Zep, I pulled this from a post I made in last week's race thread and should probably have made here instead:

"Sometimes accelerating out of a corner the car would hit the rev limiter three or four times before it'd think of changing up a gear, which was a bit of an irritance, and if I locked a wheel under braking it'd either complete all of its downshifts at once or else put me a gear lower than I wanted to be, neither of which are any good at all for entry and mid-corner stability, or indeed for going at the right speed. I guess the downchange is connected to wheel speed or something, but I don't know."

That was from testing the auto box the night after we raced, having not used it before. I tested it on a front-wheel drive car, but if the box behaved the same in a rear-wheel drive car it'd probably lock the rears, which would produce entry oversteer of the kind you're describing.

Simbin/Atari have posted the change log for the Race Pro patch:

http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/sh ... p?t=669432
Latest Update - Planned Fixes for Race Pro
Since the launch of RACE Pro, Atari and development team Simbin have been working hard to deliver a Title Update. We will make the update available in the coming weeks once it has been finalised, thoroughly tested and approved.

Below is a list of the main issues that the Title Update will address to improve the experience both in single and multiplayer online. As soon as we have any more precise information about the release date of the update we will let you know.

MULTIPLAYER UPDATE
- Fixed bug causing the game to crash when 12 players have joined and left a multiplayer game
- Disallow connections to host if they are not waiting for players.
- Fixed the ”fast forward” / speed bug currently generating some unrealistic race times in leaderboards.
- Fixed problem with lap times being reported to the wrong leaderboard when moving on to the next track in multiplayer.
- Fixed problem of a player joining during session activation causing the client to get stuck in the loading screen.
- Fixed issue when creating a session with downloaded car and inviting a player that doesn’t have the car
- Fixed name of tracks on servers list when players do several sessions in a row
- Fixed incorrect race length value seen in game list screen
- Fixed transparent car that appears after un-pausing in multiplayer qualification
- Fixed the incorrect message that appears when attempting to access multiplayer without a gamer profile signed–in and if selecting Multiplayer with an offline gamer profile
- Set default host option of qualification to NO in multiplayer for players that have never hosted a game in Race Pro before
- New messages: Display some session info in-game so players can recognize where in the game they are
- New messages: Add a specific multiplayer loading tip showing 50% of loading time in player match only.

GENERAL UPDATE
- Fixed performance drop while driving over curb
- Improved deformation of cars
- Fixed hot seat start position problems
- Removed dangerous driving dialogues when entering loading screen
- Fixed crash when the player tries to enter the end pit driving backwards and wants to restart the race after the losing message
- Fixed some localization bugs
- Locked F3000 car #12 and unlocked the Corvette C5R since there is no contract for it in Career mode
- Fixed validation for replay files to allow replay files saved between year 2000 and 2099
- Fixed sound bug making Doppler effect of other cars sound corrupt in swing cam
- Fixed force feedback detection for wheels and slightly improved strength of force
- Adjusted the Seat Leon Extreme Tryout time
- Fixed sound bug making the rev sounds on some cars not transition smoothly (including Mini Cooper and BMW M3 GTR)
- Fixed sound bug with the force calculation of picking the correct collision sound

I wish one fix they would have would be to remove the fact that all players in multiplayer must have the cars unlocked that the host wants to play. This would allow new players, or people like me who are behind the curve, to play any car the host has unlocked. Unless this has changed already? I remember asking someone about this one night and they say this is the way it works.

As for manual gearing, I tried to do my Class C Formula BMW career today since I was home sick, and kept having troubles with oversteer on acceleration. Well, I decided to try manual gear box, and man, what a difference!

I think it makes me focus more or something, because I found my driving to be smoother. The other thing I have noticed is that I play with corner gear markers on. But they dont' seem to adjust to your car. On Brands for examply, I took corners at least one gear higher then was suggested, and flew around the track.

