Let's see what Shanny has in store for D. Keith after this deliberate hit to the head on D. Sedin. Despite the loss in OT, Canucks showed more life finally after going through the motions for the past couple of weeks. They are in a funk lately and are not playing with any intensity at all.
Five games suspension for Keith for his dirty elbow on D. Sedin's head. I would say that Shanny did the right thing although with head injuries there's never a right amount that justifies that type of hits. In the meanwhile 'Nucks officially announced that Daniel is suffering a concussion.
Sens are falling lately and tonight was no exception as the lowly Habs took them easily 5-1. The game had some nastiness in it and I am pretty sure that Chris Neil will get a call from the sheriff for shoving a linesman aside in order to pound on a MON player. He was involved in a couple of fights and eventually was ejected during the game.
Great comeback for the Jets as they played a key game with the team they are trying to catch up, the bipolar CAPS. They were down 0-3 and with grit they mounted the comeback in OT for the improbable 4-3. Problem for them they also have to deal with the Sabres, who are now tied with WAS and are playing the best hockey of their season.
I've been trying to gauge if the Caps might surprise anyone as the 8 seed in the playoffs, but here they are, coming off a tough SO loss to the Flyers, with the coach talking about improvement. They go into a swing game, talking in the press how it's the most important game of the season, and they blow a 3 goal lead. How has this team become such a mess?
I missed the Flyers playoff clinching win vs the Habs last night but love the fact that they are getting hot at the right time. With all the injuries they have had its a good sign.
Canucks dumpened the KIngs' chances of reaching the playoffs with a 1-0 SO from Bobby Lou. But the story for me last night, was how pathetic the game was called from the zebras on both sides. And to be fair it's been like that for the past 2 weeks or so where the inconsistencies are just atrocious. Just in time for the playoffs, you would say. The way the game it's being called lately, there will be a rash of controversy once the second season starts in a couple of weeks.
I don't care what anyone says, Scott Hartnell is f***in hilarious. This imitation of Hulk Hogan toward a fan dressed as Hogan in Pit yesterday was great. Entertaining as hell game, too. Cannot wait for the playoffs.

I love the guy. Wayne Simmonds and Hartsy are my two favorite Flyers. Simmonds is a joy to watch. Works his ass off every night and is tough as nails. I don't miss Mike Richards one bit. Tremendous job by Homer acquiring Simmonds and Schenn from the Kings.
After watching the All Star game, and hearing about the whole Hartnell Down thing for charity, I will also admit that even though I hate the Flyers, I like Scott Hartnell.
Or maybe I'm just jealous of his hair. One of the two.............
Interested to hear the reaction from non-kings fans on the Clowe incident last night.
As a Kings fan it was infuriating, obviously. I had a really hard time getting to sleep last night because my brain was running after that game. That hasn't happened to me in years.
Should the NHL suspend blatant cheating like that? Just a fine? Nothing?
Kings still should have won that game. Way too many stupid penalties. Quick's interference penalty with a couple minutes left in the 2nd and a 3-1 lead takes the cake. Know the game situation! The Kings would have had that in the bag with a 2 goal lead going into the third.

That sh!t was surreal! I still can't believe it happened and was wondering about suspension as well - but it seems strange, it is a league/sport where you get a five minute penalty for punching someone in the face so to give a suspension for interfering with play? I dunno. Definitely should have been a penalty.
EDIT: Last night overall was a super-exciting night in the league! Really enjoyed channel surfing through games and checking scores on the net.

Definitely an infuriating play, but don't expect the NHL to do much. Rule 56.2 Interference specifically covers this situation and calls for a minor penalty. The refs missed it.
Ultimately it's like a player obviously being tripped on a break but the refs simply not calling it. Maybe a minor fine, but you don't suspend a guy because he broke up a breakaway with a trip or hook and got away with it.

But the NFL suspends players for interfering from the sideline. The NHL should take a cue from them.

I can't comment on the nuances of NFL rule enforcement. All I'm saying is that NHL rulemakers have specifically considered this action and decided it is functionally equivalent to a hook, trip, or any other minor penalty.
You can't go retroactively declare that this conduct is actually much more serious, nor can you suspend a player for getting away with a minor penalty.
If they want to change the rules this offseason, that's fine. But as of this moment, Clowe made an illegal play that should've been penalized. The refs blew the call. Blown calls happen. End of story.
Even if the call was properly made, it's just a simple minor penalty anyway. No fine. No suspension. Clowe was acting like a scumbag, and sometimes scumbags get away with dirty tricks that should be penalized.
Sabres are out of the playoff chase. Bummer. Looks like I must hang my local hat on the Rangers since the last time the Oilers made the playoffs, Barry Obama was one year into his term as the junior senator from Illinois.

Im more concerned about 4 refs missing it, which means not one of them was watching the play, surely one of the two refs should be on the puck all the time.
R. Clowe's play is one of the most boneheaded actions that I've seen this season. If you're a Kings fan, you got all the right t be pissed off at his interference and more so at the lack of judgement by the zebras. I've posted a few pages back about my current concern about the officiating, there seems to be way more reluctantcy to make obvious grabbing and holding penalties, and in some cases they invent penalties out the rabbit's hat to compensate for their early mistakes. And while I often like to give them the benefit of a doubt in an always fast and physical sport, the striped dudes have been doing a poor job of refereeing, and the payoffs haven't even started yet.

Spot on!
Does the NHL ever discipline these morons?
In a high speed full on contact sport where players safety is a serious concern you just cant afford to have these kind of incompetent fools on the ice.
The guys calling the Flyers/Pens game are AWFUL. No emotion or excitement in their calls. There have been several giveaways, scoring chances right in front of the net and they have no reaction. Plus they are typical national announcers...they simply make vanilla statements about each team. Piss poor.
Canucks blank the Oilers 3-0 and along Luongo's SO, VAN win the tightly contested western conference and the 2nd consecutive Presidents' trophy. So what it means for 'Nucks fan is simple: There will be another riot at game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. Win or lose. Kidding aside, and with the team just coasting since February, the boys really wanted to win the last game of the season and have home field advantage for the playoffs. If it wasn't for the great performance by D. Dubnyk, the score could have been 10-0 but more importantly, the second line came alive finally after struggling for awhile with D. Booth scoring a beauty. Last year when they just cruised with several accolades, they seemed to steamrolled teams at will during the regular season, while they were more ups and downs this year, GM M. Gillis added more grit and lost in skills by losing guys like C. Ehrhoff and later during the season Cody Hodgson.
They just seemed to play tighter and held each other accountable since D. Sedin's concussion courtesy of D. Keith's cheap elbow last month and here's hoping that #22 will be ready soon for the playoffs. The PP needs to be better to have any success in season 2 as most games will be tightly contested. There will be always a dark cloud hanging over Bobby Lou in the playoffs, but not many teams have the confidence of a back up player like C. Schneider who could be the starter for any team in the league.
Sharks just came from behind to beat the Kings, so it'll be LA and VAN in round 1.
