Run max down force, tranny at 224 mph top speed, -20 on the ride height, 16/15 on springs, 7 on all dampers, 4 on anti-roll, 2.0/1.0 on camber and -.15/-.10 on toe. I had ABS on 1 and all but skid recovery off. Just couldn't make it work with SRF off. You'll need to run laps sub 6:50. Completely unrealistic, but what the heck.

Thanks 308 you're officially hired as my crew chief. :)

Wow at the sense of speed driving a Cup car through Nordschleife, especially on the back straight heading towards the start/finish line. 8O

I finally got an F1 car last weekend and have been doing alot of F1 racing the past few days. It’s more arcadey than F1 2010. Heck, the way I drive sometimes it turns into a combination of F1 racing and demolition derby. But the fun factor is through the roof!

On other websites it seems like people either gold all the F1 races right away, or struggle with them, like me. But I’m enjoying the struggle.

When I first started the F1 races I was getting lapped my first few races, but after a few days of practice I’ve won a couple of them, and have been very competitive in the rest of them. Like a race I did last night, 20 laps at the F1 track at Indy. Started in 7th, after a couple laps battled my way in to 2nd, slid off the track into the marbles on a corner I took too fast and fell back to 12th, took about 5 laps to battle back to 3rd, spent the rest of the race trading positions with the AI cars, and finally finished in 4th place, only 3 seconds behind the leader. Good stuff!

This might be the most fun I’ve had racing against the AI in any racing game.

The AI of GT games has deservedly been criticized a lot. I have maintained that the AI in GT5 is actually pretty good. It's kind of the hip thing to do to knee-jerk criticize the AI in this game based on past GT games, but that is just plain foolish. I dare anyone to name a console racing game with on-track AI as good as GT5, apart from maybe F1. The AI cars move over when they are being lapped and yield the preferred racing line. When you get aggressive with an AI driver he gets aggressive right back. The AI cars do not ram the living hell out of your bumper if you are racing clean. The front runners do a pretty good job of maintaining an inside racing line when they are in a dog fight with you towards the end of a race. The AI cars draft well on straights and the oval courses. Once I have beat an event I go back and use a car of comparable speed to the AI cars just for the challenge and fun of getting in close races. I agree with lexbur that this game is a lot of fun racing against the AI. I am doing an endurance race right now (had to pause for a few minutes to take a rest) and the AI is amazing me with its strategy and racing style. I'm sure people can pick apart things like pit strategy and other things, but when it comes to the basic on-track AI GT5 is really quality stuff.

Race Pro (360) has pretty good AI and the I500 (360) game has very good AI.

The AI in the original TOCA game for the PSX (1998) was lovely.

Oh the memories and look at the series now. :(

I know it's not a console game but Geoff Crammond is still the KING for racing AI. His AI in Grand Pix 4 is pure bliss and so organic.

Race Pro AI is decent, but still not to the level of GT5, which is surprising given the developer of Race Pro. Indy 500 has an above average AI to be for sure, but still has some issues with AI awareness of the human's car. For a budget game Indy 500 is really good. Both the aforementioned games, btw, are two of the four games I have kept for the 360 since I cannot bear the thought of not playing them again.

As far as the original TOCA, that game was incredible for its time, but the AI was nowhere near great when compared to current-gen games.

I decided the other day I am going to try to get every car in the game. I actually made a spreadsheet to keep up with the cars I own so I can quickly buy them without trying to figure out whether I already own them or not by having to check my garage. So far I only have around 300, so I have a ways to go, but I figure if I buy 10-15 a day during intermissions of NHL games I can definitely accomplish this feat. Anybody else trying to get all the cars, or am I the only idiot on here doing this?

I don't know, I think it's borderline idiocy to collect over 1,000 cars when I will only drive a small percentage of them. Problem is I have all this money and hate to see it go to waste. Plus I may actually try to Platinum this one. Never tried to get Platinum in any other game, so I might as well start with the one that takes the most hours to accomplish. I can already tell that getting gold in all the special events and a couple of the flippin license tests is going to drive me nuts in my quest for Platinum. At least I have 5 or 6 years to get it done before the next GT gets released.

Which would you get a GT-R Black Mask or GT-R '09? I can't decide but the Black Mask looks nasty but there are no specs listed. :)

There's a guy on the GT forum who has something like 1,009 cars apparently. I have like 130 and over 80 of them I've never used. I have bought probably 25 or so cars JUST for the paint chip and never used them. I use the same few cars all the time. My favorite car now is the 97 Castrol Tom's Supra. Tops out around 580hp, but it's a thing of beauty. I also have love for my 905hp RM ZR1.

I'm up to 420 cars now. There are some really cool cars I've run across in the dealership along the way. I won a Red Bull X2010 S. Vettel car, and holy crap does this thing ever fly! I've done a couple 24-hour endurance races with it in B-Spec, winning by well over 100 laps at Sarthe. In A-Spec I've used it several times and it devastates anything else in the game so far. I'm almost at level 40 in B-Spec, so Nurburgring 24-hour race is all I have left in the endurance category. Basically I am still playing the game on A-Spec when I am home, and then doing B-Spec endurance races when I am away. My PS3 has been on for a couple weeks straight now. Hope it doesn't break. Thankfully it never gets hot.

I recently purchased the Nissan GT-R Black Mask. One word "sweet". 8)

It would be nice to see if a car is standard or premium. I bought a race car for a challenge race and it turned out to be a standard car. Now I Google the premium list before buying.

The newest seasonal event with the Schwimmwagen '42 gave me fits the first couple attempts. I finally was able to get gold after adding some things and tuning it, but that vehicle is not exactly easy to drive. I figured out that braking with that POS in or near a turn is futile and it is much better to use throttle control when cornering. I was pretty pissed at first that PD used this vehicle in a seasonal event, but was having fun once I got the hang of its physics. Kind of a nice diversion in a vehicle I would have never used otherwise.

BTW, I am up to about 550 different cars in the garage. I'm actually racing some of the ones I think would be fun to drive and having a blast doing so, not to mention picking up much-needed funds for buying all this stuff.

I put low rpm turbo on it, customizeable tranny, and upgraded a few other things to give me more HP (cannot remember exactly what at the moment, but just go through and throw some cheap HP on it). The main thing though is the custom transmission. This vehicle will go way too slow without it. Go in before the race and bump it to between 112-124 MPH. Anything more than that is a waste since the vehicle will not go above 90 from my experience. It takes forever for the wagen to get up to speed after hard breaking so gear ratio is essential. Basically the key to driving the wagen is to learn when to let up on the throttle and glide through corners with absolutely minimal braking, and preferably no braking. If you F up too much early on in a race you might as well start over because it's impossible to catch the leader at the low speeds these vehicles go.

Thanks Toon that did the trick although I didn't need to go as high on the tranny (82 mph). :)

Cool! It's odd they put that event first, considering it's the more challenging of the events. The race worth 2 million is surprisingly simple in comparison. If they want to be cruel they can make a Schwimmwagen 4 hour endurance race.
