penguins do something he couldn't accomplish in Philly...win the Cup.

As a Flyers fan who reads Flyers messageboards, I think Flyers fans totally exaggerate this part of Crosby. Yes he did some diving and whining his rookie year when he was 18, but it's really not an issue anymore. In all honesty the two biggest diver/whiners I've ever seen were Mark Recchi and Peter Forsberg. He's obviously public enemy number one amongst Flyers fans, but IMO that has more to do with him putting up about 20 points in 8 games against the Flyers last year.
On that thing with Biron, there's obviously some history there but upon viewing the replay multiple times I'm not even sure Crosby meant to do it.
And if you were Michel Therrien, would you have put Crosby out in the last 10 minutes of that game? I certainly wouldn't have. Clearly the Flyers have targeted him and are trying to get under his skin.
Laraque needs to be suspended for at least a couple of games. What a cnut.
Crosby doesn't seem to dive any more than other superstar forwards do, but his constant whining sticks out like a sore thumb. At least, it does when he plays the Flyers.

You're only saying that because you're a Flyers fan. If Crosby and Laraque played for the Flyers, you would want to have their babies. Stop hating.

Oh, that's very cute. What chapter are you in in Earth Science? Did you study for your SAT's last night? Man, that new Avenged Sevenfold song ROXXORS!
Well, gotta go: I need to get home from school in time to watch TRL. God, I miss Carson Daly!
Back to hockey ...

Injuries seem to come in bunches for the 'Nucks this year. We started with three of our top six D-man out for the first part of the season, K. Bieksa is still out for awhile and now it's Luongo, Morrison (he'll have wrist surgery), Isbister and Cowan.
Thankfully the kids from the farm pulled thru tonight against the Ducks in a tight 3-2 win.

Bullshit. I have being very critical in this thread of the stupid and unneccesary play of Downie, Boulerice, Hartnell and Cote. If one of them had slid skates first into another team's unsuspecting goalie I would want to see them suspended, too. And they would have been.

The Flyers are negotiating a shocking 12-year, $70 million contract with Mike Richards.
Anyone who's read this thread knows how I feel about the guy, but I think once you get over the shock of the deal, it makes sense. Given the deals Getzlaf and Legwand got this year, the Flyers had to talk at least $6m a year as Richards is clearly a better player.
With this deal, Flyers have a cap hit of less than $6m a year. 12 years is unprecedented I think, but Richards is a rare player who is destined to be captain of this team for years to come, and you won't ever have to worry about his work ethic.

I hope a lot of that bread is guaranteed, for Richards' sake. Barring injury, Richards will be a star for years to come, as you said, Naples.
In five years, the salary cap will be much higher than it is now. It will be even higher 10 years from now. So the Flyers actually are getting Richards for a bargain price of $5.83 million per season for the next 12 years. This is a gamble for Philly, especially if most of the money is guaranteed, but it's a very smart business deal in the long run for the team.
Smart move by Homer and the Snider family. Players of Richards' caliber could command close to $10 million per season 10 years from now.
Regarding the length of contract, it almost certainly is unprecedented for the Flyers. But the Isles signed Di Pietro to a 15-year deal two summers ago.

Right you are. For some reason I was thinking DiPeitro's deal was 10 years (that was Yashin).

Wow, 12 years is an incredibly long time in any sport. I know that if Richards suffers a career ending injury then he can come off the cap and insurance will pick up the tab, but what if he suffers a series of injuries that significantly diminish his effectiveness?
And, going the other way, if after 7 years he's turned into the new Mark Messier then with inflation and even minimal salary cap growth he's going to be underpaid and the Flyers will have to re-do the deal. A 12 year contract like this is a massive gamble by the Flyers.
Dougie Weight goes to ANA as Burkie is trying to free some cap space to allow Niedermayer back in the lineup. Blues pick up a speedster and a change of scenery is just what he needs as his numbers have declined this season. P. Kariya may be the T. Selanne that he misses so much.
This is a very good deal for St. Louis, yet another building block laid by JD. McDonald has great jets and is a plucky little bastard.
Dougie? Great character in the room. Crafty passer. But come on: The guy didn't score his first goal of the season until this week. There's not a ton of gas left in that tank.
St. Louis definitely gets the edge in this deal. I shed no tears, as Anaheim quickly has become my No. 2 most-hated team in the NHL, behind Calgary.
Speaking of St. Louis, I finally got a very good look at Erik Johnson when the Blues played the Oilers in recent weeks. Holy sh*t, that kid is impressive. I thought Phaneuf (as much as I despise him) was great as a rookie defenseman two years ago, but Johnson is better. Great passer, great shot, already the point man on the PP, solid defensively. A very complete player.
At this rate, Johnson better make some room on his mantle for a few Norris Trophies. I was REALLY impressed with his play.

Yeah Blues fans are very happy with the McDonald deal for sure. There are some rumors floating around that the Blues might be on the Teemu Selanne trail right now as well. Apparently Kariya is talking with Teemu every so often and now the Blues have acquired the center that Teemu has played with the past couple of years. Just rumors though...nothing concrete.
EJ has been impressive for sure, he makes a lot of mistakes though too but man is he gonna be dominant in a few years.
Doug Weight is not happy about the deal either, apparently the Blues basically forced him to waive his no trade clause. Doug was always a class act here and one of the most respected Blues in the community not to mention a leader on this team. For that he will be missed but it's time to move on and we welcome Andy McDonald without question.
