I haven't tried that app but have heard about it. I use screen sharing software all the time and I'd be interested to know how they would stream video remotely. I can't see regular videos on a remote screen because the screen redraw over a network is too slow.
Maybe they buffer it and then send it delayed.
There are a bunch of screen control apps. Some are very expensive, like $30, because some IT guys apparently like to use iPads on headless systems. I tried one of the free ones and it kind of works but it's awkward because you're using a touch interface to control a computer which is set up for mouse and keyboard.
I have splashtop and use it quite a bit. It's nice to be able to access my PC whenever, and it does very well playing back video and flash content. the only drawback is that there is some input lag, but that's usually not an issue for the type of tasks you access your computer remotely for.
One thing I do a lot is watch tv shows on my ipad around the house by using splashtop to watch them on my pc desktop, where i can view flash based websites or my entire library of shows on my pc hard drive.
I think I'm still leaning towards the 16GB model as I don't need to put all my photos and music on it. For me, I just like being able to go around the house surfing the net and what not.
So, how difficult should I anticipate it being to get one on Friday? What do you all think is my best bet? Apple store? Best Buy? It looks like the Apple website says that they will start selling it at 5:00 p.m. in store. Would Best Buy follow suit? Target might be another option.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

If they are releasing it at 5 they don't expect the same crowds. The first iPad was released on a Sat morning. I'm going to say that some stores won't sell out until Sunday. And they'll probably refresh the stores even by Monday/Tuesday.
Better yet can anyone explain to me why they made another app that won't let me watch my recorded shows on my iPad.
I think it's more of a rights issue with the networks and studios. Comcast is promising to make their VOD content available on the Xfinity app. at some point too and HBO is supposedly working on making their content available to people who subscribe to their services through cable or satellite. IOW, no way to go around cable and satellite.
Studios and networks are going to try to monetize each new medium, even if it's doubtful anyone would pay above and beyond what they already pay for cable, DVD, etc.
Direct TV is supposedly working on Nomad, which will give you some of the features of Sling. But DTV is really slow between announcing and deploying (return of the Tivo?).

16GB should be plenty. I however didn't put any music on mine. I had just over 100 photos. I also had over 50 apps and still had 9GB of space left open. So, I'm sure you could easily put a 100 or so songs on there and be fine.
I'm planning on calling Best Buy Friday morning and seeing if they received in a large number of iPads. I'd like to steer clear of the Apple Store as that place is always crowded.

I generally browse on my iPhone while around the house so it will be used big time.
I find the one thing I don't use much on my iPhone is the browser. Every place I wanna go has an app (it seems).
With the iPad however, I'd be more apt to use it as more of a netbook replacement (for web browsing), so I'm still deciding if it will serve my purposes.

Web browsing on the iPad is pure bliss. It's been a week since I sold my iPad, and I've been doing all my web browsing on my desktop. What I miss most is sitting at the table, grabbing something to eat and reading the USA Today app, or KU Sports, DSP, ESPN, CNN etc. Waking up on the weekend, sitting up in bed and reading the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Sports section is just like getting the paper delivered right to the bedroom. Whether laying on the couch with the tv on or in bed checking Facebook, or even playing a game of scrabble with the wife is just a nice relaxing end to the day.
Those of you who haven't had the pleasure to use the iPad on a consistent basis will really appreciate it after you get in the routine of using it on a daily basis. It'll become your news sources for weather, email, headlines, etc. It's a great consumption device!

It would be so much better if links were bigger. Pages are designed for a mouse. I can't wait to see iPad specific websites. It will come but you are right, it's much better. Mostly because the text seems more readable.

Thanks.. I'm going to take some time and think it over. Even the base ipad2 for $500 seems like a lot to spend on something that is a big time "want" for me. I could probably take that money and get something for the kids or pay off a bill or two.
They are cool and trust me, I would love to have one... just not sure I can justify $500 on something like that when we have 2 desktop pc's and 4 laptops in our house already.

You just answered your question. Do you really need a seventh Internet-connected device, not even counting smartphones?

I'll go with: yes! Sell a couple of those laptops. Probably won't need them all once u get an iPad.

Tablets are not unlike motion controllers.
Some people think it's a whole new interface while others think it's a gimmick, not better than the standard interfaces people are used to.
Actually the touch interface doesn't let the iPad down in this regard.
Two things
The internet was designed for browsers not for the iPad/Droid.
The keyboard dilemma. There will be a replacement to the keyboard. It will allow for input just as fast as the qwerty method.
Plus let's not forget that the iPad is only a year old and touch systems are only 4 years old. The real innovations are coming more so than just games like Angry Birds. And it's not limited to Apple. I played around with the Droid tablet and was really impressed.
It's more people are used to the way computers work and don't see any added-value to the tablets.
