Kane off the cover due to the issue in Hamburg.
"In light of the ongoing investigation involving Patrick Kane, he will no longer be a spokesperson for the launch of EA Sports NHL '16.

"He will not appear on the EA Sports NHL 16 cover nor participate in other EA Sports NHL 16 promotional activities."

This has been fairly bigger news than I thought it would be. Listening to people like Mike & Mike and other local radio hosts who have no idea about video games has been priceless. Someone called it NHL Live yesterday and proclaimed it was one of EA Sports biggest sellers.

Really a no brainer move, the cover athlete doesn't move any sales it's more about the spots and appearances they do. They still have arguably the poster boy for being an upstanding guy in Towes. I know why it is news because of the investigation but I really didn't expect to see it on TV news last night.

Looks interesting to me. Be a Pro mode with shades of the old EASHL as you build up your player.

I cannot wait for NHL 16.. fired up NHL 15 and played a few games today. I know football is just around the corner.. but I'm more excited for hockey.

I might even make a trade to get Oshie back. :)

I hope the single player experience is worth a crap this year. Hopefully sliders have a bit more sensitivity to them.

With the AHL added back in, and this morale stuff, I'm hoping single player is worth playing too. If it is, I may spend my sober hours playing GM mode all winter, and my late night drunk ones as a Dragon trying to set up the greatest sniper in all the land, Zorba the Greek!

The beta has given me hope that the gameplay is maybe worth a damn, anyway......

How dare you soil Naples & 7's NHL personas by ranking XXXIV as the "sniper" of the Dragons!

Looks to be much more in depth, like it should have been last year.

I didn't really have to mess with sliders much/superstar - hardcore and a couple tweaks from there.

I hold little hope for this. EA's single-player game has been marred by the same flaws for the last few years, with no fixes. The CPU AI plays completely differently than the AI-controlled players on the human team on both ends of the ice.

Examples:

-- The AI-controlled players on human teams leave guys WIDE OPEN in the high and low slot incessantly, to the point where only two types of goals are scored by the CPU in this game -- one-timers from the low and high slot and slappers from the center point.

-- AI-controlled players on human teams sometimes don't go low on the opposite side of the end boards for a cycle, even when I have skated down into the corner or the half-boards with the puck. The AI-controlled players on the CPU team do that all the time.

I was a sucker through NHL 14, thinking EA would fix the AI flaws in the single-player game. But I was fooled far too many times and didn't buy NHL 15, waiting for EA Access instead. I will do the same for NHL 16, as EA seems to be putting more emphasis on online multiplayer, such as return of EASHL, which is smart.

But the single-player game probably will have the same infuriating warts as the last five years.

Ben Ross said somewhere that the AI in 16 will cycle this year. I hope he meant in single player as well as EASHL...... I beleive it's on the Ask EA site as a question.

As for AI leaving people wide open, only time will tell. I will say from playing the beta, that there are a LOT more sticks on pucks this year, so at the very least perhaps the AI defenders will be able to deflect pucks away more and make the easy one timers a thing of the past..... (fingers crossed)

Good to know. Early Access will tell the tale, as always ...

Sniper does make it sound more like crack than rum.... Jimmy, Vader and Diablo have been known to bury a few chances as well as Seven and Naples.

I am just there to sing and dance. :)

From the last night of the beta...With the big color balloons you see every player touch the puck and proof that with great puck movement that even I can score.

So, I give EA credit. The comments after every item they post on FB are fun to read, and fun to see what I must have been like as a teenager whining about every little thing about my favourite game.

#1 comment being that all they care about is HUT to make extra money, etc........

Then this happens:

Tim Checkthekillfeeds Etters-Carter I don't get why everyone continues to fall for the guise that the game is actually going to be good this year. Its happened every year since NHL 12, super hyped during the demo or beta and trailers and stuff like this then a week into release people re...See More

Well, it cut off a bunch of comments about HUT being the only thing, etc, then..... (the bolded part is what i've been saying for ages now)

View previous replies

EA SPORTS NHL We see the comments about HUT being the only mode we care about. When you guys get your hands on NHL 16 you'll see that the rest of the game received a huge amount of attention. If all we cared about was HUT, that's all the game would be. The response from the EASHL beta has been excellent. A lot of it coming from players that feel the same as you guys do. This is also why NHL 16 is a lot more of what you all expect in a hockey game. We listened to the community over the last year and built the game according to what was requested by the fans.

We know you want to make assumptions based on 15. We've been hearing it for a year now. It's time to move on. We listened and acted. You will see that we're headed in the right direction thanks to all of you. We will continue to listen and do our best to build the game around your feedback.

I hope they mean what they say, but I also think if negativity was electricity, places like operation sports could be a gold mine.....
