He fell 2% short so he should get in next year easily, but still, a complete joke.
+ spitting in an umpire's face
+ insane decline at age 33 when traded to Mets (4th in MVP to completely sucking for final 3 years)
+ getting sued and settling lawsuit alleging deliberately giving someone HIV

= not a first ballot hall of famer
Arguably the best 2nd baseman to ever play the game (I give him 2nd to Sandberg though) = first ballot
The whole spitting thing is blown out of proportion. He made up with Hirschbeck and they are even good friends now. Alomar apparently is at every one of his charity events and they are buddies.
And since when is a "decline after age 33" a bad thing? Don't damn near all players start their decline at that age? What kind of argument is that??? He got worse when he got older. No sh*t.

He'll get in eventually, but he is a big d*****.

Alomar,Blyleven, should both have gotten in. What disturbs me more is 5 voters turned in a blank ballots, one guy had Dave Parker as his only choice. Parker better than Alomar or Blyleven? This guy should not be allowed to vote
personally, my ballot would have looked like this:
Dawson
Lee Smith
Raines
Never paid much attention to Blyleven, however based on his numbers maybe add him to the list as well. Far as Robby Alomar and Barry Larkin. They are both HOF'ers 100%. However, when players like Dawson, Lee Smith, Raines have waited for years and contiune to wait, i have no issue with Alomar & Larkin waiting the additional year

Problem with your theory is that none of those players would be considered top 5 (10 in some lists) in their position in the HISTORY of baseball.
Well, I guess Lee Smith as far as closers? But still, Alomar was arguably the best 2nd baseman of his generation. The only apparent "argument" against him is an unfortunate incident where the 2 parties agreed to move on and from where a real friendship grew.
BTW, how many years did a world class racist (Ty Cobb) wait to get in?

Didn't Babe Ruth actually PUNCH an umpire?
Blah...
at this time, am wondering why Tim Raines is not in the HOF
Alomar being snubbed is Exhibit 2,411,316 that the writers are idiots. Dawson is a fringe HoF'er at best, but as a fan I'm happy for him...if not for the institution.
Raines should absolutely be in, he's been 1a with Santo as the most ridiculous omission for some time.

Agree on the writers 100%.
Babe Ruth didnt get all the votes. He got 95.1%. ..Willie Mays 94.7%...Mickey Mantle 88.2%. .etc etc...A milion more examples as no one gets 100%...Why?...Cause writers like to show us who is boss? The pen is truley mightier than the bat...Small dick but big ass pen.
If you haven't, why give a crap? Baseball fans know who Pete Rose was, or the impact a player like Mark McGuire had even if the baseball writers never vote him in.
Rose is really hurt that he's not in the HoF but when he grew up, being in the HoF was a consecration of a career. Now, the stature of a particular player is easily looked up on the web and people don't have to go to that particular town.
Same with basketball and football HoF too. The absurd one, because people seem to give so much a damn, is the Rock and Roll HoF.

lol.
Andre Dawson is bein interviewed on set of MLB Network Hot Stove. Very happy for him.
LaRussa is fiercely loyal to a fault that it makes him look like a big moron. Frankly, he doesn't seem to care either.
At least McGwire admitted to it, something Sosa, Barry, and Clemens have yet to do.
This isn't earth shattering news, as it was the world's worst kept secret. I just wish he would have manned up at the congressional hearings. He could have said the exact same thing that was written in the press release.
A Q & A between McGwire and a St. Louis reporter. I don't buy the whole b.s. that he used it strictly because of injuries. Nor do I believe none of the coaches ever suspected him.
Talk about good timing for the admission. Big Mac is their new hitting coach, LaRussa dreams about him playing as a pinch hitter... yet it's the first time for the manager to know anything about Mac's involvement with drugs.
That is capital M, little c, capital G, little W (again, little W), I, R, E.
There is no U in his name. I repeat, no U....never has there been a U. Never will there be U. Just making that comment. Not busting your balls wco, but I see his name misspelled all the time!
Did anyone catch the Costas/McGwire interview on MLB? Pretty moving, but agree with the critics that he should have acknowledged that the PEDS attributed to his performance, and wasn't just for health reasons.
