I don't know of any games coming out in the next month or so I want to buy for it. I am unsure what console to get NCAA for come July.

If you get MLB we can try it online. I have yet to play anyone on the ps3 online yet.
I'm not sure if it's wise for me to buy the ps2 version of MLB when the PS3 one comes out in a month. Of course in looking around I don't see anything that says the PS3 version will be heads an tails better then the ps2 one.

Well I got it mainly as a player, so I guess i don't need to buy anything.

Firmware 1.7 is out and among some of the highlights:

PSOne downloaded games are now playable on the PS3.

Saves from the PS3 can now be used on the PSP.

Vibration support has been added to emulated PS1 and PS2 titles.
(All older titles now support vibration when you put the disc in your PlayStation 3). Cool.

That's good news...look forward to getting in a little PS2 The Show with rumble tonight when I get home.

I finally opened mine and got it set up. I have some really dumb questions:

Is there a way to charge the controller without having your PS3 on?

Do you need a memory card to play PS2 games?

Do I need to worry about overheating? I ask this because I put the PS3 in a spot in my cabinet which gets the least air from the fan.

You can actually USB the controller to your PC and it will charge.

You can "create" a PS2 memory card on the PS3 hard drive. Its all explained at Sony's official PS3 site. I'd link it for you but I'm at work and its blocked.

What rumbles??? Do you have to use a PS2 controller? How do you hook that up?

Exactly what I was going to ask. I think steering wheels, etc. that have vibration will now work but its impossible to get "rumble" with the PS3 controller.

Either Sony is going to come up with a new vibrating controller along with a new SKU or an USB adaptor is in the works so that we can all use the PS2 controller.

They pretty much have to. Not including vibration was just not a good idea. If they do come out with a new controller, anyone who purchased the PS3 should get it for free.

Not likely. Would be nice but don't count on it. It'll be another thing to slam Sony with when they come out with it.

I'm going to hold off on buying any additional controllers if I can help it.

On Danimal's questions, you can plug it into any USB port. You can also but a longer USB to USB Mini B plug, I think that's what it is, and use that if you have your PS3 further away. I picked one up from Amazon with a 10-foot length for under $10 shipped.

You can make several virtual PS2 memory cards, 8 MB each. You have to create it in the XMB I believe, not within any PS2 game. You press triangle while highlighted on the game saves column if I remember it right.

PS3 needs ventilation but not external fans. My rack is open all around. I wouldn't put it in some enclosed rack. At a minimum, some room above and open in the back and front.

It is in a semi enclose case, The front is open there is no door. I also have two fans on the back of the case with a temp. control pulling the hot air out of the case, I have about 2 inches on each side and 3 above it.

Honestyl i am more worried about my 360 in there. I have the 360 and the brick sitting on the shelf right in front of the fan. My new HDMI receiver is on the bottom. That thing gives off intense heat as well. Had I know all this I would have put 6 fans back there instead of 2.

Wow! Are you guys serious about the controller answers!?!? I thought absolutely for usre I was missing something, but I guess I am not. So, let me see if I have this correct...?

Sony adds rumble support for all PS1 and PS2 games on the PS3, but there is NO controller to use on the PS3 that supports rubmle? HUH!?!? 8O

Am I missing something here?

Be careful with fans blowing directly on your gear, it may be displacing heat where it shouldn't. Pulling heat 'away' from the gear is always the best option.

I guess I mis-spoke. The fans do pull the heat away from the equipment and out the back of the cabinet. Which is nothing but unfishined basement with an open vent to the upstairs of my house.

I've pretty much decided with the recent trade in offers at Gamestop to pick up an Elite. $250 for the 360 and $50 for Xbox (I have 2) makes the price of an Elite cheaper then buying a new 120 HD. Be nice to have the HDMI.

I found some information on hooking up a ps3 to a PC monitor, but is there really no easy way (VGA cable) to do this?

If your monitor has DVI you could get an HDMI to DVI cable.

Mine has DVI, but doesn't your monitor have to have some kind of HDCP or something support for the ps3 to work?

Just out of curiousity, why did Sony elect not to include HD cables included with the system?

That was the case, but it seems irrelevant in the face of $2 billion in losses...

Well at least you can use component cables for the PS2 on the PS3. Maybe that figured in their decision.

Maybe for 1080p but i'm not even sure about that.
