Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
A lovely, lovely result in the Tyne and Wear derby today. I think the "Chris Hughton faces the sack" rumors will end for now ...
It's so nice to see Titus Bramble sent off in a shirt other than the black-and-white of the Barcodes. I saw him do similar stupid things too many times for Newcastle. How that dude has kept a job in the Premiership for so long is beyond me. He sucks like a porn starlet.

Since I made fun of them before it's only fair I congratulate Spurs on a great win today. How good is Gareth Bale? Van Der Vaart has also been one hell of a signing.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
I'm not gonna pretend to be the biggest Spurs fan in the world, but a nice win today. Sorry it had to come at the expense of your dad's team.Macca00 wrote:Since I made fun of them before it's only fair I congratulate Spurs on a great win today. How good is Gareth Bale? The Van der Vaart signing was pretty exciting to me back when it came out of the blue, and he sure is paying off. Never particularly cared for Pavlyuchenko, Keane is worthless, and Crouch is so limited--good to find another consistent scorer beyond Defoe.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
RM outplayed AC Milan, in a game where they could have won easily if they didn't left off the pedal yet they could have lost it all in the end. They continue to struggle in CL games but a least they got a point. Ronaldinho is a shadow of his former self and Ronaldo didn't do much either. Inzaghi was offside.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
The second Lech Posnan was a classic cockup - who heads it down there? Third one was a cracker. Always great to see an underdog play so well.

They were a no-man team for quite awhile. That was his best performance for the Reds in quite some time. Glad to see those classy Neapolitans sent packing with a swift kick.Jimmydeicide wrote:

A two man team again with a goalie and A Kuyt flying high
They started out with some fire like the west brom game a bit of up tempo stuff which is missing in all the bad performances so far.
Still its only 1 half. Fingers crossed.
Oh crap here comes Drogba, now Skirtel will have an excuse for mistiming his headers at least.

If Newcastle keeps this up, all we'll hear about is how the Bar Codes are a big club once again.
Arsenal is all over the map. I don't think Arsenal can get any better with Wenger in charge. They seem stuck at the level.

Not a big club yet, but not a bad club. Andy Carroll is worthy of at least a look from Capello, no doubt.JRod wrote:If Newcastle keeps this up, all we'll hear about is how the Bar Codes are a big club once again.
Great win for the Toon! I'm pumped!

P.S. to Mike Ashley: Get that new contract in front of Hughton, pronto.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
Tonight's image - with any luck.

Still waiting for the 'de Jong-esque' witch hunt after Fatso Huddlestone's two footed stamp at Bolton, or indeed any disciplinary action. Apparently there will be no further ramifications as the referee 'saw the incident during the game' and his failure to apply any disciplinary action precludes any further developments from the Premier League.
How odd that this wasn't the case last year with Adebayor ?
Oh, and Andy Carroll for England ? Look, I know Heskey has retired, but one goalkeeping blunder from a hopeful punt upfield does not make him anything but a one paced plodder who can't trap a bag of cement. You know who he reminds me of ? Mark Hateley....yes, exactly.

Yet this is the same England that thought Emile Heskey was a proper alternative up front?davet010 wrote:Oh, and Andy Carroll for England ? Maybe they did - the rest of the world's defences didn't

To be fair, it's not like England are having a hard time finding space for all of their prolific world class strikers.
Also, a world full of MCFC fans decrying every other malicious or violent tackle in world football won't change the fact that de Jong is still a thoughtless thug.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
Garbage - you know it and I know it.
Perhaps if Gerrard had been collared for all of his snide elbows and kicks you might even admit it. Always makes me laugh when Liverpool fans laud this ludicrous, gutless prick.
As seen here.

Still, I better be careful - he might get 6 of his mates to come and do me over, considering he's too yellow to do it himself. Or maybe one of his Scouse gangster chums.

Upon seeing the goals on the news earlier, I was amused to learn that we pretty much scored 3 of them for you. My level of interest is such that I only found out about the match when I saw a report in the local paper tonight...fsquid wrote:Simo, we gots your number. On to the paint trophy semis!

I'll be honest, I totally forgot to listen to the match like I usually do from work. I didn't even know there was a paint trophy.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
The Football League Trophy, open to all teams from the 3rd and 4th tiers of English football and currently bearing the Johnstone's Paint name for commercial reasons. I think it was still called the LDV Vans Trophy last time Wednesday were a League One team, mate. In my youth it was the Auto Windscreens Trophy, Dave probably calls it the Sherpa Van Trophy, but whatever it is, it's a waste of time.fsquid wrote:I'll be honest, I totally forgot to listen to the match like I usually do from work. Having said that, there's a trip to Wembley in it for the finalists. Having said that, I live the thick end of 300 miles away from Wembley and I'm sure I couldn't be bothered going even if we did make the final.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
Bradley has called in a completely unrecognizable lineup for a friendly versus South Africa next Wednesday. Might be worth watching just to check out some new prospects, even if it means at least 45 minutes of seeing Robbie Findley in a USA uniform.
GOALKEEPERS (2): Dominic Cervi (Celtic), Brad Guzan (Aston Villa)
DEFENDERS (7): Gale Agbossoumonde (Estoril Praia), Nat Borchers (Real Salt Lake), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Eric Lichaj (Aston Villa), Tim Ream (New York Red Bulls), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United)
MIDFIELDERS (6): Alejandro Bedoya (Örebro), Brian Carroll (Columbus Crew), Mikkel Diskerud (Stabaek), Eddie Gaven (Columbus Crew), Logan Pause (Chicago Fire), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew)
FORWARDS (3): Juan Agudelo (New York Red Bulls), Teal Bunbury (Kansas City Wizards), Robbie Findley (Real Salt Lake)
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
Nat Borchers went to a rival high school in my hometown. His folks still live there. That's pretty cool. (We don't have many that make it to the pro ranks in any sport, so when someone breaks through it's a big deal.)
