At the moment I still use it on HOF level. I *like* using it, but I'll ditch it the moment it makes things too easy. On HOF you have to guess out of 8 zones, and the penalty for missing your guess is adequate enough for me right now. If this changes, I'll ditch it.
I can't use it on anything easier than HOF, though. Makes things far too easy.

When is the PS3 due out and when is MLB for the PS3 due?

I don't use "guess pitch" or the power swing either. In fact, I usually don't even use the analog stick when I'm batting, just the timing-only method, which is probably why I'm still finding the veteran level so realistically challenging when it comes to hitting.Leebo33 wrote:Do you guys use the guess pitch/location option while batting? I find it hard to stop using the guess pitch feature, but I rarely use the power swing either. Maybe if Pujols is up and I guess a meatball pitch, I'll use it to try for a HR, but for the most part I leave it alone.lexbur wrote:I don't use "guess pitch" or the power swing either. I'm thinking about turning off the K zone and H/C zones as I think it still allows the sound for a correct pitch type guess, but I think it turns off the little circle when guessing the location.
Don't really know for sure, but I've read that SCEA is working on the 2007 version for the ps3.JackB1 wrote:When is the PS3 due out and when is MLB for the PS3 due?

You guys know how I just pitched a no hitter last week with Jorge Sosa of the Braves. Well, his next outing started out well...giving up 1 run through 5. Then he got tired. Maybe it's because he pitched a complete game the last time he was pitching...or whatever. But in the 6th, he gave up back, to back, to back, to back, to a double off the wall...in a ROW. That's right...4 homers and a double off the top of the wall...to FLORIDA no less. I was up 4-1 at the time and ended up down 5-4. Freakin' amazing. I thought there was no way in hell they'd hit three, let alone four. I don't think I've ever seen that.
There is a thread over at OS about using the classic pitching style as opposed to the meter. I decided to give it a try last night. I play on All-Star with strike zone off and hot/cold zones off, and ball icon to fade.
I took the White Sox to Wrigley and started Garland. Boy, it is a different experience. I don't know if there is a rhyme or reason to this way of pitching. It was very difficult to hit spots and a majority of the time was not close to where I believed I was aiming.
Now this is not to say that I didn't enjoy it. I can appreciate the fact that you can't pinpoint where you are pitching the ball. I did think that maybe early it would be easier to hit a spot and as the pitcher got tired, losing some control, but it started right out as having problems. Don't know a whole lot about Garland, maybe he is a little wild. Anyways, they lit me up for 6 runs and 11 hits through 5 innings before I had to go to bed.
I can see using this on Veteran where I enjoy the hitting a little more. Maybe knocking down my hitting sliders and using this pitching method.
Does anyone else use this method instead of meter?
After playing quite a few exhibition games, my only real problem with the game is the advancement of runners with regards to singles. It is just too difficult to advance from 1st to 3rd and scoring from 2nd on a single. It is to station to station. I am going to try to knock down the arm strength slider. Just hope that it doesn't give up too many infield singles.
Lastly, Zambrano for the Cubs is nasty.

I tried the "classic" way of pitching and it's not much fun missing just about every pitch thrown. I've been trying to beef up the CPU hitting on veteran as I like the hitting on veteran as well, but using that meter is not the answer for me.
I think I'm going to start by bumping the CPU contact and power +1 and then go from there.

I'm playing my franchise on HOF level and its great. I'm getting frustrated however. I've been so damn busy the past week and a half that I've only played a game or two in my franchise. Between coaching HS baseball (which just started), work and the fact that our HS basketball team just made it to the Elite 8 in PA, I have had very little free time to play. Last night I went from work straight to baseball practice...then straight to our basketball playoff game (I keep the book for my buddy who is the head coach). I didn't get in until 11pm. I went online and tried to hook up with some buds for some GR Co Op but couldn't get in. I played a little single player action and then hit the rack. Tonight I should be able to get in a game or two. I'm 5-3 in my franchise. Interesting. I usually get 1-2 walks a game, but now that you mention it, I was getting more back when I started on All-Star. But, I don't know that that is the CPU throwing less balls. It could easily just be that more pitches are borderline, generating more swings. In fact, that's very likely. I definitely saw more obvious balls on All-Star than I do on HOF.AJColossal wrote:Web, do you still walk on that level? I've heard some say the cpu walks you less on HOF.
Strange, but I've heard others say the CPU hits less there too.

Got mine yesterday. Worst hat ever! Mine is just red with the Cardinals written in block letters across the front. Last year's wasn't so bad at least it had the 2 birds sitting on the bat. Two years ago they gave us real team logo hats...I don't know what happened to that.dbdynsty25 wrote:Anyone else get their hat yet? I got mine today and it pretty much stinks. I guess you get what you pay for...meaning not much. Oh well. Can't complain with FREE.

I got the free hat last year...cheap one just like this year I guess. Oh well, the game kicks assdbdynsty25 wrote:Anyone else get their hat yet? I got mine today and it pretty much stinks. I guess you get what you pay for...meaning not much. Oh well. Can't complain with FREE.

Are you guys seeing managers keep the CPU pitchers in the game for what seems like too long? It seems like the manager has a very long hook, particularly on midle relievers. I'm hoping it's different depending on the manager, because the game is so ridiculously good (I think it's much better than High Heat, which would make it the best baseball game ever made) that I'm hoping what I've been seeing isn't common.
well it is a newera cap, i guess they had to pick a less popular selling style, that way WE think were getting something for nothing and newera unloads stock that was collecting dust. I have yet to get mine but your right you can't complain. When i saw the picture i was thinking ok that's a little different, taking a break from logos.dbdynsty25 wrote:Anyone else get their hat yet? So far I've seen the opposite, Bill! The CPU pulls starting pitchers early in quite a few of my games. Relievers haven't been noticably off one way or the other for me.billharris44 wrote:Are you guys seeing managers keep the CPU pitchers in the game for what seems like too long? would a slider control something like that??? I still trying to figure out exactly what pitch count does. I have had it maxed and a call to the bullpen was not made until the 9th. I think the count at that point was in the high 80's-90'swebdanzer wrote:So far I've seen the opposite, Bill! The CPU pulls starting pitchers early in quite a few of my games. I don't know what's going on with my game, it feels out of whack all of a sudden. In my season I was cruising along at 8-8, getting realistic stats, but then all of a sudden I've lost 6 in a row. Last night the Red Sox beat me 17-1 and 12-5.
I don't get it. I'm playing on veteran but it feels like I'm playing on HOF or higher. The only thing I've adjusted since starting my season is bumping up the CPU power and contact 2 notches. I'm 1-6 since doing that. But I can't believe doing that would make such a huge difference.
Maybe this game is real streaky when you do a season. Or maybe there's some sort of built-in momentum thing that's really snowballling against me, like a "team morale/confidence rating" or something. I couldn't find anything.
Maybe it's just the teams I'm playing, half of Boston's lineup has that fire icon next to their names, but that's only been the last 3 games. Heck, I got swept by the Royals before Boston.
Anybody else who's doing a season come across some weird streaks like this all of a sudden?
