I know they have beaten 3 out of 4 them already but history has shown us there is a reason that only one team has gone undefeated. Think of all the great teams of the past ( 60s Pack, 70s Steelers, 80 Niners)..The dynasties of the NFL and how none of them managed a perfect season....Its just plain hard.
Totally agree. If I were a gambling man I'd put money on the Steelers knocking them out of the playoffs next time they meet up. They did it to the Colts after a regular season loss and yesterday's game was Polamalu-less which may have nixed those two long TDs.

I don't see the Steelers doing it.

You have to put up at least 30 on the Pats defense and then hope that you can force some punts or better yet, turnovers.

Looks like the Steelers were too concerned about stopping the run, gave up some big plays. Maroney is a threat so you can't take their running game completely casually.

But the lesser of two evils is to let them gash a few running yards rather than giving up bombs to Moss because the safety got suckered up to the LOS.

I would say Colts and Cowboys have the best chance to score with the Pats but without Harrison, Colts have to get a lot out of their other WRs besides Wayne.

Cowboys could try to ball control and run, attack the middle with Witten (slow Pats LBs). It would help if they got Glenn back too.

I wouldn't count the Packers out in the SB either except I don't see them beating the Cowboys at Dallas in the playoffs, unless Kempen and KGB have much better games.

There are people who can't wait to declare the Pats the best team ever, if they go 19-0. Lets see first if they can win the SB by more than 3 points.

Remember early last season, people were toasting the Bears for beating teams like Detroit by 40 and saying how great Grossman was? Brady isn't overrated of course, but lets see if they roll through the playoffs like some are predicting.

They will probably not have to play both Colts and Pittsburgh. It would be nice if they had to play San Diego or Jacksonville too, who'd give them a physical game at least.

Maroney is terrible. I don't know if it's injury-related but he has been pretty bad this year. He's not a threat to do anything except not pick up yards after he gets hit.

I don't think the Steelers will get them again. It's not out of the realm of possibility by any means, but yesterday's win showed how serious the Pats are. They played two lackluster games, got fired up, and kicked the crap out of a good Steelers team that ran the football well and only turned it over once.

The Pats receivers plus Brady are just too much for any team to take. There isn't a secondary in the league that can really stop them. They score quickly so even having better time of possession doesn't really help. If you blitz too much, that leaves Moss or Welker in single coverage.

The two teams that have a shot at them are the Giants and Cowboys, because they can effectively rush the QB without having to sell out their coverage. I don't trust Eli Manning against the Pats D, though, so it probably will come down to Dallas in a SB matchup.

I think we can start calling the SEC West "Tommy and the liars." Petrino has actually trumped Saban. Why anyone would hire a guy who walks through the locker room head down avoiding eye contact with his players and has a record of pursuing new jobs while point blank saying he is staying put is beyond me. This is actually good news for Atlanta, because maybe now they can get a real pro coach instead of another college coach with a 'system'.

If I was Blank, I would find a good NFL assistant who appears ready for the job. Someone with personality as well. A minority candidate would be even better.

I was sort of shocked watching the press conference last night. You just get blown out in a Monday night game the day before, tell none of your players (from the DeAngelo Hall phone call in on Sportscenter), and take a new coaching job less than 24 hours after the loss. How does the Falcon team feel now?

It probably wouldn't have made a difference, but If I were the Falcon owner, I'd have fired him first to make a statement to his team.

That Saban thing was bad, but at least he stayed until the season ended before waffling around. I hope NFL teams learn not to hire some college coaches just because they're a hot property.

sounds like he walked away from almost $20 million and is going to Arkansas for an average of just under $3 million.

He must have been fed up in Atlanta.

Heard that he is not a good Pro coach, doesn't relate to his players, the staff hates him so he just goes back to what he is comfortable with. Too bad for the Falcons to even hire this clown.

No, he was following his personal, selfish script. This is Petrino's sixth position since 1999. He has held 16 positions in the last 15 years, with his four-year stint at Louisville the longest he has stayed in one place.

Petrino has the loyalty and integrity of a Bible salesman who swindles the trailer park of all its money and then goes and blows it at a strip joint in a neighboring town, ready to do it all again to another trailer park the next day.

I have read that this guy is a terrible communicator, brutal on the rubber chicken circuit. That won't fly in the SEC, where getting chummy with boosters and alumni is just as important as X's and O's, and wins and losses.

Petrino will be gone from Fayetteville within three years, tops. Bank on it.