On a funny note, I finished the BMW career, and am at the first stand in race with the Caterham on Brands. Wow, it handles slightly different then a Formula BMW ;)

Race Pro patch may be out this month. Appears that the changelog is the same as what was posted above which is to be expected. I actually stopped playing the game weeks ago and decided to wait on the patch before I finished my review. Just an overall frustrating game, so close in many ways to what we have been wishing for in a true console sim with good online options for leagues, etc. but yet still so far far away. There was originally talk of a lot of DLC for this game including tracks and car packs, but I am assuming that is on hold until the patch comes out.

From www.virtualr.com
RACE Pro - Patch Coming This Month

Some weeks ago, Atari & Simbin announced a patch for their recently-released RACE Pro console racing simulation, fixing various issues with the title.

Now, the Swedish developer has announced that the patch has been submitted to Microsoft for testing and approval. If everything goes as planned, the patch for the Xbox 360 title will be released this month.

Glad they are still releasing a patch. I wonder if the DLC plans will be shelved, the US sales have been absolutely terrible. Hopefully it is doing better in Europe.

I'm still really enjoying the game, but I haven't had much luck progressing through the career mode lately. Fortunately I don't mind racing the CPU since online was a barren wasteland the last time I checked.

According to users on the Atari UK Race Pro forums, it appears the patch is out. Nothing has been released officially by Atari, but virtualr.net was also reporting it would be out today. So far, the patch seems to be getting mixed reviews, some stating that the FFB is still not fixed, and that there are still crashing, disconnects in online, etc. A few threads with varying degrees of reliable info on this have opened up. I am really hoping that this patch does fix my FFB and online issues so that I can actually give this game an honest trial.

Obviously I will need to see how this all works out for me, but based on the posts below, it is not looking good for those of us with MS wheels who could not get FFB no matter what kind of workarounds or tricks we tried.
patch update FFB ver2.0 wheel

after downloading the patch i immediatley tried the wireless wheel (ver 2.0)only to find that on controller 1 i had FFB but no vibration? So i did the work around and set it up on controller 2. Now i have excelllent FFB and vibration, even improved lap times slightly plus i have noticed the game runs a lot smoother than before???

I have spoken to Atari this morning about the wheel issue and they informed me that they will pass my comments on to Simbin ASAP, he also advised me that Simbin were a pain to get hold of so we'll just have to wait.

Any boady else have the same issues??
A few others said they had to do the workaround, a few didnt. Luck of the draw really.

* FFB fixed?

Not for me, unfortunately. No change, other than the wheel now sounds like a sedated bee. I find the vibration to be a detriment, not an improvement.

That's with the MS wheel. I'm comparing to Forza 2, not the PC. I don't expect it to be as good as the PC.
DriveFX now has vibration/"FF", Microsoft wheel still requires the two controller deal in some cases, in others excellent FFB has been reported.
* FFB fixed - no more of this using controller2 nonesense, and the feedback is better than any game out there in my opinion, you can even feel when the tires are scrubbing.
i already had good ffb, so is it better than before?...it sounds a similar situation to before the patch , where some have good ffb, some have weak ffb, some can only get ffb with the controller 2 fix, and some can't get any no matter what they do.

Atari/Simbin have just released the first DLC for Race Pro. Does not sound like it is worth 800 points. Supposedly, there was another patch released as well, but it has not been confirmed as to whether this was just to accomodate the DLC, or if it was actually fixing anything.
RACE Pro Pack 1 Downloadable Content is now available as of today for your game. The Pack costs 800 Microsoft Points and contains 8 new cars with 40 skins and 3 tracks.

DLC size is 1.57Gb.

Cars:

'08 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Production
'08 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Race
'08 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee Production
'08 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee Race
'09 Cadillac CTS-V Production
'09 Cadillac CTS-V Race
'09 Chevrolet Camaro Production
'09 Chevrolet Camaro Race

Tracks:

Imola (GP Circuit)
Road America Alteranate Layout I (Motorcycle Circuit)
Road America Alternate Layout II (Short Circuit)

Hmm, definitely not enough to get 800 points out of my account.

