I'm also salivating over Lopez-Gamboa. Really hard to call. JuanMa seems to be a better technician and can break guys down, but Gamboa's speed and power may not give JuanMa time to read and make adjustments.

Very intriguing fight among two of the top prospects in the game today.

Not only that, Gamboa just destroyed the same guy that gave Juanma the fight of his life last year.

Still, is good to be excited for another fellow Prican boxer rising...

True, but I'm not sure apt comparisons can be made between the two fights.

As Max Kellerman pointed out -- accurately, as he almost always does -- Saturday night, Mtgawa was tailor-made for Gamboa. Mtgawa has no head movement, very little lateral movement. He's just standing there to be hit, which is perfect for an explosive puncher like Gamboa.

JuanMa won't make that same mistake. He's such a skilled tactician at such a young age. He'll move in and out and side to side for the entire fight, presenting a much tougher target to hit for Gamboa.

But if Gamboa does hit him, it's big trouble for JuanMa. Mtgawa nearly put JuanMa down, and Gamboa hits harder and with more punches in his combos than Mtgawa.

Featherweight is a very exciting class these days! Gamboa, JuanMa, Caballero, Chris John, Juarez all can put on great fights at 126, and each guy is a bit different. Styles make fights, and these guys create a smorgasbord of styles!

With Richardson at his corner, Mosley is a dangerous man. It will be a great test of speed, endurance, tech, power and will. Shane is a great fighter, can he penetrate Floyd's skillful D?

I think so. Mosley is skilled enough at cutting off angles and at boxing to prevent Floyd from his usual tactic of stick, counter-punch and run. Mosley will force Floyd to fight, and Sugar Shane has been in more pitched bouts lately in the last decade than Mayweather, fighting cats like Cotto, Margarito, Collazo, Winky Wright, Vargas, the late, great Vernon Forrest. That could prove decisive.

Looking forward to this bout!

VERY entertaining main event last night on ESPN's "Friday Night Fights" between Jesse Brinkley and Curtis Stevens. Not much defense, plenty of shots landed.

Three very good fights this weekend. From ringtv.com:

On Friday, THE RING's No. 3-rated light heavyweight, Glen Johnson (49-13-2, 33 KOs), takes on No. 7-rated 175 pounder Yusaf Mack (27-2-2, 16 KOs) in the main event of an ESPN2-televised card from Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

On Saturday, No. 1-rated lightweight Edwin Valero (26-0, 26 KOs) will defend his 135-pound belt against mandatory challenger and No. 9-rated Antonio DeMarco (23-1-1, 17 KOs) in the main event of a Showtime-televised event from Monterrey, Mexico.

Also on Saturday, THE RING cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek (39-1, 27 KOs) takes on 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason Estrada (16-2, 4 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round heavyweight bout that headlines a card in Newark, N.J.

Pavlik better fight MUCH better than he did against Lockett and Rubio, or Martinez is going to kick his ass.

I think Martinez will win, regardless. Crafty boxers -- like Hopkins -- give Pavlik trouble. Martinez proved his skill in a SUPERB fight late last year against Williams.

I agree Paul. A win by Martinez may set up a rematch with Williams. That would be fun!

I'm not a boxing fan at all, except for when it comes to Mike Tyson. I heard on ESPN that Tyson vs. Holyfield III is in the works. Thoughts? Aren't they both in their mid 40s? Sounds like it could be an embarrassment to me, but I really like Tyson and think he is a very mis-understood guy who has a great heart.

One more little gem here. Did you all see the Brian Kenny and Mayweather interview a while back? Simply hilarious!

I think Holyfield is out of ears so the fight has been cancelled. :P

Tyson-Holyfield would be a farce. I'm a boxing fanatic, and there's no way in hell I would pay for that fight. It would be like watching Magic play one-on-one with Bird right now. Who the f*ck cares?

Plus that bout would degrade boxing as a whole. It would be a worse sideshow than the upcoming James Toney fights in UFC.

The Kenny-Money interview is old news. Very hilarious. BK stands up to Floyd and all the fighters he interviews, and that's why he's superb. Floyd doesn't like to be challenged, either in the ring or in an interview.

Very good fight tonight on HBO: Devon Alexander vs. Juan Urango in a 140-pound title unification bout. Alexander is unbeaten, but Urango has faced tougher competition. His only two losses have come to Ricky Hatton and Andre Berto.

My main man at 115, Vic Darchinyan, also is fighting tonight on Showtime. Vic is fighting Rodrigo Guerrero, whom he should handle pretty easily.

Eager to see both fights.

What do you guys think needs to happen for boxing to regain it's luster that it had up until the late 90s or so? Does boxing need another Tyson or De la hoya? I won't even pretend to be very big into the fight game, but I remember catching all of Tyson's fights via a pk500 style method. 8) How much do you guys think MMA has affected boxing? Would all of these 18-35 year old MMA fans be boxing fans now if the sport still had it's luster and appeal that it once had? I caught the last Brock Lesnar fight and it was entertaining, but it still felt too much like WWF for me.

Simple: An American as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

The heavyweight division is a FARCE, with its boring Eastern European automatons dominating. Unfortunately, that's the only division that the mainstream media and most fans heed, so people think the sport is dying.

Other than the heavyweight division, boxing is as flush with talent and excellent fights as any time in the last 20 years. There are a ton of excellent fights and fighters from strawweight to cruiserweight.

I have at least one bout circled on my calendar for every weekend between now and the end of May, and only one of them is a heavyweight fight.

MMA is the current version of MTV of combat sports. Boxing has-been James Toney, 41, just signed a multi-fight deal in UFC, and it was big news. Herschel Walker is now fighting in MMA. Lesnar went from WWE to becoming UFC heavyweight champ in less than two years.

And you want me to take MMA seriously? Honestly, now.

Holy sh*t: This recent training video of Manny at the Wild Card Gym proves he is more than ready for Saturday night's fight against Clottey. What hand speed!

Despite his tungsten chin, Clottey doesn't stand a chance. Manny by TKO in the sixth round.

One of the best boxing highlight videos I've ever seen. Goosebumps.

Top Rank, Golden Boy, HBO and Showtime should hire these guys IMMEDIATELY.

What a sh*t fight. Embarrassing performance by Clottey. Complete cash-and-carry.

I offered to buy the Mayweather-Mosley PPV for my buddies, as I feel bad that my friend spent $50 to show the fight at his house for our crew tonight. Not much value for money.

Jim Lampley's bizarre spasm during the eighth round of Pacquiao-Clottey on Saturday night. This is NOT a YouTube mash-up; this actually happened:
