Yes, for all the talk of graphic improvements and other innovations, cross-platform gaming would be the greatest step forward for the hobby. I know it wouldn't work for a lot of titles, but for something like sports games or MMOs, it would be fantastic to be able to play others on a console or PC.

Seriously? Why does it matter to you?
Mostly because I don't your assumption holds for the XB1 automatically. I don't care who "wins.". But finding plenty of folks playing score chasing games like Powerstar Golf and Trials, as well as sports games matters. I already owned the "better" console in the Dreamcast. And while Microsoft is not likely to bail, it could suffer the lack of support that doomed the Dreamcast, which would suck.
The Dreamcast wasn't really the "better" console, was it? It was the first out of the door of a new generation. They launched way too early and had fairly weak developer support from the get go. This is simply not the case for either MS or Sony. Both have the support of just about every major developer aside from the few exclusives.

I absolutely agree with XXXIV. The XB1 is outpacing what the 360 had sold by this point in it's life by 60%. MS is doing just fine. Sony is thrilled with their PS4 launch but both systems will probably be making boat loads of money for their respective companies and gamers will have plenty of great games to choose from now matter which system they buy. While hardcore gamers will try to make this into some kind of war that can only be "won" by a single platform that's definitely now how I see it and I doubt it's how the execs at Sony and MS see it either.

The Dreamcast was clearly the better console. Just the way Sega ran it, it had no chance. People forget it's the first console w/ online play. Remember NFL 2K1, even on dial up, that game played pretty smooth online.

Not sure if this has been mentioned...Loving this...with 1.70 firmware update the PS4 will allow you to preload games and play them at midnight on release day. My copy of MLB 14 will be ready to launch at midnight :).
Lastly the software update adds the ability to download preordered games up to several days before it actually releases. It's a handy pre-loading feature that PC gamers should be familiar with

Better console compared to what? The N64 and PS1? Sure. The Dreamcast was released three years after the N64 in the US (2 in Japan). I would hope it would be better than those two systems performance wise.

Better than the xbox and PS2? Not a chance. The PS2 was released only a year after the Dreamcast and blew it out of the water with better performance as well as developer support. Xbox was released two years after Dreamcast and was even better if you want to compare performance and network features.

The point is that the Dreamcast had very little developer support and was released mid generation. So sure it was better than the older PS1 and N64. You could argue it was the "better" system for a whole year. You can kind of compare the WiiU to the Dreamcast. In some ways it's more powerful than 360 and PS3. But who cares if it only has games made by Nintendo and has quickly been surpassed by XB1 and PS4.

Three things killed the Dreamcast. Most of the games on the Dreamcast looked better than most PS2 games, with the exception of the big publishers like EA and Sony games

1) Huge Piracy

2) PS2 hype

3) No EA games

Also, while they had an impressive launch lineup, there was a loooonnnnng drought until the next A-list stuff started coming out. I was still reviewing games back then and I remember being happy to get an average Dreamcast game instead of a pile of crap with pretty graphics.

Nice. BTW how much does a 55 Vizio go for now? Did you get it at Costco? I noticed the newer tv's are super small looking, even a 55 inch. I have a older plasma panny and it's pretty large. I like how they're smaller now to save space. Also it's almost May, time to get rid of the xmas lights.

That's the new 2014 E series...it was $679 plus tax. I bough it at Costco because of the 90 day return policy and 2 year warranty. I was trying to hold out for the new 2014 M series but they aren't out until later this summer. There is a pretty good chance that I return this tv....looks great for PS4 and Xbox but when watching tv...the pic is hit and miss. I'm still messing with it and trying to get the best picture that I can. I bought it now because we are getting new hardwood floors installed in our house this week and I needed to get rid of my old Panasonic rear projection HDTV.
As for the Christmas lights...they were taken down but I left one strand up because I find them relaxing so if I ever get real stressed out via work, I'll plug them in while I unwind. :P

WOW $679! I remember back a few years ago a 55 inch cost well around 1000-1500. The panny plasma I have I got from Costco too like maybe 6 years ago now. It still works and looks great, but I'd love to get one of the newer ones and put this one in the other room. If I see even a 50 inch around 500 maybe I'll consider getting it.

I bought the first 55" Vizio came out with at Costco (a little over 6 years ago)...$1750...still runs like a champ and is my main TV. Sure, I'd like smaller and thinner, but whatever. It works...so I'm not going to replace it quite yet. Tho the new 60" for around $900 is mighty mighty enticing.

Let's hope that precipitates a price drop or a killer bundle deal.

Yes.... Sounds like this, in the near future, could be good news for us cave man 360 dudes.

Drop it $100-150 and move that back log baby! :)

Would love that Vader suggested XB1 NHL 15 bundle.

You missed the X1 Titanfall bundle with 12 months of XBL for $350.

If you're a fan of the platform,it would be bad news entirely. To sell it at such a huge loss would mean the plug would be pulled, sooner rather than later.
They may not exit the console space, but maybe absorb another grievous loss and move on to the next box.

But it really was moving on to a new console so quickly that pissed off EA and other publishers when Sega released the Dreamcast. I think Microsoft has to wait this out.

I'm happy with PS4, but I would consider XB1 if the following happens :

1.Price Drop $100-$150
2.Get rid of crappy windows 8 like interface Simplify it like 360s interface.
3.Kill Kinect as mandatory. Re do the whole OS for XB1 if you have to.
4.Get some exclusives that make me want to buy the system. It'll be hard to beat the line up sony has. Since I never had PS3, it's nice to start playing the InFamous, MLB Show, Uncharted series. Halo, Titanfall, etc... just don't do it for me. Even on 360 I never had interest in Halo or Gears or war or an MS exclusive.

The PS4 1.70 update is coming soon and will include a video editing app plus the ability to pre-load digital games before its release date. The sharefactory app is like the upload app for the X1 plus the ability to import your own music into videos.

I get why people are not fans of the Metro UI. I finally bought a PC laptop just to put Windows 8 on it because I already like my WP8 phone and the Xbox UI. But I''m selling the laptop and going back to Mac, as it is pretty terrible.

But the UI for XB1 is so much easier to get around than the 360 that I'm not sure what they could do to make it better. Yes, it is quicker to do many things with the Kinect than with a controller, but that doesn't make the controller bad to use. In fact, I use the controller most of the time when checking friends list, looking through the store, and deciding on a game or app to launch. You could never hook-up the Kinect and be just fine.

I think Microsoft has plenty of exclusives if you look beyond shooters. Powerstar Golf, Forza 5, Ryse, and Dead Rising are all great games. Peggle 2 and PvZ:GW are great, but I would assume they will be on the PS4 sooner or later. We'll see if Quantum Break and Sunset Overdrive are any good. Like The Order for the PS4, they look like they could be full of awesome or kind of poopy. Regardless, there are good exclusives on the XB1.

But honestly, I don't see the point in owning two consoles. If the PS4 is providing you with plenty of games and entertainment, why do you need more? Because seriously, it is a lot of money for purely exclusives There is really no other point. Nintendo makes a decent case for being an extra console. They are cheap and have games and franchises worth owning. But I've never felt like Sony and Microsoft were anything more than slight variations of each other.
