Spose so, Rhymes - I can't read Spanish so have never browsed through Marca, but the point about the differences between the attitude of the press...our tabloids tend to go for the 'higher ground' of morality and behaviour, talking about role models and shite like that. They are, unfortunately, emblematic of the point made long ago by Lord Macauley
“There is no spectacle so ridiculous as the British public in one of its periodic fits of morality” - whether that's led by the tabs or a reaction to them, it still holds true.

I like the strikers at Bayern much better than Rooney. Now, if anyone has defenders that know what they are doing, let me know.I hope he does go to AC Milan. That'll make their investment in Ibrahimovich and Robinho look worthwhile. Or Bayern Munich.

About f***in time but Christian Purslow is finally gone. Asshole. Roy next, please. PLEASE.
I would like Rooney to go to City just to see Whisky Nose's head explode.
Dave,
You don't rate Onuoha? You would have seen him a hell of a lot more than me but I thought he was decent.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
So decent we sent him off to Sunderland on loan
Decent just about sums him up. Unfortunately, in the hierachy of marking, that doesn't get him into City's top 4 centre backs, and he was twining about wanting first team football...so now he's got it.
If we were to get Shrek, here's hoping it's after he's bought out the last year of his deal. I don't mind us getting bench cover for £5m, I do for £40m.
Amusing thought - if Shrek goes anywhere for 5m, that's still 2m cheaper than El Vagabundo. One of our work Reds (Irish, natch) was going on about Rooney going just for the dollars. My reply was somewhat along these lines.
Shrek - "What are we doing to strengthen the squad and really push Chelsea this time. City have spent loads of cash"
SAF - "<hic> we've spent 23m on new young talent to really get us going"
Shrek - "Who's that then ?"
SAF - "Oh, Chris Smalling, some Mexican called Hernandez who plays in the same position as you, and some Portuguese vagrant recommended by Carlos Queiroz's brother in law..who might also be his agent. Oh, and we've made a loss of £100m and the Glazers are sucking us dry. So, sign here Wayne."
Shrek - "Get to f***, la." (Checks mobile for Mourinho's number)

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
You would think that RM has learned that spending over 100 million and winning nothing last season, would be enough to stay away from Shrek. At this point I am not convinced that he's about to learn Spanish when he can't even speak English properly
, but I do see him in a Chelsea uni.

Dave- you forgot the great Michael Owen.

So I should expect Roy Hodgson to buy him then.davet010 wrote:So decent we sent him off to Sunderland on loan

The Guardian has billed Tottenham vs. Inter today as battle of giants, a test of Spurs' European credentials and also a 'battle' between 'Arry and my dad...er I mean Rafa.
Can't wait.
What, Inter are 4-0 up already?
Wonder how the media are going to handle this one.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
Not to fear, I've just heard that Harry had 10K on Inter winning. Phew.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
The FIFA press conference this afternoon about the allegations might be the best bit of comedy I've seen in some time. Blatter actually said to "trust them".

headline on ESPN soccernet - "Nani lifts the European gloom"...translation into a world with perspective "United are beating a load of Turkish no-marks 1-0 in front of 75,000 Irish and Southern mugs".
Here's some news for you Macca....Frank Rijkaard been given the Spanish Archer at his Turkish club...knows a bit more about winning stuff and big clubs than Woy...just sayin'.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
Hey guys,
I've been digging the Bundesliga coverage on ESPN3.com this season. I'm curious if anyone knows the name of the commentator who does majority of the matches that are streamed? I really like his style... very laid back, very educational, very low profile, yet witty sense of humor. A few weeks back the camera guy zoomed in on a man in the crowd who had one very wandering eye... After an awkward moment of silence, this guys says "This man is keeping a very close eye on both clubs tonight"
Anyone know what this guys name is?

Some more utter comedyfsquid wrote:The FIFA press conference this afternoon about the allegations might be the best bit of comedy I've seen in some time. Blatter actually said to "trust them".
He added: "I was a little bit surprised that you say is FIFA corrupt? FIFA is actually in the world of sport a well-recognised organisation and institution and if there are some activities that are against the ethics and the morals that's why the ethics committee came in."
Sepp, you are the most brazen lier in the world of sports. FIFA is rotten from the head down and the arse up.
Want to get rid of corruption in FIFA ?
Load pistol > insert pistol barrel into your own mouth > pull trigger. I'm sure Platini or someone will do it, once he's finished wiping your arse.
Job done.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
I wonder too. Well, it's 4-1 now but Inter could have easily stretch that score too. Not being able to watch a soccer game in HD now pains my eyes, so I switched to the Barca game.Macca00 wrote: The Guardian has billed Tottenham vs. Inter today as battle of giants, a test of Spurs' European credentials and also a 'battle' between 'Arry and my dad...er I mean Rafa.

Wow. Hell of a comeback by Spurs.

Crazy finish, when it all seemed lost for them. Inter's passing towards their third goal was a thing of beauty.RobVarak wrote:Wow. Hell of a comeback by Spurs.
Copenhagen definitely had their chances to convert as Barca's D looked shaky at times. Messi didn't miss his chances. The difference.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
Copenhagen look like a pretty good team to me. Could have scraped a draw with a bit more luck. Great strike by Messi for the first goal. I'd like to have another look at Copenhagen in the return match to see how they approach a home game against Barca, which in some ways I guess is a bit trickier.10spro wrote: Copenhagen definitely had their chances to convert as Barca's D looked shaky at times. Seen at Old Trafford today: A banner reading "Who's the whore now, Wayne?" LMAO
Awfully witty for the prawn-eaters. Probably a MUFC supporter who snuck in.

Macca's dad is Rafa ? i knew it, thats probably where he learned his tactics watchin a 6 yr old Lavan and the pigpen like crowd of players in the center circle and 2 goalies one on each end...wait the ball squirts out to Torres 1 nil.

Yeah - just a shame that it's the league stages, so irrelevant as they still got no points. Inter's keeper needs to learn about angles as well.JRod wrote:You mean by Gareth Bale!RobVarak wrote:Wow. Hell of a comeback by Spurs.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread 10/11
After a lifeless draw with Napoli that saw exactly 2 meaningful chances, Roy Hodgson aka "Dr. Happy" had this to say:
At this point I'm getting increasingly curious. I'd like Roy's take on some great historical disasters, most of which he'd say I'm clearly wrong about.
WWI? Massive slaughter that I foolishly thought turned Europe into history's largest charnel house and decimated a generation of Englishmen. Turns out, according to the Happy Gaffer(TM) that it was a lovely couple of years that gave the boys a chance to see Europe and really soak up Continental culture.
Hindenburg? Sure it looked like an aviation cataclysm, but turns out that Roy says that after all it is the most famous dirigible in history.
I could do this all day. There's really no end to popular misunderstanding.
Well they certainly deserved to score no goals, but anyone satisfied with that abomination would have be classified as quite mad."Tonight we have to be satisfied with a good result after a good performance and I think we deserved it."