I still enjoy playing this game in the single-player mode--the highest difficulty is just a bit too hard for me, I wish there was a way to slightly modify the AI difficulty instead of the whole-scale level changes.

Is there much of an online community still playing? The US sales sucked, so I'm guessing it is fairly desolate at night.

I'll be getting the DLC. I'll give some impressions once I've dl it. With Fuel coming out in a couple days it may take me while though since I will be playing the heck out of Fuel.

Post some impressions of Fuel if you get a chance. I don't know what to think of that one and the reviews haven't exactly been glowing...but it is strange to have such a small amount of interest in a Codies title.

Some sites have given Fuel good scores and others not so good. I think Edge magazine gives it a 8/10, for example, while Eurogamer gives it a 5. I've been watching a lot of live video of it on Justin.tv from people who got the game early. It looks like it's a lot of fun and up my alley. It seems like some people are expecting more of a sim, thus the disappointment since this is just a massive arcade driving game. I'll be sure to throw up some impressions once I play it several hours.

Two new DLC packs have been made available for Race Pro according to Virtualr.net.

There are two new tracks per pack, along with new cars, etc. Spa and Mid Ohio are good additions, but this all seems like too little too late.

Anyone still even have Race Pro?

RACE Pro - Third Download Pack Available
Posted 1 hour, 53 minutes ago in Console - 7 Comments

Following yesterday’s RACE Pro DLC pack, Simbin has released even more content for their Xbox 360 racing title today.

The third download pack includes two new tracks as Estoril and Okayama are added to the simulation. The pack also brings new cars as the International Formula Master series and the 2008 WTCC season are included.

That means the pack pretty much includes the same content that will be coming to the PC with RACE On minus the muscle cars and the already available US tracks.

Content:

Okayama
Estroil

WTCC 2008 (Lada 110/Volvo C30 models)
International Formula Master

The pack can be download for 560 Microsoft points, follow this link for more info and download. Below is a preview video of the new content, showing the IFM car at Estoril and the Seat Leon TDI at Okayama.

I'll have to check this out! The IFM cars should be a hoot to drive... and oh to have Estoril! I still like Race Pro, but I don't race online with it anymore. I'm mostly in the way of the stalwarts that still race online with it

I still have it, but as much as I'd love the new tracks, especially Spa, I just can't see myself spending the MS pts for the content, as I just don't play it much at all. I'd love to do more longer races, or even quick poker-night style, but there doesn't seem to be that critical mass here we'd need to make it a fun night.

Maybe we can get some racing going on Monday? Football season is fast approaching, which means no gaming for me Monday nights!

For me its the fact that everyone needs the same cars unlocked..... It doens't make sense to me that I couldn't participate in a F3000 race for example with you guys becuse I haven't gotten that far yet.

That being said, I have the game, but haven't played in a while.... I'm stuck somewhere in the middle I think, in the GT cars.

That has to be about the stupidest design decision anyone could make for a game like this. "Thanks for buying our game! Now remember, you can't actually play any of it unless you grind through the frustration of the treadmill, but thanks for buying it!" To take a game with a margnal market at best, and then to put huge barriers in the way of your cusgomers' enjoyment of it, especially for private, unranked games, is just shootn yourself in the foot.

I remember ToCA2 had the same dumb system, but they patched it really quickly to let everyone who bought the game ave a chance to enjoy it. I'm surprised these fools haven done the same. Instead, they release late, overpriced DLC.

Actually, it begs the question, if I were t buy the DLC, would I be allowe to drive any of the new cars?

I'm glad I kept this game. I've started a career and with the combination of both the AI, car physics and controls it makes for some interesting races. I looked back at some of the comments about the DLC. I was thinking about that the other day but it's still priced too high and the game is not graphically appealing.

RacePro is the only reason I still have my 360. I have all the DLC courses and love them to death. It's really a fun game even though the graphics may not hold up to the likes of GT5. I came close to breaking it out this weekend for a long session, but got sidetracked by other things. It would be nice if a RacePro 2 came out with all the bells and whistles as opposed to being so barebones.
