I'm talking about phones with a Mic as well (to be handsfree).

I've pretty much decided to get the new one on the 11th but wanted to know what you all thought my chances of scoring one on the 11th are. I don't know what it was like when the iPhone released last year but I do know that they aren't selling them online this time. I'm not about to get in line way early or something for a new phone. What do you guys think launch will be like?

You want noise cancellation for flights but a mic for handsfree as well?

Well CA is going to start enforcing a new handsfree law in cars.

So will they notice that you're using in-ear phones which block out noise? Probably not a good idea to use phones which block out external noise when driving or riding bikes.

Not sure there is quite that combo, in-ear or canal phones to block out sound combined with mic. But you could look at review sites like ilounge.com.

For in-ear, Shure 210 is a good value. Sony makes cheaper ones and they get good reviews. They just came out with new EX models which weren't being discounted much when I checked a month or two ago.

I don't think it will be anything like last year's launch. The lower price might cause a bit if a rush though. I would goto your local Apple/ATT store and see if you can preorder...or reserve one. I don't get 3G where I live so I'm in no rush myself. I can't wait for the new 2.0 update though :)

There are no pre-orders or reservations accepted. The best you can do is to hope for an 8AM launch. Apple stores are mostly in malls, and it's unlikely they'll let people line up overnight, so get there early and you're good.

AT&T stores will be less crowded, but will take longer to get through as the sales people try to upgrade/cross-sell/screw you.

I think Apple is ready with ample inventory, the biggest risk is that if you aren't there early there will only be 8GB units or White 16GB's left.

I didn't realize there were no preorders, etc. I still think there will be enough of them to go around...just a feeling.

The new CA law actually prohibits BOTH headphones in both ears. I'd just use the mic side to talk, but then use them both on say a flight (I travel a lot). Regardless of the quality, you should never have headphones going in both ears - that's crazy.

Actually went into a AT&T store & they had these. Pretty slick. They wrap around the ear (not ideal, but the sound quality seemed miles ahead of the standard iphone headphones).

Yeah I hope they would allow those wired-style kits and you can plug in one ear.

Then you can just store a cheap wired kit in your car all the time and not worry about forgetting to take your Bluetooth kit.

Thanks for the tips guys. Unfortunately for me the AT&T store by work is now a Verizon store so now I must go to the Apple store in Oakbrook which is about 20-25 minutes away. I was only looking at getting the 8 gig version so that may work to my advantage.

Hmm. My wife works on York Road in Elmhurst. I wonder if she'd be willing to stop there for me. She could maybe hit it when they open.

^Tell her you'll buy her lunch at Yorky's right up the street. If she works on York Rd, I'm sure she's been by there before. good inexpensive food there.

OK iphoners, tomorrow is the debut of the iPhone in Canada and Rogers has announced their monthly plan. It's 30 dollars for 6GB of data use plus your usual voice plan. Now because I am not a new customer with them, I am looking at a $399 16GB iPhone for upgrading instead of $299. But the fee that pissed me off is that they want to charge me another $35 for administration fees.

All this, for a mandatory three year term. How does it compare to AT&T down south? I know 6GB is more than enough for my 3G use but I think it's unlimited for you guys. Is it worth the upgrade?

It's a no go for her but I found one on 75th street in Darien that's not too far from my work. The plan is to stop there on my way in to work and see how crazy it is. If it's not too bad I'll stop. If it is too bad I'll go to work and call later. I'm hoping I'll be fine since I only want one of the 8 giggers.

Just depends on whether you surf enough that the speeds would make a difference to you.

That and the GPS.

In some reviews, they say the 3G really hits the battery life.

Sound quality for calls are suppose to be better.

AT&T is unlimited data but they raised the monthly fees, $10 more for data and you have to pay $5 for the 200 texts you used to get included.

Comes out to slightly more over a 2-year contract than the original iPhone.

So it's a choice between faster surfing and better location-tracking versus higher monthly costs and perhaps inferior battery life.

Do you have to pay for 3G usage? I pay around $20 plus phone plan for unlimited data and 200 text msgs/mo with my current iPhone.

I just installed it :) The reason I was afraid to install was due to a post over at an iPhone forum I frequent. Some guy's iPhone was crashing during the install. Turns out he didn't have the new version of iTunes on his Mac...that is why he was getting the crashes. The install went fine and its now syncing all my stuff. Gonna get some apps in a bit :D

Rogers is known for ripping up customers here. With little competition they are the only GSM carrier. My voice plan is OK at $25 bucks, but they want me lock in for 3 years. The data plan is for an additional $30 for 6GB use (not unlimited), not sure if they force me to sign for 3G, but it would be nice to get it.

Damn, there are a ton of apps in the app store. All kinds of things. The games look like there could be a ton of potential. I DL the MLB App and it is pretty nice...the highlight videos are very nice. I am impressed.
