Well, the Falcons got their first win of the season with a 21-19 heart attack for me. It was one of those games you know the computer is going to keep close. When they lined up for the onside kick I knew I wasn't going to recover the kick and sure enough I didn't. But falcons D held strong. Can't remember stats but turner had another solid game and Norwood took his first KO return for a TD.

It took me 3 attempts to get this game completed as I was disconnected from the EA servers twice. The first discnnect came when I was up 24-0 and the second disconnect came early in the first Qtr. I got the disconnects early in the AM and decided I would just wait till later in the day to try again.

I bet it's fun running the ball with Michael Turner - his truck rating is ridiculous.

I don't know if Mac left the league temporarily or not but I cut my hand pretty bad tonight and had to go to the ER and get 10 stitches. My hand is pretty numb still so there's no way I could hold a controller right now. Go ahead and sim the game and flip the week I guess.

If it comes to it I'll leave the league so my next opponent can play the cpu. Let me see how my hand feels after the anesthesia wears off tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about the hand Scoop. What were you doing?!?!?

I didn't leave the league but I think leaving and re-joining as needed is a great idea. I'll rejoin for the M-W games and leave for the Thurs-Sun games. Hopefully we can revisit this for the playoffs? (Provided the Chargers make it:))

Wayne,

I tried sending a PM, but it didn't leave my outbox. I could play today at 11 am Eastern or 3 pm Eastern. Would either of those work? If not, we'll find another time that does.

Scoop, sorry to hear about your hand.

Yesterday I was working on my lawn tractor when I accidentially burned my right hand. It hurt like a SOB. Funny thing is the first thing that came to mind after burning it was whether or not it would affect me in the DSP league.

I thought it was worse than it was, but after a few hours the pain subsided and I'm back to normal this morning. Hope you heal soon.

Oakland(CA) - "It shouldn't be this hard" was all coach Spezzano could say after the Broncos escaped Oakland with a 23 - 17 win in overtime. The Broncos dominated this game in the stats column, controlling time of possession 23:54 to Oakland's 11:38.

The Raiders had only 4 first downs and managed 14 rushing yards but still were in the drivers seat to win this game. Denver struck first taking the opening drive down the field when Kyle Orton found Tony Scheffler for his first of 2 TD's on the day.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The Broncos were on their way to a 10-0 lead when the Raider blocked a 42 yard field goal attempt and recovered the ball. One play later Garcia found Heyward-Bey for a 65 yard scoring strike. The game went into half 7-7.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The Broncos took the lead in the 3rd with Scheffler's second TD. Scheffler finished the day with 94 yards receiving on 6 receptions.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Again Denver looked in control but Orton threw a pick 6 and the Raiders had tied this game in the fourth. The Raider defense tightened for one series and the offense finally mustered enough of a drive to take a 17-14 lead with 1:58 left in thhe game. With the ball on their own 20 Orton droped back, pumped faked a crossing route and Hit Gaffney on a fade for 30 yards. The Bronco's were in business at midfield with 2 time outs. The moved the ball down to the Oakland 6 but couldn't punch it in, so tied the game and the teams went into overtime.

Oakland won the coin toss and almost busted a return for a TD, a game saving tackle by the kicker at Denver's 42 yard line. Oakland managed to move the ball a little to set up a 46 yard game winning field goal. The kick was short and Denver had the ball.

Spezzano opted to call Knowshon Moreno's number. The talented HB had been held in check all day. Sensing that the Oakland Defense might be a little down and looking for the pass. Moreno scamper right for 66 yards and a game winning TD.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Denver improved to 2-1 but each game has been a struggle for the team. Orton's final number were impressive 30-37, 309 yards, 1 INT and 2 TD's But the untimely turnovers are really hurting Denver. The defenses inability to sustain pressure on the QB is asking the talented secondary to do a lot.

It doesn't get any easier either as the Cowboys, and patriots come calling. Followed by a road game at San Diego.

You know the Pats and Chargers will come out scratching and crawling since both are 0-2 heading into week 3. The Cowboys are 2-0.

It would have been sweet to see that blocked kick. . .how often is that happening to folks?

Can Orton really throw like that? He must have sent a nice holiday gift to his friends at EA. . .

Sorry to hear about the hand Scoop. What were you doing?!?!?
Thanks. I was helping my nephew move an oven and when he was lowering the hand truck I tried to make sure the oven didn't crash to the floor. What I thought was solid metal was sheet metal and it sliced through my hand.

