Its dried glue that didn't adhere to anything when they were gluing all the guts in (wires etc) If it bothers you, take the back of the guitar off and it will come right out. Thats what I did, I too wondered what it was until I opened it up and got a ball of dry glue outJames_E wrote:Got a replacement guitar yesterday.
THere's something rattling around inside it. WTF? I asked ea on they "my questions" site what they want me to do.

My favorite Clash song ever, and a great Ramones song. "Truth Hits Everybody" is a good song but not one I think would be great Rock Band material. Wish they had "So Lonely" up there instead.
I wish they would work on signing on new bands, instead of dragging up obscure songs by already signed bands. I mean, how many Queen Of The Stone Age songs do we need? I would love to see some Zep, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Queen, Beatles, U2, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Motly Crue, Alice In Chains.
Anybody here finished a drum career yet on hard?
I am up to the last set and only have "Won't Get Fooled Again" and
"Run To The Hills" left. I dont see myself getting past these songs anytime soon. I have a hard time with the "galloping" notes in RTTH. My red drum
doesn't seem to register all the notes when I am doing those "galloping" hits.
I have read other people also having problems with the red drum. Some folks say they tape it down to make the drum skin "tighter" and closer to the sensor. Others have moded their drum by opening it up and modding the sensor. Anyone else have these issues?

I finished the hard career a few weeks ago. Great accomplishment for me, and now I'm about 3/4th through expert (including DLC).JackB1 wrote:Anybody here finished a drum career yet on hard?

Yes, the Red drum is in many cases incapable of keeping up with the hits you need to do on harder levels, and as far as I know there is still not a reliable one in production, so returning it won't necessarily do you any good. I did a variation of the 'sock and rubber band' mod using a pair of boxer shorts, and that helped a lot...especially on Run to the Hills.
Looks like crap, obviously, but I only pull it out when I'm trying to beat songs with fast snare runs.

Even though I am only a medium guitar player it is still fun to play to certain songs. I love Tom Sawyer on the drums, guitar or bass. I would love to see some Van Halen or Def Leppard DLC come out. THAT would be very cool.Diablo25 wrote:I've been getting into the guitar more and more but anything above medium is just nuts for me. If the Orange button is involved - forget it!

I have cutout drum mutes over my drums to cut down on the noise and provide more bounce, so do I put the rubber band and sock OVER that or do I need to take that off? So you normally play with the drums "as is", but use this mod for songs with fast snare parts?webdanzer wrote: I finished the hard career a few weeks ago. It looks like this mod "tightens" the drum head, while the sock deadens the vibrations sent out to the adjoining drums. Wouldn't a cotton headband stretched over the drumhead accomplish the same thing? You need the socks because a rubber band vibrates so easily. You also might be able to just tie some long sneaker laces around the drum? That would tighten it up without the vibration problem of the rubber bands.
I am going to experiment with some things and report back. This wasn't even an issue until I got to this last set on HARD.
I don't know it would matter much whether you do it above or below the mute, Jack. The vibration problem has nothing to do with the material of the rubber bands, Jack. Because you now have a tighter drum, any impact has a greater chance to pass over to the adjoining drum. This would be the case even with a shoe lace. A dampener would still be useful. Your cotton headband idea should work fine. I personally don't have four cotton headbands lying around the house, though.JackB1 wrote:

The drum problem only became an issue that kept me from passing a song on Run to the Hills, though it was present the entire time I played. Earlier songs have snare runs that will see your rating plummet, but none last as long as the parts in RttH. You still miss notes, but not to the extent that you fail the song.
My accuracy is much better with the drum tighter. You can check yours for yourself by doing practice rolls in any song's Big Rock Ending section.
All that said, yeah, I only use the mod for those certain songs where I *need* it, because it's pretty ugly, I'm sure it wears the drum out a little faster, and I don't usually care about 'perfecting' a song.
Makes sense. Well I have to do something if I want to pass RTTH. I just didn't want to remove my drum mutes, because they might not stick back on later. I will try a rubber band around it first and see if that helps. The mutes themselves might keep the vibrations from setting off the adjacent drums.webdanzer wrote: I don't know it would matter much whether you do it above or below the mute, Jack. There is also a mod where you open up the top of the drum and put a little 1" square of material (thickness of a penny) in the middle, so that it presses the sensor a little closer. This is probably doing the same thing that the rubber band/sock is doing, but will look a lot nicer

I have QM drums.webdanzer wrote:From what I understand, Jack, the 'penny mod' works better with the EL sets of drums, while the 'sock mod' works better with the QM's.
You really should see quite a difference once you tighten the drum. I passed RttH on the second try after tightening up. Good luck!
Thats pretty impressive that you were able to get thru HARD all the way. Do you have any prior "musical" experience? "Wont Get Fooled Again" is a
b*tch as well

It's weird that it's physically impossible for me to get thru the game without modding the "stock" drum set! Great Quality Control Harmonix!!!
this one was easy.....
I just took a wide, large rubber band and put it over my red drum (over the drum mute) and it works so much better on the fast stuff. I can actually do those triplets now in RTTH. First time I tried it with the rubber band, I got up to 40%. It's just a matter of time now
I guess my rubber drum mutes under the rubber band absorbs the extra vibration. I am not getting any extra hits on adjacent drums at all.
thanks for the tips, Web.

Someone at scorehero supposedly found what appears to be a track list in one of the files in the latest DLC pack. Check it out:
http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/vie ... sc&start=0
Updated list as of 02-13-2008 pulled from [(Arguably) Punk Pack 02]. I am leaving list in alphabetical order with released songs removed from the list. There were two entries labeled <String text> that I assume are placeholders. The list was found in spa.bin (it's actually 2 lists).
This list is NOT for certain what will be released, only that Harmonix POSSIBLY has worked on, is working on, or will be working on. Artists were not listed in the file.

Web, did u have to do anything to your yellow? I keep dropping notes in the intro to Run To The Hills. I was able to get into the 2nd verse last night, which I was never able to do yet. Still a ways to go thought until I get thru it. And then I have "Won't Get Fooled Again" to deal with

My yellow has been pretty good. I probably have to hit it a little harder than all the other ones, but that still falls under the strength with which I normally hit it, so it's not really a problem.JackB1 wrote: Now that my red drum is better, my yellow is now acting up

Another song you'll need the red drum mod for is Train Kept A-Rollin on Expert...
