This is my biggest gripe about this game. Like i posted early on in this thread, the defenders want to jog with you instead of tackle you. Sometimes it's ridiculous. I think I posted this example before but when I had the cpu WR catch a ball and had one defender to beat on my team, I didn't take control of the defender and wanted to see what the cpu would do. The cpu CB basically jogged along side the receiver for 25-30 yards before TRYING if you call it TRYING to make a tackle.
I still like the game since I just take control of the defenders. I'm sure the ps2 version is solid, and create a school is always a good thing in that version.

OMG that was funny!!
That guy cracked me up. He was so irritated but so hilarious in the way he was complaining.
The NCAA Tecmo Bowl video is just embarassing. Nice pursuit angles.
Wow. I just went with the PS2 version because of the overhead camera and working sliders. I had no idea their was these kinds of problems. The defense looks like a school of fish.
I'm thinking about picking up the PS2 version myself. Jack, any problems that you're seeing with it?
None yet. I think it's better than 04. Rent it and give a try. I am really enjoying it.
JD,
I haven't played it so cannot comment. It's just been a long time coming finding a football game has been as good as NCAA 2004 on the PS2. It's my all-time favorite football game.

Well, the very first post in that thread talks about "rampant int's and fumbles".

On that note, the person that made that post gave the game a 10. Like I said brother, opinions vary. I loved 04 and this game seems better too me. Tighter gameplay and much better animations. I haven't seen rampant int's in the 30+ games I've played. I think that's because the sliders work.
I have thrown some very stupid passes that got picked and the cpu has done the same when pressured. The computer AI will try to force fumbles if your runner doesn't cover the ball with both hands while being tackled. Seem's pretty realistic too me.
Give it a rent and let me know what ya think. So far I am digging on it.
Anyone happen to know if the PS2 version has progressive-scan support? Hate to ask, but it is not documented anywhere and "checking the back of the box" doesn't help, b/c there are many PS2 games that support progressive scan that don't bother to put it on the box.
I've been playing versions of NCAA on the PSP (a bug-free NCAA 07) and the old XBOX for the past week or so. It'd be great if the PS2 version can be used on my HD set. Thanks!
I had an AWESOME game against LSU last night. LSU came in ranked #4, while Auburn was ranked #22. I had just lost a heartbreaker to Miss. State. It was raining, and on paper, I didn't have a chance.
I kickoff, and shut LSU down. They go for it on 4th and short, and I stop them. Get the ball, begin driving downfield, and score on a scamper by Tate from about 20 yards out. 7-0.
LSU gets the ball, drives downfield, and looks to be heading in for the score. But my Tiger defense stifles them in the red zone. Field goal. 7-3.
Toward the end of the 1st half, I drive downfield some, having success with mixing up the running game with PA passing. My QB rolls right on playaction, sees a window, and pushes into the end zone from 35 yards out. 14-3. I'm hearing 'OVERRATED! OVERRATED!' from the Auburn student section.
With just over a minute left in the half, LSU gets the ball, and proceeds to run the kickoff back to the near 50 yard line. Gets around 20 yards on a couple of pass plays, and kicks another FG at halftime. 14-6.
Okay. Now things get interesting. Beginning of the second half, Auburn kicks off to LSU. 98 yard kickoff return-touchdown, LSU. I'm thinking 'uh-oh'. 14-12. They try for two. Sack. Score remains 14-12.
Auburn gets the ball and is intercepted on a boneheaded pass by yours truly. LSU ball. They drive to the 35 and kick a long FG. 15-14, LSU.
Auburn receives the kickoff and returns it to the 42 yard line. It is now in the late stages of the 4th quarter. Some really good dive plays by my RB and FB, a couple of PA passes, and a 3 yard QB keeper, and it's touchdown, Auburn, with less than 2 minutes to play. 20-15. I go for two, and get it-22-15, Auburn.
Kickoff to LSU. LSU gets the ball, and almost breaks it to the house. I manage a last ditch open-field tackle at the Auburn 45. 2 short passes for 1st down by LSU, a couple of short runs. 3rd and short. I get into short zone coverage, tell my linemen to pinch, bring up my DB's...and a perfectly executed PA pass into the end zone with 6 seconds to play. Score tied 22-22.
I've already conceded overtime. Six seconds left. LSU kicks off. Tate receives the kick, gets a couple of great blocks, and the next thing I know..he's off to the races. No time on the clock, and Tate arrives in the endzone, the commentators are going nuts, the crowd is going nuts, and I'm going nuts! Game over-Auburn 29-LSU 22.
Great story, Teal. I've had a fun start to dynasty season 2 as Penn State. I love the ability to change the schedule. I ended up adding Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers, and Cincinnatti and removing a scrub team, Temple, Army, etc. I started with Syracuse at home and taking my foot off the gas too early (mass second string substitution late in the 3rd) almost came back to bite me as I only won 28-21. Then I had a huge comeback at Pitt that ended up being my #1 instant classic. My QB was cold after an early pick and lost fumble but I was patient and with runs and short passes I was able to come back and win. In the interest of full disclosure my last second win was greatly aided by the CPU taking a timeout *before* punting on 4th and 9 with 45 seconds left. I was suprised because *I* was desparately trying to call timeout so I'm not sure if the bug is taking a CPU timeout incorrectly when I called it or bad AI having the CPU take a timeout before punting (they were on about their own 35).
On near-default AA with QB accuracy at 45 I really don't have a problem with the CPU QB and square ins. They usually complete 60-70% of the passes but it is a good assortment of all patterns (usually deep 1 or 2 times per game). I will mix it up playing sometimes as a DE, LB in zone coverage, or safety. I almost always do some sort of defensive audible, but nothing is "money." Now that Derrick Williams graduated I toned down the punt return house rule and just make myself run within a few yards of the hashmarks.
My sole remaining nagging issue is the CPU slider foul-up. I would love to allow the CPU to rush against me (held McCoy to 62 yards and a 2.9 ave and gave up just a handful of runs over 10 yards in probably 25 games against CPU) without making my runners super human. It's a little too easy to run with my RBs as is and any boost makes them unstoppable.
Is everyone still playing on AA or is Heisman the way to go?
I enjoyed year 1 of my IU dynasty and went through off season and got some good recruits (just using recruiting assist on and setting my preferences). One of them a freshman half back with 99 speed and a 93 acc rating (72 OVR). I also recruited a lot of speed receivers.
Well after playing game one against Kentucky I am hoping the rest of the season doesn't unfold like this. Because my HB was pretty much unstoppable, he ran around everyone and my fast receivers got open at will. I loaded my schedule in season 2 with a ton of ranked teams so we'll see how it goes, but speed definitely makes this game a lot less enjoyable. I never felt like I was in trouble because my guys could outrun KU at will.