Take care,
PK

Excellent story on the Bills' Kevin Everett. SI still can crank out great long pieces when it's not falling prey to the instant-gratification nature of today:

 ...and the owner cried tears of joy...was sorta freaky to see.

Bucs get first ever KO return for a TD....amazing to go 31 yrs w/o one.

Sabres get blown out 8-0 by the Barons.

Caolina wins with mandy moore? at qb.

NE escapes again...They WILL lose this year.

But best off all...

The Rams are still kicking ass....as Favre becomes all time passing yds leader.

Went to the game today. I think I saw more Packers fans than Rams fans. I loved seeing Favre, especially when he has a decent game. His last trip here was dreadful, like 5 INT's from what I remember.

LOL, that was not only pretty freaky but scary too. But at least we won a game this year and didn't go down as the only 0-16 team in NFL history.

Plus you got to see him break Marino's record. I'd say that is a good day :)

Browns have a good story going and looks like they might make the playoffs.

But their passing attack isn't built for the Cleveland playoff weather.

Yeah, that was pretty cool.... not that it will last long though as Manning is on a much faster pace (assuming he plays as long as Favre, and keeps up the pace, and his health).

Parcells accepts top job with Dolphins 8O

Former NFL coach Bill Parcells has agreed to a four-year deal proposed by owner Wayne Huizenga to make him the team's head of football operations, a source has told The Miami Herald.

Huizenga was at the Dolphins' training facility for approximately one hour, from 4:45 p.m. to just before 6 p.m., where he met with Cam Cameron in the coach's office. The futures of both Cameron and general manager Randy Mueller are currently unknown.

The negotiations have been on-going between Parcells' agent, Jimmy Sexton, and Miami owner Wayne Huizenga throughout the day. The Dolphins are not commenting publicly about the deal.

Heck, I think Parcalls should spread it around, and should have gone with the Falcons. This is the third AFC East team he will have been with. . . . how long until he pops up in Buffalo?

In other worlds, the Redskins' miserable, frustrating, very, very difficult season now comes down to one game in Minnesota at the Dome. Now, I have pleasant memories of the Dome, since the only game I've been to there was a nice SB victory where oddly enough not only did I shake hands with Dick Butkus at the turnstile, but I sat directly adjacent to Mark Rypien's mother during the game.

Despite the fact that after the Buffalo debacle this season I thought the skins wouldn't win another game, they have won two in a row (I don't think they've done that since the first two games of the season) and went into the swamp to take care of the Giants, something that I always knew they could do (the g'nts aren't really very good. . . ). After watching Monday night, I do believe we can beat the Vikings, but we must have few mistakes, and get lucky with injuries (as in, can't lose any more starters during a game). A win would give us the tie breaks agains the Viks as well as other teams in the mix. We'd head into week 17 at 8-7 with a great chance to beat up the Cowboys at home (it does seem that FedEx is an advantage to the Cowboys who have won some wild ones there, last year's crazy ending not withstanding) and nail that final spot. A loss would end our season, but 8-8 could get in. If we win at the Dome, we could sneak in even with a loss to Dallas assuming the Vikes also lose. Nuts-o.

Crazy season. Obviously, it's like nothing else I've experienced as a life-long Redskins fan. After all that's happened, it's almost hard to believe that the playoffs are still alive, but hey, it's the pitiful NFC. Maybe next year, we will be more on the healthy side as the season goes on. Despite how well Landry has played moving to the FS spot, it's never going to be the same as it might have been for years to come. . . . This team may not win a damn thing in the end, but I will tell you there may never be a more united, tighter pro team. And Gibbs, despite all the questionable second half and late-game decisions, has proven himself during these horrendous events to be nothing but pure class. Heck, even my view of Snyder has been positively affected because of the way he has handled this situation. Hard to hate a man (or wish him to die, something I am embarrassed to say I did at one point) after the way he handled this sad situation.

What can I say but that I hope the final home game of the season is meaningful. That means we must win Sunday night.

Vikings would be a dangerous team if they didn't have a developing QB and suspect WRs.

I would officially label them as dangerous. Top run defense, a tough 1-2 combo at RB, and Tavaris Jackson has played reasonably well in the second half of the season with the exception of the Bears game. If the Vikes make the playoffs, they definitely have it in them to win on the road against Tampa or Seattle.

Yes to TB and Sea but I dont see them beating a good team :P

I think Jackson will be fine with experience.... They get a WR or two and they could very well be be top tier...
