And Tennessee gave up 50 to KU, 41 to Alabama, and 45 to Cal. Unless you want to count games against Kent State and Western Carolina, 4 teams had their highest scoring games against Tennessee. So we've established that Tennessee's defense is not good. What does that have to do with Kansas?bdunn13 wrote:Florida also put up 59 on UT, a team in the SEC championship.

I think that the depth of the SEC puts those teams at a disadvantage in a BCS system. Since the SEC has more depth than other conferences, there are more opportunities for those teams to lose than say, a team in the Big 12 North or other conferences with a weaker middle and bottom.Leebo33 wrote: Nobody doubts that the SEC has serious depth and it's fairly reflected in the BCS standings. The SEC has 2 of the 3 highest ranked 2 loss teams, the highest 2 3 loss teams, and the only rated 4 loss team. A one loss LSU or FLA should absolutely be ranked higher than almost every other team in the country. But I think that non-conference and bowl history has shown that SEC out-of-conference games are generally very competitive. So I'm not buying the fact that they system is broken just because a one loss West Virginia probably ends up in the title game. We're only a couple seasons away from West Virginia beating a 3 loss SEC team.
If I was betting on the games I'd certainly lean towards the SEC. But when someone says that Florida could put up 60 on Kansas (a team that gave up more than 28 points twice and a high of 39), you are basically saying that Kansas is worse than Troy, Western Kentucky, and Florida Atlantic. That I don't get.
Of course, a simple playoff w/conference champs would change everything. Even a six team playoff (top 6 ranked conference champs, 1 and 2 seeds get byes to the semis) would work.
BTW, I don't think Florida would always put 60 on Kansas. 40-45 is a more realistic average.

I agree about the SEC's depth, but I must admit a bias, too. In 1987, Syracuse finished 11-0 and was that year's Mizzou. A team that came from nowhere into the national title picture, with Don MacPherson at quarterback and Dick McPherson as coach.bkrich83 wrote:SEC is the deepest conference. No doubt. But the theory that they are so far ahead of the other conferences is outdated. Maybe 4 or 5 years ago, that was the case, but not any more.
SU played Auburn in the Sugar Bowl that season, with a chance at 12-0 and an outside shot at a national title. Most of the talk nationally and from Alabama media before the game centered on how the SEC powerhouse would teach the upstart Northeastern school a lesson in football.
Instead, Auburn scored late to pull to within 14-13, and Pat Dye elected to go for a tie instead of going for two for a victory.
Everyone in Syracuse to this day insists that "Tie" Dye went for the tie instead of the victory because there would have been incredible shame in Auburn if an SEC team lost to one of them "damn Yankee programs that don't know a damn thing about football."
It was a pansy-ass move that will live in infamy forever in Syracuse, and I've disliked the SEC ever since.
Take care,
PK

In that game, Auburn was down 16-13 with four seconds left and the ball on the 13 yard line. They decided to go for the tie with four seconds left instead of going for the touchdown. Since they were on the 13 yard line, I agree with that move, although he was unpopular both in Syracuse and Auburn for it. I definitely don't see how this was a "pansy-ass"...maybe if the ball was at the 2-yard line...but at the 13, I think he has to kick the field goal.

Thanks for the correction. And it's still a sore spot in the 'Cuse!

I love watching SEC games. Outside of watching the Pac 10, I think they are the most exciting games to watch. My biggest issue is say after USC wins the National Title in 2004, SEC fans saying things like USC wouldn't have that kind of success if they played in the SEC, etc.pk500 wrote:I agree about the SEC's depth, but I must admit a bias, too. Love the teams, the tradition and the environments of SEC games, hate SEC fan, who think the sun rises and sets on that conference.

Wanted to beat PK to the punch - Greg Robinson gets a fourth year at Syracuse!

Loved the stats and quotes in the article. The AP writer is completely incredulous, pointing out just how horrible Robinson has been and just how pathetic the program looks by bringing him back.
Man, only Notre Dame looks sillier than Syracuse right now. But if Robinson gets an extension then the race for laughingstock might be a tie.

Big East really wanted WVU in that title game didn't they. Ref missed so many calls that I am surprised they didn't screw pitt at the end there.
WVU and MIZZU, well, they showed today they aren't ready for the spotlight of being the top 2 teams in the nation. You could tell, especially wvu, they were so tight and couldn't handle the pressure. WVU should have won by at least 10 points tonight, but they weren't ready for primetime.

Sorry Georgia fans...but I really see this being OSU v. LSU in the title game. I think they're gonna get a jump in the polls and computers to jump ahead of Georgia and slide into that #2 spot. Gotta love the BCS....
And those refs in the WVa game....I don't know if I've ever seen a game with a sequence of plays that were that biased. It would have been dreadful if WVa won after those calls.

Id like to see that.
Would give OSU a shot at redemption for last year and the rest of us a shot to watch tressels sweater get crushed again.
1. The refs in the WV game were awful.Jared wrote:Sorry Georgia fans...but I really see this being OSU v. LSU in the title game. I think they're gonna get a jump in the polls and computers to jump ahead of Georgia and slide into that #2 spot. Gotta love the BCS....

2. I think I am the only Georgia fan here so I would assume you are talking to me.
3. I have no idea if Georgia deserves it or not but we surely have a case. We are no question the hottest team in the country.. but I don't think we are the best... We are way too young. Either way its been a great year for Georgia. We were predicted to finish 3rd or 4th in the SEC east and we shared the east title with UT.
I just asked my wife if Mark Richt would call a press conference in the morning and politic like Meyer did last year and like More Kilometers has been doing for a week.
One thing is I am sure we can all agree its sad to see the regular NCAA Football season wrapping up.