Danimal, My pointer finger is still numb but the cut on my hand hurts like a mofo. There's no way I could play a videogame right now so I'm going to leave the league so my opponent this week can play the cpu. I'm no sure who it is yet but I'll check and send him a pm. Hopefully I'll be able to join again on Thursday. I'll let you know.

I looked at the stats from your game, and I think it's interesting that the CPU Raiders are using P Lechler for their kicks (he's an overall 98 or something, with the same crazy kick power as Janikowski but much better accuracy) instead of S. Janikowski. Weird, but true!

Scoop I'm really sorry to hear about your hand. 10 stitches is a lot! Ouch. I hope it heals quickly.

Meanwhile, I played my game against the CPU Lions today, and the Matt Millen leftovers were just what the doctor ordered. The Skins took the opening kick, drove for seven and a half minutes, scored a TD on a Portis run, and never looked back.

The Redskins doubled their lead the next time they got the ball on this little throw to Randle El in the flat:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The scoring play ended up going 49yds and was Randle El's first TD of the season.

Late in the half, the Lions went to their two minute offense and found success. They drove down and cut the lead in half on a nice TD throw from Stafford.

But the key play of the game came the next time the Lions got the ball with less than a minute to go in the half. On first down, Stafford threw a weak ball into the flat that was intercepted by Farikh Brown:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

He couldn't score, but two plays later Portis ran it in for his second TD of the game.

The second half went according to plan for the visiting Redskins. Portis got a third TD run in the 4th quarter to cap the scoring at 31-7:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

All in all, the trip to Detroit went as well as could be expected for the as yet struggling Skins. Campbell finally made it through a game without throwing an interception, and though the defense didn't pitch a shutout, they were able to get off the field easily all day.

Now 2-1, the Redskins head home to face the CPU Bucaneers.

The replay didn't look good the guy blocked it and caught it in one motion it certainly didn't look real he just ran into the ball and then had it in his hands, wasn't extended or anything. Still it's a block it just looked crappy.

Cowboys eke out a win in an OT thriller against the Panthers (cpu) 24-21 to move to 3-0. In a game that they were clearly trying to give away, the 'Boys learned it is true that sometimes its better to be luck than good. While there were some stellar performances on offense and defense, the teams leader Romo was in a very giving mood, throwing 4 picks. Clearly overthrowing his receivers in what seemed like every chance he got. Except when throwing to Jason Witten who caught 8 passes for 107yds and 1 td. Most of the catches were in crucial 3rd down situations. Marion Barber racked up 126yds on 14 carries with the bulk of the yardage coming on a 72 yd scamper. Brady James lead the defense with 6 tackles and a key INT.

The game stayed tight throughout, with Carolina having a chance to win in regulation with 6 seconds left. The Cowboys attempt to ice the kicker worked as Karsay hit the upright on a 36 yard chip shot:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

instead of taking a knee after getting the ball back with :01 seconds left in regulation, the 'Boys attempt to win the game on a hail mary pass that was picked off by the Panthers C.Godfrey, who looked to have an open field return to end the game when his blocker pushed the Cowboys last chance at a tackle, C Andre Gurode, right into a game saving tackle:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The 'Boys were able to pull off the win after winning the toss in OT and marching down the field for a field goal by Nick Folk:

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

So its on to Denver to face a tough Bronco's team.

TheGamer, I take it Andre Gurode is your new favorite Cowboy?

Zep, I looked at your replays and noticed Moss wasnt giving a lot of effort on that Randel El TD. Is Santana a little upset he's not getting the ball enough? He finished with zero catches today While El had 6. ;)

Jags Claw Their Way to Victory at Houston

HOUSTON - Call it Jacksonville's Immaculate Interception.

For the second straight week, the Texans saw an opposing defender return an interception the length of the field for a score. Jacksonville's Clint Ingram plucked a Matt Schaub pass just before it struck the turf and raced 96 yards for the score and a 10-7 Jacksonville lead. The Jaguars went on to win 20-17.

The ball came out of Schaub's hands as he was hit, bounced off one defender, and fell within reach of Ingram's hands. It was the second deflected touchdown of the day. On Houston's previous possession, Schaub was again hit while throwing. This pass landed in the hands of Texans receiver Andre Davis, however, and Davis took the errant throw up the field for a 50-yard touchdown.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
Andre Davis snatching a Schaub duck for a TD.

