Not sure what Mike Green was thinking as he's been a victim himself of cheap hits to the head. Shanny suspends him 3 games for this one.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
You owe it to yourself to check out Claude Girioux's shootout goal against the Leafs tonight - IT WAS SICK. Bryzgalov is the hottest goalie in the league. 3 shutouts in last 4 games. He has stopped 126 of the last 128 shots. Awesome

Good to hear that Crosby will be back to play this coming Thursday against the Rangers. Pens have been doing rather well without him thanks in part to Geno IMO candidate for the Hart trophy.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
At this time of the year, owners and GM's meet in Arizona to discuss how much progress or not the league has been doing, and while hits to the head are at an even pace compared to last season, one of the hot topics at the table is the introduction of no touch icing. It would eliminate a lot of unnecessary injuries and I am all for it.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Pardon my cynicism, but how many players have been hurt on icing touch ups in the last season or 2.10spro wrote:At this time of the year, owners and GM's meet in Arizona to discuss how much progress or not the league has been doing, and while hits to the head are at an even pace compared to last season, one of the hot topics at the table is the introduction of no touch icing. I mean there's no reason not to implement no touch icing, but the amount of injuries arising that would be avoided by this rule is negligible.

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
The most recent injury that comes to my mind is when Oils' prospect T. Fedun broke his leg in a race for the puck with E. Nystrom last year. While it may not have the same percentage of injuries as the current rate of concussed players, when it happens it's just horrific and often quite serious. Seeing a race in a confined space makes not sense at all with the speed and size of the players these days. Whether is no touch icing or hybrid icing, the change would make a world of sense that would not alter the fabric of the game which is important here. Keep in mind that this thought was in the works for the past 2 years already and may finally come to fruition next year.Naples39 wrote:Pardon my cynicism, but how many players have been hurt on icing touch ups in the last season or 2.10spro wrote:At this time of the year, owners and GM's meet in Arizona to discuss how much progress or not the league has been doing, and while hits to the head are at an even pace compared to last season, one of the hot topics at the table is the introduction of no touch icing. Bryzgalov looks like he's in the zone these days, good news for the Flyers as the playoffs approaches.
S. Stamkos is a monster, scoring his 50 goal tonight, not an easy feat in today's game.
Take a close look at the amazing race in the West for the final playoffs spot guys. It's tighter than a can of sardines and I wouldn't be surprised if it goes all the way to the last game of the season to decide the 8th team. Hawks fans know well all about that. Not surprisingly, the teams that have been coasting like BOS, VAN, DET and even the Rangers lately have been struggling. For Canucks' nation, the Twins are a concern lately as they've pulled a disappearing act together, but so is the play lately of the rest of the team. Hope it's just temporary as the season unwinds soon.

I'm keeping my eye on the East race since the Oil has been out of the running since November. Man, I'm really pulling for the Sabres to catch Washington for the last spot. Is there a more underachieving team in the NHL than the Caps?10spro wrote:Bryzgalov looks like he's in the zone these days, good news for the Flyers as the playoffs approaches.

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Two teams comes to mind at this point, considering their rosters. SJ and LA. And you're right about BUF. When they came to Rogers arena a couple of weeks ago, they certainly didn't play for just pride, they dominated a period with their speed and hustle. Of course R. Miller was playing out of his mind and although his gameplay dropped a bit lately, he's the key whether they'll make it to the post season or not. Miller then was as hot as Bryzgalov is today.pk500 wrote:I'm keeping my eye on the East race since the Oil has been out of the running since November. I dont understand why this has not been done already. Is this one of the things along with outlawing head shots that they think will ruin the game?
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Apparently some people do and some even have it associated with less hitting. I've seen enough slew foots chasing the opponents for icing this season that I am shocked no more injuries come out of that. Even old traditionalist like Don Cherry have changed their minds lately all in favor of this rule.XXXIV wrote:Also agree.pk500 wrote:100 percent agree!10spro wrote:At this time of the year, owners and GM's meet in Arizona to discuss how much progress or not the league has been doing, and while hits to the head are at an even pace compared to last season, one of the hot topics at the table is the introduction of no touch icing. Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
FWIW it's worth, Don Cherry has been railing against touch icing for several years.
It seems to me that NHL GMs didn't have much else to discuss this year, so they finally got around to doing something they should've done long ago.

Totally agree. When they played the Flyers a few weeks back I could believe it was the Caps. There is no excuse for them.pk500 wrote:10spro wrote: Is there a more underachieving team in the NHL than the Caps?

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
Getting down to the nitty gritty before the playoffs. The Pacific division is simply nuts right now. My Sharks are in 4th place, one point away from first lol. 83,83,82,82 are the point totals of the top 4 teams in the Pacific. Getting drilled by Ana last night surely didn't help the Sharks any. Hopefully they can beat LA tonight in a huge game for both teams.
Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
The fight for the final spot in the west is going to be decided on the last day of the season, you can bet on that. COL and CAL also have a key matchup tonight for the 8th place, the Flames though are running out of games.
Would love to see the Jets make it in the East. That stadium would explode if they are in the playoffs, one of the loudest in the business.

Re: Hockey Night in DSP-Season 2011-12
I agree. It would be good for the NHL if they could somehow manage to get into the 7th or 8th spot. Hopefully they will find a way to get enough wins.10spro wrote: Would love to see the Jets make it in the East. Only if the Sabres also can make it. Otherwise, Winnipeg and its rowdy whiteout can go to hell.10spro wrote:Would love to see the Jets make it in the East. That stadium would explode if they are in the playoffs, one of the loudest in the business.

Can anyone imagine if Gary Bettman ran the NHL with the same brass balls as Roger Goodell does the NFL?
Neither can I.

There's one word that Gary does not understand in his vocabulary. Accountability. He's got none.pk500 wrote:Can anyone imagine if Gary Bettman ran the NHL with the same brass balls as Roger Goodell does the NFL?
