No they are NOT discontinuing Zune Pass. It's part of the Windows 7 phones. It would be nice for a discount but it's what lured me over to the Zune especially the HUGE discount at Wallyworld.com

Now DB has me second guessing my purchase after saying the 4G Ipods have nice sound and iOOTP
Its never easy is it?
The Zune Pass is a huge part of the deal for me so thats a HUGE sigh of relief.

The Zune HD sounds better...don't get me wrong. I just had a Zune HD, an Ipod Nano (for my car kit) & my Android phone...really no reason to have all three. Sold the Nano and the HD to pay for the 64gb Touch (didn't cover all of it obviously). The key is to find a set of earphones that work well with the actual device. I'm a regular on the head-fi boards trying virtually every headphone known to man. It's been rough, but I think I've found the headphones that work with the iPhone the best. The Zune worked well with a bunch of different headphones whereas I'm really only happy with a few on the Ipod. If you want any recommendations, I'm here.

And not all PCs. As luck would have it, my PC at work runs Win NT Pro 64-bit, which is not compatible with the Zune software. Need the OS for my engineering aps, hate it for the inability to get my music fix. So I'm "stuck" using my Zune HD 32 GB at work.
Been thinking about getting a Cowon X7, since they are $280 or so on Amazon, but the 64 GB Zune HDs are tempting too. Just love the interface and Zune Pass. And a Win 7 phone is to land on Verizon this week too!

Windows NT and a Windows Smartphone...wow, you're soooo 2001.
I've been eye-balling the X7 as well. At this point I'm just going to start stockpiling 120gb players bc it looks like there aren't going to be any around in a few years.

This thing is slick and the sound is really good too. I started my 14 day pass and downloading a bunch of DMB albums. The radio also sounds very GOOD and it's crystal CLEAR. Some questions for you guys with Zune Pass. I noticed some albums are classified as not available or only have a 10 sec. sample listening ala iTunes store.
Is this removed when you buy the Zune Pass? What else can you download with Zune Pass, games, movies etc? I'm leaning on buying a yearly pass for $150. I must say the layout of the Zune Store takes some getting used to the layout. Now I need to buy a screen protector for the Zune screen.

If a song is unavailable now Im pretty sure its because they dont have the rights to it so it probably wont be available after you buy.... Sometimes its certain albums and sometimes its the band all together...AC/DC is a good example. They have an exclusivity deal with maybe Virgin?
I had to pay for the four movies I got from them....First Anvil then I bought Almost Famous, 40 Yr Old Virgin and Ben Hur for my trip to Greece last fall.
There are about 20-30 apps/games available. I only have 5-6?... Audiosurf, Hold em, PGR and chess...That I can remember. I dont play games on it.
I bought a screen protector but I never applied it. I was worried I would ruin the screen
What's weird on one particular album one song was unavailable, pretty weird. I'm going to return the 32 GB back to Walmart because I ordered the 64 GB HD from Amazon. I had around $225 in credits. The Zune is freaking amazing, sux they discontinued these players. Maybe the new iPlod Touch sounds better but my 4 year old iPod never sounded this good and the HD Radio is amazing and a nice bonus.

You will see more of that...In some cases certain songs are only available if you buy the entire album.
An example of weirdness. I wanted to get the Dazed and Confused soundtrack but it would only let me have three of the songs off of that album.
I got around that by downloading all the other songs individually from the artists albums onto a DaC play list.

The sound is freaking awesome for a device.
Thanks i'll keep the above in mind and yes the sound is spectacular for an MP3 player. I may keep both the 32 GB as well as the 64 GB HD.
I was looking to get a backup for my Nano 5G, because I prefer it to the touch-screen 6G, which doesn't play back video nor have the pedometer that I use.
But 5G is going for more on Amazon than the 6G! I can understand that new ones would be scarce. But the refurbished and used ones on eBay are around retail of the new ones too.
Guess there must be others who prefer it for whatever reason.
I got my Zune HD 64 GB from Amazon. I think i'm sending it back and keeping the 32GB I bought from Walmart. The Black Zune HD is a fingerprint magnet and there a slight lift to the right side glass on the screen.
How does the J3 compare to the Zune HD as well as the radio? Can you buy apps or games for the Cowon?
The cowons are the best sounding players on the market. I'm not a fan of the interface at all and the handling of playlists are limited at best. I don't listen to the radio either but I can't imagine its good on any player really. Novelty feature.
There are a few games but like the zune they are pretty bad.
The plus side is that there are a lot of custom skins for them but they don't make it infinately usable.

Some things never change...apple products being overpriced...lol
I bought my wife the HanGo Personal Jukebox sometime around 2000 -- 5gb and I think I payed $600 for it. Super heavy and had very clunky software, but the sound was really good with great bass in particular.
Reading this thread has made me wish my 80gb iPod would die so I had an excuse to upgrade, but the little f***er won't die no matter how much I sweat on it at the gym.
I'm not sure how into audio you guys are...but after searching far and wide for the perfect headphone...I think I've found it. It's really only available on eBay or from a chinese distributor lendmeurears.com.
The headphone...the Vsonic GR07. This thing is well rounded, very comfortable and can be a nice neutral earphone or it can be a bass heads dream with the right EQ (or the Cowon J3 that I'm pushing them with). Man, this headphone just keeps impressing me. Little expensive at 155 bucks, but worth every penny to the music lover that wants to hear every little detail. If you're in the market...I definitely suggest it.

My Electronic/Gadget PSA for the night.
For in ear, my Stax SR-003 (probably not IEMs from a pure perspective) are the bomb. Was in Japan last week and picked up another pair. Many praise their sound quality and response, comparing them to Stax's higher end SR-007 (at $2k+). I use them at work (you can also run them from a battery powered amp) and they sound wonderful. Bit more pricey at $220+ in the US (cost me about $185 in Japan) and more for the amp, but well worth it.
