The strike zone seems to be bigger this year. Batting does seem to lag a bit whether you use the classic format or the swingstick. Speed of the pitches could be a tad faster although we might see more options in the retail game.
Outfielding which seems to be the b*tch of the game so far, is difficult to see where the ball is, even though you have the ball indicator on dynamic or locked because the baseball turns into the size of a golf ball and it's hard to see where the ball actually lands, and by the time your player reacts it's too late.
Graphics and animations are better than last year's model, especially the faces, you can recognize the players unlike last years' game.
I like the cathers' involvement in the count and where he wants you to pitch the ball, although as a pitcher you have the final say on whether to go with it or not.
Good commentary.

I think it is the camera angle that makes fielding so difficult, especially in the outfield. They need to zoom it out some and show more of the outfield. It just feels way too confined the way it is now and not intuitive at all. Very clumsy and more of a crap shoot than anything.Sudz wrote:i played the demo....1 game...can't make a decision based on that. pitching is fun. wish the camera was better for batting and fielding. so hard to pick up fly balls.
However, this is what I expected. The game looks great and the animations are vastly improved. Year one of a 3 year plan always spells looks over gameplay.
One positive is that I've yet to see an outfielder hit the wall and fall down like last year. Unfortunately though, I've played two games now and have given up inside the park homeruns in each.
Really appreciate it. I found a 48 hour live pass in my GOW case, but it says it's for new members only.bdunn13 wrote:I have a 48 hour xbox live gold pass if you are interested.. its of no use to me... I am not sure if you can upgrade a silver account with it or not.. PM me if interested.MizzouRah wrote:Keep 'em coming. I guess I'll spend the $8 so I can download the demo as the fielding has me worried.
I went ahead and bought a month, might play some GOW or something over the next few weeks online. I also would rather spend the $8 and save myself $60 if I don't like MLB and get The Show for the ps2.. although I really hope that's not the case.
First 3 demo games
After 3 games with the demo.
Make sure you start someone warming up immediately if you're the cards, Suppan is about to die on the mound.
I've been away from the 2K series for awhile so I'm not sure how grand of an improvement the gameplay mechanics are (besides the hyped graphics upgrade). It plays really well all except for the lame fielding camera that play too tight and doesn't let you see the runners on the bases.
- The catchers calling pitches works very well. They don't make signs with their fingers however (too much time maybe?) but they do move their glove around and get up or crouch low depending on where they want it. A quick click of the left stick resets them and lets you pitch wherever.
- The bullpen call up system seems lil funky but i'm sure I'll be clicking thru it quickly in no time.
- The hand written cards add a nice touch
- Fans yell some hilarious stuff while you're batting including what sounded like a four year old girl getting angry cause I wasn't swinging at balls.
- Some quirky (in a bad way) fielding animations. Nothing crazy but I was hoping for more.
- Batting with the flipping stick is HARD for me. I'm not used to it at all but I really love using the right sitck for free throws in NBA and CH2k7 so I'm gonna learn to love it.
Overall though I've enjoyed my first few games and now I'm really excited to get into the game once it arrives. I'm gonna go watch the gamespot interview to see what Brinkman has to say now that it's gold and players are finally getting a chance to hit some balls!

