Leafs nation continue to suck whenever they play the Canucks although for whatever reason in me, I am hoping that they can make it to the playoffs this year.
I don't think trading picks for rental D-men makes sense when you have goaltending this terrible.
It's nice to get some big guys and a right-hand shot on the blue line, but they won't be able to make up for the Russian Circus in goal.
Flyers absolutely pounding Pavelec and the Jets with shots in the 3rd period...Pavelec is beyond unconcious. Ridiculous. He is winning the game single-handedly.

There is something about flyers-jets games this year. The 9-8 game in Philly, and both games in Winnipeg were high scoring rock-em sock-em hockey. Throw back baby.
Jeff Carter gets reunited with M. Richards as the Kings payed a hefty price trading J. Johnson and a 1st rounder for him. LA needs some offense badly and it remains to be seen if Carter is the right guy. i thought for sure that they would throw the kitchen sink in order to get R. Nash, but I gotta believe that maybe #61 didn't want to go to LA.
Helluva game between the top western teams as Canucks are battling the Wings. DET is of course riding an unbelievable unbeaten record at home (23) and so far both goalies are stealing the show. 1-1 after 40 minutes.

The Playboys reunited...in LA no doubt. Good luck with that one LA.
A thriller, gem of a game between VAN and DET. Always a pleasure for me to watch this match up as both teams show a lot of skills on the ice, there's mutual respect, there's no extra curricular bullsh!t after a whistle, both puck possession teams playing good old hockey, fast and furious.
Three times the home team took the lead, three times Canucks managed to tie it, the last goal with only 15 seconds left as they beat the Wings in a SO and break the unbelievable streak the Wings had going at home. Congrats on that Wingers. Both Howard and Luongo were outstanding, especially Jimmy but he fell a bit short in the skills event.
Hope both teams will meet eventually again in the playoffs round, that would be a beauty to watch.
The boys will travel now to Jersey where they'll play another hot team in the Devils, part of 5 games in 7 nights for VAN.

Great comeback/character building win for the Flyers last night in Calgary! Bryz had a rough start (as usual) but steadied the ship and looked good in the shootout. Loved the pad stacking save in the shootout!! My favorite player on the Flyers by far is WAYNE SIMMONDS. This guy has made me easily forget Mike Richards. He brings such great energy and hustle to the ice. He has kind of an awkward style at doing things but he also has great touch and ice presence. Plus he takes no s***. Love watching him play every shift.
With trade deadline less than 2 hours away, this particular day is becoming more boring than watching a Jersey or Bouchers' 1-3-1 tactic gameplan. In this age of salary cap, and an uncertain CBA looming, I doubt a big fish like R. Nash will be dealt today. With your regular 3rd and 4th line players being asked for the moon, most teams are standing pat. Having said that, I would be shocked if teams like SJ, CHI, WAS, DAL and TOR don't make any sound at the end of the day.
When guys like J. Oduya to CHI are worth a 2nd and 3rd round picks, P. Gaustad worth a 1st and 4th rounder to NAS, I am not surprised that guys like R. Nash did not get moved making this one of the dullest trading deadlines in NHL history. Watch out for NAS though, they did add some interesting pieces to their puzzle and they are the clear winners today. SJ added some depth but is it enough for a team that's been struggling?
My Nuckers added S. Pahlsson from COL who should provide more grit and playoff experience tot he team.
And perhaps on the most noteworthy trade of the day, VAN trade Cody Hodgson last minute who's having a remarkable rookie year to the Sabres for Zach Kassian who hasn't played much in the NHL this season but he's a bull in the AHL and will be noticed around by the opponents. With him around, should Canucks face BOS again in the finals, you can be sure that B. Marchand won't be slapping the Sedins silly this time around.
I'll miss Cody, he'll be a good fit in BUF who are not good at the face off circle. Hodgson is a talented guy.
No question the Preds made the most impressive moves today. Agree that it was a snoozer, but that was expected. Contenders are not going to give up any key pieces from their teams in a market where mediocre to above-average players are being overpaid. Nash IMO is overrated by Columbus and GMs do not want to take a chance on giving up too much for him. I guess they will wait until the offseason and see if they can get any suckers willing to give them what they want. Probably smart of Columbus to do so since they will have more teams in a position to make a better deal for Nash than what there is now. Van made a couple interesting trades today. The Kassian trade I would not have done, but perhaps they really think that Boston will make the finals. Hodgson was too much to give up for Kassian IMO.
The thing with Cody as I dissect the trade with Kassian is that he's a legit top 4 forward and with the depth that this team has, he was playing in the 3rd line, sometimes 4th with your typical grinders. And still, he put up some awesome numbers for VAN in his rookie year but the way VAN is built up, he wasn't going to be a second liner where he can easily fit in BUF. And based on what happened last year in the finals, obviously VAN didn't match up well in the physical department with the Bruins, so the addition of Kassian and Pahlsson should help in the grit department.
I am sure that 'Nucks nation will be divided in giving up Cody so soon, but personally I think he'll be better served in BUF to display all his potential than his limited 12-15 minutes that coach AV was giving him here in VAN city.
I am currently in Leafs land on business and of course the entire Hog city is talking about the firing of R. Wilson. While I don't fault him entirely over the demise of his team lately, it is obviously the urgency that B. Burke feels over his team this year to snatch the last playoffs spot in the East. If there was going to be a change, I thought Burke's action would wait at least until the summer.
I'm glad Voracek seems to be OK, but concussions often take a while to fully reveal themselves, and it was disgraceful how long it took the refs to blow the whistle after that hit. Memo to those clueless fucks: when a player gets smashed in the face with a shoulder pad, lands on his head and then his arms fly up involuntarily, that's a really bad sign.
Kronwall should be suspended for 10 games. That was a BLATANT head shot. No excuse.
I've said this to the point of asphyxiation, but the NFL has banned hits to the head, yet it remains a violent, physical game. Why can't the NHL follow suit?

You mean the league where the players actually hit the fans?