The teams traded field goals in the second half, before Jacksonville marched on a long touchdown drive in the fourth quarter. Rookie Jarrett Dillard made a key 24-yard reception on third down, and Maurice Jones-Drew scored on a 10-yard run to make it 20-10 with less than two minutes remaining in the game. He totaled 65 yards rushing and added 35 yards receiving. Quarterback David Gerrard finished 7 of 14 for 107 yards and made key third-down conversions when the Jaguars needed them.

The Texans drove down the field on the ensuing possession and scored on a 10-yard TD pass to Anthony Hill to close the lead to 20-17 with nine seconds left. But the Jaguars recovered the onside kick to come away with the victory.

Schaub finished the game 19 of 23 for 255 yards and two touchdowns. In addition to losing the game, the Texans lost running back Steve Slaton for two weeks with a groin injury.

The Jaguars host the Titans while the Texans look to get their first win at home against the Raiders.

Looks like I play Badgun in week 3. I've been out of town since Saturday, so it's my first chance to get near a PC. When is good for you? I'm good to go the rest of the night, or after 4PM PT weekdays.

I tried to add him at least 3 times already and it's not letting me. so unless i am a complete idiot (could be) or am missing something obvious I can't get him back in the league. I'll try it again tonight.

I hung half a hundred on the Chiefs today. McNabb and Westbrook didnt play much of the second half.

That said, I'm having a hell of a time stopping anyone. If I'm not giving up huge pass plays, teams are chewing up yardage on the ground. The computer kills me with slant passes. My linebackers are all in the low to mid 70's in ratings and just dont seem to have the awareness to keep up with the quicker slot WR's, TE's and RB's. Compounding the problem is my inabilty to slow the game down with a power rushing attack - Philly just isn't suited to wear teams down with the ground game.

I've been controlling CB A. Samuels on defense but should probably switch to a weaker LB - maybe I can help hide that awareness rating and keep those guys in better position?

Pittsburgh squeaks out of Cincinnati with a 21-17 victory. The Bengals scored first as they took the opening kickoff and drove down the field and scored on a 4 yard pass from Carson Palmer to Daniel Coats. The Bengals go up 14-0 after hitting Willie Parker on a pass play and cause a fumble that was returned 43 yards, after viewing the replay at the end of the game I probably should have challenged that fumble.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

No more scoring until Roethlisberger connected with Santonio Holmes for a 10 yard td pass to cut the lead in half late in the third quarter. After stopping the Bengals on their next drive Pittsburgh ties it up with a 12 yard pass to Heath Miller. The Bengals next drive sees them march down the field but are only able to get a field goal to go up 17-14 with 1:31 to go in the game. With only one timeout remaining Pittsburgh hopes to be able to at least get into field goal range to force overtime but on their very first play Ben Roethlisberger finds Shaun McDonald open and he takes it all the way with a 69 yard play and the Steelers have their first lead of the game.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

The Steelers secondary came up big to keep the Bengals out of the endzone on their final possession and win their first game of the season.

Ben Roethlisberger ended up 17-31 for 228 yards, 3 tds and 1 int and ended up player of the game.
Carson Palmer was 19-26 for 199 yards, 1 td and no ints.

Up next Pittsburgh hosts San Diego while Cincinnati travels to Cleveland.

Giants win over the Bucs 28-10 in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicated.

The Giants had a rude reunion in mind for former tailback Derrick Ward. Limiting the Bucs' attack to just 32 yards (6 on the ground) in the first half, the Giants built up a 21-3 lead by half time behind strong running by Brandon Jacobs and key strikes to Kevin Boss as Eli connected with the big tight end six times on the afternoon.

Jacobs, who would amass nearly 100 of his 154 yards in the first half, keyed two important drives that would result in touchdowns.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Kevin Boss would prove to be Eli Manning's favorite target by reeling in 6 passes for 95 yards including this 47 yard strike in the second quarter to make the score 21-3.

While the Giants' pass rush did not manage to reach Leftwich throughout the game, their run blocking held Tampa rushers to 17 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, the Giants secondary was extremely productive swatting passes and seeming to drop ballcarriers shy of the line to gain on every third down. Finally, with the game seemingly well in hand, the secondary sealed the win with a pick and a timely FFB both in the red-zone.

Eli would finish 10/14 for 158 2 TD/1 INT. The sole INT the one blemish on the day as Eli, who was 8 yards deep in the end zone after a penalty on the Giants kickoff reception and an 8 yard sack on the down prior, tossed a desperation pick-6 to LB Barrett Ruud, who caught the ball at the 2 yard line.

Giants (2-1) will travel to face Kansas City (0-3) while the Buccaneers (1-2) will visit the Redskins (2-1).