I played a couple of games and in my first game I think I had at least 6 wild pitches from not knowing how to properly pitch, second game I had none. Got blown out 7-3 in the first game and lost 3-2 in 13 innings in the second game. This is the first time I've tried 2k's baseball game and I had no troubles fielding in the outfield. Presentation and announcing is very good, also like how the catcher calls for pitches.10spro wrote:I am a bit concerned about wild pitches. Anyone else having this problem?
Just a few comments after 4 games.
I had only one wild pitch.
I did have 3 HR's, all on the Rookie and Pro Level, none on All-Star.
If you play as the Cards, get a releiver up ASAP, Suppan starts at 30% and is going down fast.
I really like the lineup card and the way it handles the bullpen. LB brings up the card, select the section you want (including taking a look at the opposing teams side), select a pitcher and tell him to warm up, I thought it was pretty straight forward. To check their status, bring up the lineup card, then Y to see who is throwing and if they are warmed up yet.
Did a Rookie game, 2 Pro, and an All-Star. Hitting gets noticably harder on All-Star.
My number one complaint last year (and the reason I returned the game) was the terrible fielding. It has been greatly improved this year, at least as far as the control of the fielder goes. However, I agree with those who have trouble seeing the ball marker, it is VERY hard to pick up. I'm sure eventually I'll get the hang of what to look for, but man at first you will be wondering exactly where you are supposed to be running to catch the ball.
Graphics are very nice, looks a lot like last year, but the player models are much better. I agree with some on OS that having a night game hurts the overall look, because it looks like a night game; AKA everything is overly bright with the artificial lighting. A day game would probably look much warmer, but we'll have to wait until tomorrow for that.
I liked the batter/pitcher duel last year, and this year it is still great. You really have to concentrate on making your pitches, having the catcher call the game is awesome provided you can hit his spots, and the Payoff Pitch is a nice way to boost your stats a bit.
So far I like what I see, so I'll be grabbing this one.

My biggest complaint last year (360) was how everything seemed so "clunky" - from camera transitions, fielding, and overall presentations. Seems like everything has been very "smoothed out" this year.
Batting and pitching seemed identical, in a good way, it was 'everything else' that needed work. Hope the sliders are the same cuz I had some great ones last year...

I dig it...I REALLY dig it. Holy crap, what a difference a year makes. Seriously...it's from MVP 04 - MVP 05...that big of a difference. I HATED last years with a passion and I just finished an 18 inning pitchers duel. So much for the 3 inning demo...LOL. In the top of the 18th, Rolen took the Mets 7th reliever DEEEEEP...and then Carpenter who was in because I used all of my relievers...worked out of a 1st and 2nd nobody out JAM but inducing a double play and a pop up to short. The game is LEGIT so far...obviously that could all change, but I'm definitely pumped for tomorrow.

Seriously db, I pictured your reply and it was NOTHING like this. j/k Glad to hear you like it!
Thank you...I thought it was just me or my TV or something! I am very disappointed with this. There is definitely a delay between pushing the button and seeing a swing. Also, no check swings...that is bullshit.AJColossal wrote:

I think you have to use the analog stick for this game, it seems like it is going to be like the shot stick for NHL 07 in that it will take a bit to get used to but will get easier once you spend more time with it.Diablo25 wrote:Thank you...I thought it was just me or my TV or something! Game is very fun, now I don't know if I am going to be able to wait for my backorder to come in from Frys.

Took me 45 minutes to download MLB and GRAW multiplayer demos. I really like the MLB demo. I didn't think last years game was too far off from being good and they appeared to have addressed everything that sucked about last year. I'm guessing a lot of you didn't play 2k6? I could swear you could check swing last year if you pulled back on the r-stick. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought you could check swing. Batting doesn't seem off to me at all.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

But even with the swingstick, the tips says that you should pull back a bit to start the backswing but I don't see the check swing at all. I still prefer the classic swing as much as the RS seem to be the key to any sports game theses days.
No auto fielding, but for some reason it hasn't been an issue for me. I turned the option to keep the fielder on the screen off and that has helped me.
The pitching interface might be the best I've played so far in my baseball gaming life, wow it's fun!
I like the "classic" hitting as I suck at the swing stick right now. I also love the commentating of the game as I'm so used to these two calling games.
So far, color me impressed. I REALLY want to play at Busch in the daytime to see the dynamic lighting. Graphics don't appear to be as good in this demo as I've watched on some of the HD videos, but I think it's that ugly park.
The pace of the game is perfect, imho. Overall - and this is only a 3 inning demo, it's better than I expected for the first year of Brinkman and 2k's plans to overhaul the game. Will DEFINITLY be picking up the retail version tomorrow.
Oh yeah, typical 2k presentation, which really immerses me into the game.