No prog scan support. Not listed as an option, nor does the "hold x and triangle" trick work, either.
No EA football games have had it for PS2.
I use a different picture setting on my TV for non-prog scan PS2 games to clean up the picture a bit.
As far as the gameplay of the PS2 version; it's the best of all of the versions of the last-gen. It toned down the kick blocks and returns from last year and the pursuit angles are better. The control of the players is as fast and fluid as I've ever had in a game.
There is a complete FBS roster already done, rosters from the past 3 seasons have been converted to work on 09,as well as historic rosters and a partial FCS set.

I wouldn't doubt the ps2 version plays better. If I didn't suck so much at the next gen version and always kept weaker cpu opponents in the game, I probably would pick that one up.
I picked this up while I was on vacation a few weeks ago, and I've been playing at my brother-in-law's house since then. It's a tradition and he basically only plays NCAA. Otherwise I would've launched this stinker back into the nether reaches of the nearest Gamestop storeroom.
Are we really debating whether or not this game is acceptable? 14 pages? It's the most open and shut case of a flat-out failure that I've seen in quite awhile.
Too many good games out to waste time on this thing. Blessings to those of you who love it enough to pay Dynasties etc., but I must have a very different threshold of what I'm willing to put up with in a sports game.

Just as a side note, according to the EGM review of Madden 09, the ghost juke/out-of-bounds thing is in there too. Curious considering the official line has always been that NCAA and Madden use completely separate engines.

I really haven't seen that out of bounds bug in my games. But I'm probably not going to get Madden anyway since I don't expect much from it. NCAA is a fun game but yes buggy as hell and unfinished. Is Madden going to go the same route?
Just started a fourth season with a fourth team. Western Michigan, as I want to eventually win a title with a 1 star team on AA.
Went into Nebraska and came out with a 13-3 win. This was with 7 minute qtrs. So a low scoring game can be achieved.
Its just good fun to play with different strength teams and see the differences. Ive played with Mich st, Tenn, Oklahoma and now W Mich and each is a very different experience.
I know its buggy and unfinished and all that stuff but.....
I love this f***ed up game.

Same here. I just like to sometimes do play now and let the cpu pick random teams for me.
JD,
I'll give it a rent this weekend and get back to ya on it. You've got me all giddy just thinking about a game that rivals the likes of NCAA 2004. I'm no graphics whore so playing it on my PS3 will be of no concern.
I don't mind the 360 version of the game at all, but I wouldn't say I'm enjoying as much as I did 2004.
