Just read the last few pages of this thread...there are quite a few good Android apps mentioned.
The EVO is nice...but the screen is too big. Played with my buddies phone tonight and I just don't see the appeal of such a large screen to carry in my pocket. Phone flies tho...it's almost identical to my Incredible...just bigger. Congrats Tjung...welcome to Android. It's fan-f*ckin-tastic.

I don't know why, but I expected to be more 'juiced'.
The fact that the newest Android phones already do everything the iPhone 4 does make it pretty underwhelming for sure. That's just what happens when they are now playing catchup.
It certainly looks cool and the display is definitely legit. It's got that going for it...but it's still on At&t unfortunately.
While there's no launch date confirmed yet, photos of the as-yet-unreleased Motorola Droid 2 smartphone have surfaced in the wild. The device largely looks the same -- though the keyboard appears to have evolved slightly. The Droid 2 features the Android 2.1 OS, a 3.7" screen, a 5 megapixel camera, a 750MHz OMAP processor and comes with Wi-Fi tethering. Motorola's apparently very busy -- given the company is also cooking up a new iDen phone for Boost Mobile -- and Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha says the company plans to release a smartphone with a 2 GHz processor before the end of the year. Motorola says Droid sales are "extremely strong" -- though the company is struggling with component supply constraints.

Wrong.
If we just use At&t's pricing structure...Badger for example (~175mb a month) would be paying 30 a month for unlimited in his previous life...and now with the new structure, he'd pay $15 for 200mb of data. When he only uses 175mb, he's saving 15 dollars a month. Hell, 2GB is only going to run you $25 dollars and apparently 99% of the At&t subscriber base uses less than 2GB per month. So nearly every single subscriber will save at least $5 a month.
Tiers are good for light to heavy users...it's the extreme users that are gonna get screwed.

Good. I would describe myself as light to medium on the usage. (Verizon user)
Verizon's Officialy Now A GSM Carrier
Well, assuming you don't look at the actual network (yet)...
In what's a bit of news that just feels strange given Verizon's long history as a CDMA/EVDO operator: the GSM Association has announced that Verizon is now a member of the Association. Verizon CTO Dick Lynch has also been appointed a seat on the GSMA's 26 member board of directors. Of course all of this comes ahead of Verizon's planned launch of LTE services in 25-30 markets later this year, as an endless series of rumors about a GSM Verizon iPhone seem to continually percolate (It will arrive in August for sure! It will arrive in the fourth quarter, no doubt! The White iPhone is secretly for Verizon only! Etc.). Whatever the case, the bureaucratic portion of Verizon's migration to a GSM operator is now complete.
Any opinions on what's been announced for the new windows mobile phones? My contract is up, and I was wondering whether I should get something now or wait till they come out.
I would think the main draw of Windows 7 Phone would be for the best Exchange and Office integration. And XBL, Windows messenger integration too.
Otherwise, iPhone and Android have more apps. and Android has the same carrier and phone selection that WP7 should have.
MS is reportedly offering cash to developers of popular apps. and games on iPhone but they're not getting too many takers. The cash doesn't cover the porting expenses supposedly.
Will they be able to tap into XNA and Silverlight developers to catch up on 3rd-party support? They're starting out way behind.
Beyond integration with other MS products and services, it sounds like they're starting out leaning more towards the iPhone closed-platform model (only install software through official store, limitations on what developers can do) than the Android open-model.

There has never been ONE outstanding Windows Mobile phone of any version so I certainly wouldn't place any bets on them. Especially after seeing their first offerings...the Kins. Ugh. Horrendous.

That hardware is apparently garbage, but the reviews I've seen have raved about some aspects of the software.

The Zune software is about the only thing it has going for it...seriously, the rest is a DISASTER. I've got one at my desk that a doctor wants me to sell for him on eBay. I'm contemplating just giving him like 20 bucks just so I can smash it. It's a piece of sh*t all around. There's a reason they already canned the KIN project.
Hopefully the "grown up" windows phone 7 will be more efficient. It's probably too late anyway...virtually everyone is RIM, iOS or Android now business wise, so they've got very little chance of gaining significant marketshare regardless of how good it is.
Sucks for Windows, but I shed no tears...every Windows Smartphone I've had has been painful anyway. The day HTC put their Sense UI on the Windows based phones made them useable at least because you didn't need a stylus. Unfortunately, that came way too late as well. Windows based phones are DONE. They've got no chance. Hell, the Palm OS is fantastic, and you see what happened to them coming to market too late.
Story is that they were ready to come out with it about 18 months ago but some exec. said it should use Windows so they went back to the drawing board.
Meanwhile, Verizon had agreed to offer low-priced data plans since it's not suppose to be for heavy data use like a smart phone.
But 18 months later, they changed their mind and charged $30 data like smart phones. Most of the cost is in the plans, not the upfront hardware costs.
So with all the smart phones around, the Kin wasn't saving the parents of the teens that much money. Heard one account that in almost 2 months, they hadn't even sold 100? That's incredible given the TV advertising.
Can anyone tell me the way to get better notifications of incoming texts/emails?
Is there a way to enhance the notification system to be similar to the iPhone's? There does not seem to be any type of 'pop up' message when a text comes in. Is there a setting or app that can do that?
For my text messages I stopped using the default text application and started using the Handcent app. It does give a popup notification that you have received a message and you can also do a quick reply from it as well.
