My understanding was that they were or have gotten out of the extended warranty business with 360's....

Off of Paul Tallett's Web Log......

The cardboard box has a little flap in it so you can see the manufacturing date, and you want later than 9/2007, but an even easier way to see is on the outside of the box it says HDMI (yes even for the premium), and the power rating is 175 watt instead of 208 watt for the older model. This is also displayed on a sticker on the outside of the box.

Well, count me in among the afflicted. No RROD, but it gets stuck on the opening Xbox globe, usually with strange graphical glitches. I'm way out of warranty... what am I looking at?

It's in the early stages of RROD. That's how it usually starts. So your still within the warranty. You could leave it on and eventually it will RROD on you or you can call MS and tell them it's RROD on you. They get so many of those they won't even test it. :)

Thanks, I'm gonna try re-connecting the hard drive and cables to see what that does, but I'll probably give 'em a call on Monday. Having The Show on PS3 along with Super Smash (and Kart on the horizon) makes it a much easier pill to swallow. If this had happened during last fall's rush of 360 games, I probably would have freaked out.

Coffin is on the way. It took two phone calls, both slightly touch-and-go, the first time because I mistook the three red lights for four, so the dude wouldn't repair it for free under warranty, so I went and checked again, saw that the three lights were really just sort of illuminating the fourth, called back and explained my error to a different guy who said that happened a lot. I'm not the original owner (hellbent from these forums sold it to me way back in Dec. '05) which should void the RROD warranty, but thanks to hellbent's thoughtfulness to include the original receipt and email address associated with the system, they were none the wiser. If I had to shell out 99 bucks, I'm not sure what I would have done. I feel like more of a PSWii guy than Wii60 these days.

Actually MS is different when it comes to RROD. It doesn't matter who owned it and how many owners. They go by the age of the system. Since the Xbox 360 was first released in Nov. '05 you still have a few months regardless of who owned it. ;)

All 360 are sold with a 3 year warranty for RROD.

Well, add me to the list. The 360 that I had originally, that I put in my boys loft after I picked up an 360 Arcade for the HDMI port, has the RROD. Manufacture date was 9/06. contacted MS and the "coffin" is on the way.

Well, Xbox 360 #7 is officially dead.

I am going back to the PC exclusively. This system actually lasted longer than any of the others but it had a dvd drive failure a few months back. That was out of warranty so I repaired it myself. This time it is the RROD. But since I've popped the case open Microsoft won't touch it.

Hopefully somebody will take up hosting duties for Monday night GRID as we were really having fun with that one. At least I've got rFactor to continue my racing habit. And if rumors hold true I'll have Diablo 3 to look forward to after they announce it this weekend at Blizzard's WWI in Paris.

Have fun in console land boys ... Mixer has left the building.

That really sucks, Mix, and I'm sad to see you go. Can't say I blame you, though. I don't even think I would have stuck it out as long as you did. :(

Letters supporting the 'buy mix a 360' campaign will be going out next week. We actually have quite a coffer to begin with, from the failed 'buy PK a 360' campaign a couple of years back...

Hell, Mix, you've had seven...what's one more?!?!? Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Fool me seven times? Shame....less....

Bummer, Mix, but glad to still have you on the dark side with rFactor! And now that we have Teamspeak, it's just like the old XBL days with the original Xbox all over again. :)

Take care,
PK

Sucks to hear that Mix. Your GRID hosting skills were spectacular (maybe you could pass some pointers onto Zeppo  ).

I'll throw $10 in the fund!

Nothing spectacular about my hosting skills. I just had this list:

http://www.race-driver.net/blues/privatecars.html

It details all of the series and what cars/tracks they include. Anyone with that list will be a perfect GRID host. Zeppo was always the master TOCA host and I hope he keeps the races going for you guys.

And definitely no need for a fund. I am DONE with the 360. I already called and cancelled my Xbox Live subscription. When the support guy asked for a reason I politely told him that after seven hardware failures I decided their hardware probably wasn't very reliable.

Well, my indestructible launch 360 just got the RROD today. I guess I can't complain, I got 2 1/2 years out of it with not even so much as one game freeze. Anybody know what the turnaround time is now when sending it for repair?

Of course you can complain...a piece of electronic equipment shouldn't last 2 1/2 years ONLY.

Hello, my name is ddtrane. I've been living in denial. I thought I was above the rrod, but the man with the black hoodie and sickle has shown up to take my 2 1/2 year old 360 to videogaming heaven.

the strange thing is I called for repair, it is way out of warranty, and the guy said I have to provide my own coffin, but they will at least fix it for free.

The sad part as I have said in other threads is that I copped NCAA 09 early and was enjoying playing and practicing with my OSU Cowpokes. I then decided to d/l some rosters(something which I had never done), after unsuccessfully doing so, my 360 decided that life on this realm was not good enough and passed on.

I miss my 360, but not enough to run out and repurchase another. I will let the refurb return, then I'll buy another with an extended warranty this time.
